mimmscon 0 Posted January 29, 2017 I would like to put an IP camera on a covered boat dock. What is the max distance can the wire travel? What type wire (cat 5 cat 6)? Fiber optic? Should it be run in conduit underground? Lightning protection? Any help appreciated.
ssmith10pn 0 Posted January 29, 2017 100 meters by cat5 or cat6. Several companies make extenders to go beyond that. Protectors are a good idea.
mimmscon 0 Posted January 31, 2017 Thanks for info. How about lightning protection? I want to run cable in a conduit underground to a boat house. Any special protection to keep lightning from coming back into the NVR? And is cat5/cat6 the best cable for this application??
ssmith10pn 0 Posted January 31, 2017 We use the PRM4 surge module chassis and PNETR6 modules. You can also use the PNET1GB for a single run. http://www.apc.com/shop/us/en/categories/power/surge-protection-and-power-conditioning/surge-protection-devices/protectnet/_/N-1r8hw9s
