Panasonic WV-LZ81/6A lens RE-USED with a WV-CP504 Camera

Recommended Posts

If you have a used Panasonic Security Camera Lens, such as the WV-LZ81/6A, and find that it is not listed to work with the Panasonic Security Camera that you have at hand. Do not despair.

Assuming that the lens mount on the Panasonic Security Camera and the "non- recommended" Panasonic Security Lens do actually let you attach the lens to the camera:

You'll likely notice that the small square lens's IRIS mating connector will also connect to the Panasonic Security Camera body's mating connector.

However, when you power up the Panasonic Security Camera you'll probably find that the IRIS doesn't open or function.

I may have a solution to this problem for you.(?)

This was my dilemma/situation:

I had a new Panasonic WV-CP504 Camera and a used Panasonic WV-LZ81/6A Lens.

The Panasonic WV-LZ81/6A lens is not recommended for use with the Panasonic WV-CP504 Camera.

The lens will screw onto the Panasonic WV-CP504 Camera and the small square IRIS connector will connect to the camera's IRIS connector, but the IRIS failed to function.

The fix is extremely easy---:

1 Remove the top half of the Panasonic WV-LZ81/6A lens's plastic case.

2 Trace the cable from the lens' small square IRIS connector to the inside of the open case area of the lens-----you'll find that there are 4 colored wires.

3 Locate the "Brown" and "Red" wires.

For the sake of thoroughness, notice that there are also two other wires ("Yellow" and "Orange") as a part of the IRIS cable.

CAREFULLY : Solder one lead of a 470 ohm 1/4 watt resistor to the "Red" wire ---

Then solder the remaining lead of the resistor to the "Brown" wire ---

Bench test to assure the IRIS now works and then reassemble the lens top cover back onto the body of the lens.

Disclaimer: This has only been tested and verified using the mismatched combination of Panasonic Security Camera and Panasonic Security Lens listed above.

Good Luck
