Need help after power cut (qvis dvr)

My inlaws have had cctv put in about 6 months ago at their business and I have been looking after it for them. About 1 week age they had a power cut and now all sorts of problems are happening, and i dont have the know how to solve it. We are trying to avoid the company the installed it if possible because there call out fees are ridiculous.

 

I didnt install the system but will tell you all that I can. The DVR is a qvis, the manual is for atlantis/zeus icloud models but the unit itself has nothing to say which it actually is. Its a stand alone system with no PC at the premises. I dont no if it has battery backup or not, it is connected straight to mains socket, but there is also a metal lock box with a PSU which I believe powers the cameras? It is mounted high on a wall and i dont have a ladder to see inside it or to see if there are seperate power/video cables to the cameras, but I assume that is what its for as everything else is plugged into mains.

After the power cut I had to restart the router, which kept all the settings exactly as they were and it is working fine, internet access and everything are fine as expected. The DVR came back on but when I turned the monitor on there was no picture. I thought I would go into settings over IP connection to see if it had reset something but router wont pick up the ethernet connection. Checking the manual the default IP and subnet are in the range of the router, so even if it had reset it would connect to it right? Do I need to turn off the router and DVR and turn the DVR back on before the router?

 

I thought maybe it had reset the resolution to something outside the range of the monitor so took a tv down and tried with the DVI cable, HDMI, and VGA with no picture. There is also another v-out socket, same style as the camera cables but I dont have a cable to test this output.

 

Can somebody please give me any advice? They are on holiday soon and want to be able to view their cctv while away. Thanks.

Hi be the same as a Dauha . Power down dvr and hold enter on panel when start up.

 

Does the shop have a wifi router ?

Unit might of gone back to its IP default and you don't need port forwarding if you can test via pad or phone

Thanks for the advise tom, i will try the power up you mentioned tomorrow when i am there and report back. The router is WiFi yes, however i am pretty certain that the DVR isn't. I never recall seeing it in the menu or the manual. The one i linked above is exactly the same with all the other specs though so i could be mistaken. The default IP settings are in the range of the router though so i don't see why it isn't picking it up.

 

If the dvr has WiFi, how can i connect it to the router without being able to access the settings though?

Hi. Not many installers add the wifi to the dvr .. So you are looking for a network cable from dvr to router.

 

Do you know if the cloud side was set up

Originally it was set up to use qvis cloud, but a few weeks after the website went down and never came back online so i set up port forwarding and have been connecting to it in internet explorer with the Netsurveillance activex. I read that QVIS dropped iCloud and replaced it with CLOUD on newer DVR's, and that the old iCloud ones now have to be set up using port forwarding. It has always been connected with ethernet to the router, what i meant was i am unsure if the DVR has wifi functionality at all. The router is not picking up the ethernet connection.

 

Router has configurable IP range which is default at 192.168.1.68 - 192.168.1.254. Which i have changed to x.x.x.10 - 254, as the default for the DVR is x.x.x.10.

Router is still not picking it up. If i could get it to connect i can change the settings on the DVR to see if it is in fact the resolution that has been set to a default that isn't supported by the monitor.

Hi. Also to change resolution you have a bnc video out on your dvr ... You can use that direct to a tv with av or a scart socket.

 

 

Have you done a 20 minute reset ..........keep unit off for 20 minutes and switch back on before it's 30 minutes .... It's a auto re config.

Today i have tried everything i can.

Holding the enter/ok button on power up nothing changed.

Doing a 20 minute reset nothing changed.

I bought a bnc to scart cable and plugged into TV. It displayed a 4 way split screen with cam1 - 4 and date and time, and would attempt show the feed from the cameras. it would just show multicoloured horizontal lines that kept refreshing. This is all it would display, it would not display any of the system menu screens for me to change the settings or anything else.

I disconnected it from router and connected directly to laptop with a crossover cable. I tried pinging the IP of the DVR and it would return "destination host unreachable" when i tried both the default IP and the IP that was originally assigned to it.

I had a closer look at the 4 way socket it is plugged into and it turns out it is not surge protected. Could the storm/ power-cut have broken it?

I am out of ideas, time to call in the professionals after all.

Hi if your OS is showing up then you need to look at camera power supply.

 

I would also undo all camera connections on dvr

 

Test each camera same way as you did dvr direct to tv

but I'll explain my posts to you as your only a DIYer

 

Dvr starts up dvr displays OS AND cameras ......... So dvr is ok

 

Camera display is distorted so now time to test each camera ...... One could be sending more power than it should be back to dvr making it reset ........ And also messing up the other 3 cameras

 

SO ITS A TEST FOR THE OP

 

SO AGAIN NUMB NUTS ........ STOP MESSING POSTS UP YOUR LIKE A LITTLE CHILD.
