question on Kalatel cyberdome housings

Recommended Posts

I just bought a cyberdome camera and need to get a housing..

Couple of questions:

1. Is there a difference in terms of quality and erase of wiring or use between the coaxail and the UTP interfaces?

2. The camera is located in Miami Florida. It will be mounted outside. So, it's hot most of the time. Do you guys think I need to get the housing with the heater/fan?

3. What do you guys think about these prices? (see link below) Can anyone here beat them?

I'm thinking about the 7-inch pendant housing, coax interface, with heater and fan.

Also an install question. Do you need a keypad for the cyberdome or just control it from Geovision?

I found this next to PTZ's supported by Geo.

Kalatel Dome *use KTD-312 and KTD-410 Converter as RS232 to 422 converter

Does this mean I don't use the GV-net?

Thanks

Yes, if you use Active UTP Receiver, it is better quality video. If you use a passive, it will be same quality as coax, and you can only run as far as 750'. Active allows up to 1.5 miles, or repeated for longer. Both UTP types will give you no interference issues commonly found with coax. It obviously costs more, but you get close to Fiber quality, and better than coax.

No it will be fine as is, we dont use fans down here, where it is hotter or as hot all 12 months of the year.

3. What do you guys think about these prices? (see link below) Can anyone here beat them?

CCTVTime has dealer prices shown, so no, you will generally not beat them anywhere else, those are the prices I have to pay also. Sometimes from one distributor to the next, there may be a difference of $40-100 more or less.

You dont need the heater and fan.

Cant answer that, but normally you can just use the windows GUI to control the PTZ if you dont want to use a keypad. The keypad is better for local live view but not required if you use the windows GUI software.

I guess you have to buy those so the Kalatel will work with the GEO. I have never used it on a PC that way.

Looks like it is required to connect to a PC.

Looks like this translates the signal so that computer software can understand it.

If you need more info on the Cyberdome you can also email GE direct:
