my SDI cameras keep going blank, help!

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this issue has been discussed before, but i need help and advice.

I recently moved business premises and fitted a brand new 4 camera 1080 SDI system.

My old business premises also had two cameras running on an SDI system, and they were constantly going blank, and the only way i could get the pictures back was to unplug them from the back of the dvr and back in again, then it was hit and miss, and i put it down to being a shoddy installation, using sky shotgun cable for power and signal at the time.

Now I have moved premises, i purchased a brand new SDI DVR and 4 SDI cameras, and also an expensive reel of cctv coax with power cable attached, I also bought the best bnc plugs i could find. the cameras are all different makes and the new DVR is also a different make to the old one.

Yet after installing the new system in a very pro way, I still get cameras going off with a "video loss" message in the quad screen.

its driving me in sane, if i unplug the cameras and back in, they come back on too just like with the old system.

Is this a manufacture design flaw? can it be solved?

Length Does Matter

The valid distance a video signal on coax will go without a need of a repeater varies based on cable types, the integrity of the insulating layers, SMPTE standards, camera chips, and so forth.

HD video uses more bandwidth throughput than analog cameras, installers must use RG59 or better coax. Pre-made cables that are a thinner gauge than RG59 will not be able to transmit the video signal effectively. It is also recommended to use a high quality 95 percent or better copper cable. Great quality cables also minimize impedance issues. 5CFB, 5C2V (RG-59U), or RG-6 cables with at least 192 braid better avoid signal loss and data transmission interference. The effective distance that a video signal can transmit over RG59 cable is 120 to 140 meters (300-350 feet) without the use of an HD-SDI transmission extender. In order to transmit 3G-SDI videos at 1080p 60fps, the cables must meet SMPTE259M/424M-2006 standard.

Normaly the for SDI camera the issue is BNC connector try to used normal one that connector have black robber cover (screw type)
