Video Transmission/Control Devices

Installing DVR with 1000ft Cat 5 run to PTZ... Will I need an active receiver (NTZ) or will the RS485 without any receiver give me a crisp clear picture. Also would I be better off just running RG59 the 1000ft.

NVT recommends not running ptz signals through active NVT transcievers.

[edit - was thinking of coax telemetry, didnt notice the rs485 bit]

Whats a NTZ?

You could use an Active TX ( single channel) at the camera, and then a Passive RX (multi channel if going to add more or just single channel) at the DVR side .. or vice versa.

Passive to Passive will have video quality loss at that distance, which is why Id suggest Active on one end.

Over 750 feet NVT will not support up the coax type data signals such as Pelco's Coaxatron. If you are using Cat5, you can get a little bit more distance out of it, but anything higher will require the data signal to be separated out from the video signal.

Thanks for the reply's... Looks like I can get a little better price on the Nitek TR515 over the NVT - $123 Vs $164 US - so it looks like I will use the active TR515 RX at the DVR end and passive TX at the Camera end. I know you get what you pay for
