Help needed with setting up IP camera and NVR system

Hello, 

i have this funny Chinese DVR/NVR, that i have been using for years as a DVR with analog cameras. it is not great, but it works, and its horribly insecure, but i don't connect it to the internet to that's fine. i have a random Edimax?? IC-7001w IP camera i got ages ago for something or other, and i was trying to connect the DVR/NVR to the IP cam and use as an NVR. this is more an experiment, however i could not get it to work. I am not using the LAN, i was trying to plug the IP camera directly into the NVR, and it seemed to recognize it was there when i was trying to configure it, however the NVR kept giving "Wrong username or password", or "Not Enabled" messages, and it all got me confused. 

I'm not a total networking dummy, but i am by no means an expert, and i was wondering if some of you clever people could help. (is the camera even compatible with an NVR?)
