  1. Depends on what you want to see; do you want to identify people coming to your front door or do you want to focus more on your yard and driveway. The most discreet area (IMO) would be under the eave on the right side of the house. A wide angle dome or bullet would cover your yard, driveway and front door area. Where are you running your wires to? Little more info please.
  2. I was told by my cable provider (COX Communications) that it wouldn't work with digital cable. The channels available on my Channel Vision modulator were 65-135, which were all occupied by digital cable channels. Regular analog cable only went to channel 71 or something freeing up channels 72-135. Then again it was 5 years ago when I installed the cameras so its been a while, memory is a little fuzzy. I don't know if it would of worked or not (cable tech support is shady at best) I knew my other option would work, so I did it that way, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.
  3. It wouldn't work. You could try this http://www.channelvision.com/index.php/component/virtuemart/details/301/114/bnc,-rf-connectors,-cat5-&-wallplates/attenuators-&-filters/3101---cable-box-combiner.html Never used one but looks like it would work. You can always contact Channel Vision or Channel Plus tech support for more detailed info.
  4. This is what I did for my home setup. 1. Ran another RG6 to every TV I wanted to see the cameras on and terminated it in the antenna input. 2. Installed the modulator before it split into the digital feed. Hooked up RG6 to modulator. Bypassing the digital all together. So the antenna input is analog and I can view my cameras (channels 100-106). Put the digital feed (component video) on another input on your TV (Video2 example) Someone knocks on the door while your watching the game, just hit the input button to antenna and you can see whos at the door! If its the pizza guy answer it, if its some kid selling something FORGET ABOUT IT!! The hardest part was running the extra RG6 to the TVs and fishing the wall. Oh yea, I had to buy a low pass filter to clean up the picture. Good Luck!!

Are there any good Outdoor Dome Cameras

For roughly that price range I have had good results with the KT&C KPC-WDR470. I see they have been discontinued (still available through some vendors) but a replacement model will be out soon.
  6. You can try placing a silicon dessicant bag inside the dome to help absorb any moisture. We had the same issue with a KT&C weatherproof dome, we tried everything; silicon gel, dessicant bags and nothing worked. We ended up swapping the dome with another dome and that solved the problem. I guess we had a bad dome that wasn't completely airtight. Good Luck!

  10. Yes we have used the AV2100 but switched to the 3135 for storage reasons.
  11. Its been a while since I installed that camera, I'm pretty sure it was all the way out at 2.5.
  12. I put up a KT&C KPC-WDR470 to watch my pool. The WDR is great and the camera performs really well in low light conditions. The WDR470 comes with a 2.5-6mm varifocal lens which might suit your needs. Here are a couple of snapshots. Note- the streetlights behind my back wall provide a little light. First picture is the camera in relation to the pool, its kind of hard to see (the red circle is where the camera is located under the eave)
  13. We have attended a couple of mega pixel "shootouts" with venders from Axis, Arecont, Panasonic, IQeye, IOVision, Stardot and Lumenera. In our opinion the Arecont's performed the best and we have since installed dozens of the 3135 H.264 cameras.

Newbie needs help buying the "right" camera

I just did a rec center and we put 2 Vandal Proof Domes model KT&C KPC-WDR470 in the basketball court. I agree with Scorpion, the WDR is necessary because of the glare off the floor of the basketball court. The cameras work great and you might want to consider vandelproof domes cause the kids like to use the cameras as targets practice. The domes have taken several direct hits from basketballs and still function perfectly.

    can anyone get Nuvico?

    Spytown sells Nuvico.
  16. I use ToteVision LCD-410 with tote bag (TB-410) Although if you are using it outdoors on a sunny day, its a little hard to see. You have to bury your face in the sun shield.
  17. Same situation here. I would like to get kernel drivers for new Debian/Ubuntu Dists. I believe a company called DSP Research may be of some help as they have their own SDKs for these cards.
