  1. ive used microetek for wireless analog and it was good.. those sony 550s are like 3grand a piece, prob a bit overkil for home.. take a look at the panasonic wireless cams, ive heard good things about them for home installs (and at 300bucks prob a good start, if its not what u need then goto a few grand a camera for microtek wireless and good box camera)

  2. i have a client that has an indoor batting cage for his daughters softball team - he's really into softball, anyway they use this room for practice during the winter and want to setup a highspeed recording system that they can analyze pitching and swings, etc - i have put in a system for his other business, a truck engine recycling yard, and will be putting a system in this office building as well but wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this type of "high speed sports recording system"

i am going over tomorrow and set up one camera and my dvr at 30fps and see if that gets him what he needs... but he probably needs to be at more like 300fps for this type of application

    any thoughts?

  3. i like western digital,, have been using the 500GB drives since they came out and no problems and my older systems out there (3years or so) have been 120 and 220GB wd drives and no issues so far

    havent used seagate

  4. i have used smartwire - ie windy city wire - their dist facility use to be 15min from my office but they just moved - some of their coax i have had a problem with because the center conductor was stuck to the inner white coating(like when they made the cable it just fused to the center conductor and u had to use a wire stripper to get it all off) and made terminating it a bit of a chore - never seen this happen with other cable from west penn or belden but i do like the markings on the wire for distance

  5. why when i read any article about ip from an ip mfg do i think im being talked to by obi wan; you do not need to question the price im telling you or the ease of install, or not needing to setup a separate network for megapixel camearas

i know there are applications for it but i guess im just happy delivering easy to use reliable dvr systems that people can access remotely

i do plan to look into more ip stuff when in vegas next month

oh and i did install 3 ip sony ptz cameras today for a scrap yard - for the price id go non ip for ptzs but thats just me at this point

  6. i dont do residential installs but i did run some cable in my old condo and had to run in the carpet - go under the molding if you can because the carpet padding will start to roll up a bit when pulling cable under or over it - it becomes a real b*tch - but then again i dont think i had much patience with it... goto home depot and get some wire fish rods - in the electric area but only use one 5ft - rod at a time but u can connect 3

    good luck

  7. detail at 50' from the camera would be reasonable - 90 ft with that width will be stretching it a bit - i would get 5-50mm varifocal lens on both camera, mount and see what you can do and be happy with - also really depends on what res you are recording at as well

  8. as for loop outs you could always buy a video dist hub that would give you 4 outputs per input - i use one from pelco for a few clients here in chicago and it works great because my dvr doesnt have loop outs - and you'll probably find that if the dvr does loop its only one per input

as for frames you'll probably find most pc dvrs are in the 120fps/16 for d1 resolution and can do 480fps for lower res - when you put more that 16 cameras on a pc based dvr you wont get better than 120fps

  9. setup 2 spec4s last week for outdoor yard coverage and the 35x zoom was very good and the cutfilter to b&w at night had a good clear shot at nite as well.. didnt get into the scheduling tours or presets by time yet tho.. but overall a good upgrade from the spec3

  10. i have a client that needs 3 high res fixed outdoor ip cameras that focus on floor scales that weigh scrap metal, i being a cctv/dvr guy need some assistance on what i should recommend for ip - i use ganz, pelco, and panasonic for analog so was looking into those mfg.

so i need to following suggestions:

    1. suggest a model/mfg

    2. i will be putting this camera in a outdoor housing

    3. can i use a regualar cs lens for this ip box camera or do i need a special megapixel lens

    thanks guys!

  11. has anyone used the new spectra yet from pelco? the thing i want to check out is the scheduling of tours/presets using its built in time scheduler and to checkout the advancements in wdr and the 22x bump to 35x lens

getting one in a few weeks for a job

  12. i did a hospital install recently and we had some long runs and then rackmounted 2 dvrs. i had one or 2 cameras that were getting what you discribe but with a good picture just the lines. i looked back behind the rack and found that the termination was a bit close to a powerstrip/power supply for the rack - i moved the supply away from my dvr/pigtail/coax and presto no more lines.. id also check the bnc connections again

did you homerun the power along with the coax?

  13. i would go pickup a 4channel 24vac fused power supply from altronix and connect your camera and you will be good. the cheaper way would be to go get a 24vac transformer plugin and connect your camera that way.. i always go with 24vac for power because i like to centralize my powersupplies in the same room as the dvr so when a client calls and says the cameras is out i have them open the altronix power supply and check the fuse and its usually blown and they replace and its back up
