DVR: NO VIDEO when using UPS under certain circumstances

Recommended Posts

Hi, I installed a DVR System, with 5 Cameras, Cat5e, Baluns.

Here is the problem: I increased the Voltage for distance reason,  to about 14 Volts, and the cameras work even with night vision turned on. (cameras 12v +- 25% capable).

Even when I use the UPS, it works. But sometimes I hear the UPS is cicking in, not sure if its surge protection or voltage regulator. When that happens, its not running on battery, so that's not the reason. When that happens, I loose the image. Specifically, I loose the cameras which run on Night Vision. During day and lower power consumption there is no problem even with the UPS.

I calculate that I need 45 Watts. The UPS has 1000VA. I was thinking if I need a pure Sinewave UPS, but that would still not cause the Cameras to fail. Another strange thing. This happens even if I only connect the DVR to the UPS, and the Cameras directly to the Power outlet.

Right now I removed the UPS, so the system runs. But the Client wants a UPS or Battery.

Any ideas?
