Axis/Panasonic for a basic home install?

Recommended Posts

My friend and I are going to update his IP cameras in his holiday villa.

Budget: $500 per cam.

Location: two indoor, two outdoor.

Enviroment: Sunny, dry, dusty climate.

For a couple of years he has been using the old Dlink DCS-53300w

A 1lux Pan Tilt IP cam

http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DCS-5300

Initially I intended to install Axis 207s.

But he likes the Pan Tilt and digital zoom.

So I proposed the Panasonic BB-HCM311

http://panasonic.co.jp/pcc/products/en/netwkcam/lineup/bb-hcm311/partnames.html

However this one seems to be a 3 lux cam.

Axis 207

pros: image quality - price

cons: doesnt fit outdoor housing - No PTZ (the axis212 is 10lux )

Panasonic

pros: ummm price?

cons: 3 lux - rated for outdoor use but too easy to steal

So im kinda lacking direction. Anyone point me the right way?

F:2.8, though it claims 0.2 lux. Doesnt mention what kind of CCD it is. Seems like its designed for indoors mostly, since they dont show any outdoor images.

Re the BB-HCM531A

Still digging for the CCD info

2 lux, and 0.2 in "colour night view mode"

Im always suspicious of specifications that jump from 2 to .02

The outdoor fixture for this "Outdoor" camera is a farce.

Bloody good image quality though

Demo of the BB-HCM531A

Here

http://24.148.122.144:5001/

Up the resolution to 640x480

The Axis is a straightforward 1 lux.

how about using a pan/tilt outdoor housing, like the Pelco PS20 ?

[edit by mod-store link removed. rk]

then you can put in a standard network box camera.

since with your camera choices, you still have the issue of an outdoor housing. most of those are going to be $500 themselves.

Great suggestion, thank you.

Never even crossed my mind :/

I would need softwear to control them, preferably integrated with the IP recording app.

Looking into it.
