LPR system needs

Recommended Posts

I am looking into buying a REG-D1 and would like to know a few things about it if anyone has any experience with any of the Extreme CCTV products and maybe even this particular camera.

1. I have a narrow driveway that it would be installed at but not too narrow for 2 cars to fit through at the same time. Its a tight squeez but they do go two at a time once in a while.

Will a single camera setup work or should I be considering a dual camera setup?

2. For the overview camera does it require a second channel on a DVR (one for LPR and the other for overview)?

3. If I'm doing the OCR on the LPR camera with a computer and LPR software can that computer be used to store the images as well.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Stuart

Hey Stuart a couple of things to take into consideration when dealing with license plate reg:

1. From how far away do you plan on mounting the cameras from where you will be recording the cars. There are different models to correspond with these distances. Optimal distance is calculated based on a 6 foot wide lane.

2. The maxium angle you want is 40 degrees from where the camera is mounted to where the plate will be. H&V

To anwer your questions:

1: My thought on that is if one unit is setup to record a plate at a certain point if the car is out of that range the image quality would be decresed or useless. So having one for two cars going at the same time wouldnt work.

2: Both cameras do have a seperate dvr channel.

3: The dvr will record the images it records.

As noted above, you need the distances from camera to target point.

The different LPR camera models, the further you get away, the narrower

the FOV is.

So you want the camera and target point to be as close as possible.

This is because the FOV is much wider with the nearby camera.

For example, I had a Reg-L1 camera with the 75mm setup,

and at 66 ft, it had a FOV of not quite 6 feet.

Now I was supposed to get the 16mm, and according to

ExtremeCCTV a FOV of about 12 feet. I 'll know the answer

this weekend, when we install the correct camera.

Note, Extremecctv had an online calculator that will as you

for distance from camera to target, distance from camera to centerline,

and height of camera. These will help you pick the right model

for your application.

As an example, cam-target of 15 ft, lane center of 12 ft,

and height of 10ft , puts me in the 16mm version of the L1.
