Recording PC Screens on DVR

Recommended Posts

I am looking to be able to record 8 PC screens along with approximately 6 cameras.

What is the best way to capture the PC screens (their resolution is 1680x1050)? I have seen "software" mentioned that allows the PC to send an IP stream like an IP camera, but there have been no specifics mentioned and my internet searches are coming up empty.

Good day

what you will need is a VGA to Video converter to covert the image from the pc to the monitor into video which can then be connected to the DVR, you will need a 16 ch DVR if you want to connect 8 PC's and 6 Cams as 1 screen takes 1 channel on the DVR,

hope this helps

You could use VLC to "stream" your desktop in RTSP and record it on a NVR. SOmething like this (it is in spanish):

Keep in mind that with RTSP you will have no motion detection, so you will have to record continuous.

I also found this software that is supposed to turn any desktop into a ONVIF camera, so it can be recorded easily from a NVR. I sent them a contact email a while ago, but they never repplied.

With VGA to analog converters you could also do it on the cheap, but you would recording with SD resolution; that works ok, but do not expect to be able to read small texts/details.
