Is there anyway to connect a high resolution CCTV analog monitor to a computer for use with GeoVision, or other PC-based DVR's?

 

Looking for higher resolution than we can get from the VGA monitors.

You can get a converter, but your resolution will be limited. The thing about analog versus digital is it depends on what your source is:

 

If you start with analog cameras, then feeding them to an analog monitor (either directly or through an analog switch) will give you the best picture. If you first digitize the video, as with a DVR, that will limit you to the digitizer's capabilities and the resulting video will be whatever quality you chose at the DVR.

 

Likewise, if you start with a megapixel IP camera, converting it to analog will cause the picture to be limited to NTSC standards and the resolution capabilities of the D-A converter.

I believe you only need a tv tuner card in the computer or xternal card to get it to work.

Just get new video card with RCA composite video out. Most of the new cards provide multiple video output formats now. You may need RCA to BNC adapter to connect the RCA video output from the video cart to standard BNC input on your CCTV monitor.

 

I agree with survtech, the video resolution may not be that much different.

Resolution is limited to whatever your capture cart can support.

 

That is why I stick with standalone DVR's. Live video is much better.
