I am considering this as a top choice for monitoring who is at the front door. What is everybody's thoughts any other suggestions?

That is a very old Hikvision model (discontinued). Forget about it, unless you get it almost for free.

Hikvision camera is a good choice but true as MindTwist said, old tech,

I would suggest something like this: http://www.oneclicksystems.com/item.asp?m=DS-2CD7153-E with 4mm lens, mini-dome compact anti-vandal IP66 design and good price for home performance, but you would need extra light source at night, the recording can be done by PoE NVR or MS Windows 7 personal computer with PoE/DC12V power supply for the camera.
