Is it normal that I cannot change the password of my security camera?

Recommended Posts

We have asked a company to install an NVR and an outdoor security camera for our home.

To watch it, we download the app DMSS.

To watch it on the web, we use a website that starts with 192....

The installer gave us the password to login to that website and to log into the app on the phone. But he said we should not change the password.

Is this unusual as it seems the installer will be able to watch the footage, too.

Pls advise.

Thank you

Hi. This is called a BAD installer

Hi will have setup a user account for you and changed the admin account to his own password

two problems with this …. First he has full control over your system …. Which also means he can also view your cameras

with setting you up as a user instead of admin …. He has also locked you out from viewing log

192.168.x.x is a local ip ….. can you also view on a device away from your home

Thank you for your kind reply.

Yes, I can see the footage wherever I am if I have the internet.

If you have further advice, pls let me know. For example, is it common for installers to do things like this?

Thanks,

Hi like last post a bad company would and in most places is illegal

depends on we’re you are in the world

you have paid money for a cctv system  yours is a (dahua)

you must have admin writes or you have paid money for something you don’t own

all you are going to get is high bills from your installer

password change bill

network problems bill

they can also give you problems remotely and charge you to fix

so no it’s not something a honest installer would do …. Infact your held to ransom….. you have to pay to change your own password  …. (Dahua recommend you change often)

don’t treat this installer as your friend demand he comes back and does a reset … ( not over the internet)

are you located in the UK
