because he is robbing the place
just kidding

call pelco direct they can help you out no problem good support
a few tips,
make sure when you pop in the camera it seats correctly - line up the blue and the red arrows and let one side click in and then the 2nd side
on the lower dome you will see 2 metal pieces bend them out a bit away from the middle of the dome if you have it flipped over - some times those will rub up against the camera when its doing its initial startup config and the camera will abort the config and say failed
make sure you have at least 19vac at the camera, you should be running 24vac to the dome but check it direct at the camera if its under 19 it will fail as well in the config
check your rx + - make sure your connected to those not the tx for control from a keyboard

call mobotix and have chris have someone come out to you with their ip 3 megapixel camera to test - it has 2 way audio and the mic and speaker are both very good

the guru has a history of slamming anything thats not his beloved indigovision - i think its getting a bit old
-
id look at mobotix and also avigilon for megapixel
-
i just dont think it will record direct to usb because of the speed, but wouldnt someone just take the pc and everything connected to it if they robbed you..not an easy solution
-
try backing up to the usb drive not recording direct to it

checkout mobotix, 3mp cam streams direct to nas, free vms.. i have been keeping up with avigilon and they have very good cameras but they are definitely application specific not ones ud roll out for an entire site and not cheap but some really impressive cameras

6tb storage for 4 cameras? could be a bit overkill but don't know how long you want to keep video - i have one client on a 2.5tb nas for 11 mobotix cameras and they are getting about 60days
i really like mobotix, i havent used their mx server software thats needed to integrate other mfg ip cams into their control center vms - you can view the cameras live on mx control center but to view recorded it needs mx server which puts it into a format to view which i believe is mjpeg which isnt ideal
i do have another client that uses milestone with mobotix and axis.. he preferred mobotix outdoor because of the poe, megapixel image, day/night dual chip and no additional housing
for a home system i wouldn't have a problem using the mobotix cams without integrating them with the others, the power of mobotix is that everything is done on the camera if you have it just stream to a vms app server like milestone, etc you really dumb down the cameras abilities...its a camera that you will continue to mess with it just has so many options and interesting things you can do with it - a fun camera

cameras consume only 3w - mobotix

spoke with a few experts in the field of ir and its a power issue with poe, not enough power to power such a ir illuminator device for any distance so it looks like we will have to run power for the ir illuminator. so be it
-
anyone used anything out there that is poe and outdoor rated.. the ones i have seen from raymax and axis are poe but not outdoor rated as well, the outdoor ones need a sep power supply which for this application we want to only run poe devices
thanks

ive used adtran poe 24 port switch.. its solid

mobotix has the same image focus tool built into the camera and some of the camera models come with the lens already mounted so no need to adjust which is nice
-
if you want day/night you go with the m12 - dual lens - color for day and black and white for night.. or go with a sec night option on that dome but then its always bw but comes with IR lens
hope i didnt confuse

wireguy what about using 900mhz, you dont need line of site then... i am setting a system up for a housing development for their front and back gates and using avalan 900mhz wireless for the one gate, the other we are getting cable company to run internet line. i am also using mobotix for all the cameras - free management software and they will stream direct to a storage nas box, no need for an ap server
-
the lens he sold you is a dc auto iris so it needs some dc power to open and shut the iris to let light in - i dont believe that arecont camera has a dc out for that cord off the lens to plug into -- that would be my guess on why its not working
get a manual iris 1/2" lens or buy from an arecont dealer who will sell u the right lens -- with megapixel cameras if you go with a low end lens you will get a low end 5 megapixel image thats out of focus - u need to go with a high -end lens
hope that helps

pelco just dumped their ac - i might look elsewhere for ac
Pelco announced today that it is exiting the electronic access control business. The company said that the current economic climate affected its decision.
The news means the shuttering or divestiture of the Intelli-M access control system and the entirety of Pelco’s electronic access business.

do this google search and you will find all the mobotix m12 cameras you can take:
intext:"MOBOTIX M12" intext:"Open Menu"
argentina beach on a scanner - could be interesting in the summer

it covers a diameter of 30feet when mounted on the ceiling and you can then zoom in after the fact digitally - i will be installing my first one next month so ill let you know how it goes - but from the demos ive seen its impressive
you can view it in quad layout and set the zoom on each -- so if you want a tigher zoom on the door you can do that and then have a wider shot for the register, etc
setting focus via software

the mobotix dual lens m12 camera comes from the factory focused - you pick the lens option 90degree, 45degre, etc and you position the camera and are good to go, but the m22 and others where you have to install the lens yourself you will still need to focus manually at the camera like the axis but mobotix has a tool in the gui that assists on the focus (you match a red and green line to the same length---we digitally zoom in to the max level then focus)
laptop works but also i have used my iphone on a ladder with a wireless connection to the camera
