  1. By using the HD-SDI repeater, you can repeat up to 1KM
The largest shortcoming for using HD-SDI repeaters is the need to place them mid-span. For longer runs, it gets even worse. First, your DVR must be capable of sending power down the coax, and that can limit the number of repeaters you can use. Second, you would have to find point(s) along the cable to cut it and insert repeaters every 80m or less (EqcoLogic specs out 83m max distance at 3.0Gbps = 1080p on RG59 (Model SL-EQCO-3G)).

Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) products can be placed at the ends of a cable and can send IP signals up to a mile. For instance, the Vigitron Vi2401 specs out at 1,800 feet at 100Mbps and up to 5,000 feet at 10Mbps. There are also extenders for UTP, something HD-SDI cannot do. The Vigitron Vi2301 can send 100Mbps data and power 2,100 feet over a single 4-pair CATx cable.

Cutting cable and inserting devices along it is never a good thing. Each added device creates three additional "single points of failure" (two connectors plus the device itself). While both HD-SDI Repeaters and EoC devices add multiple failure points, at least EoC's points are located at the accessible ends of cable runs, not somewhere in the middle and likely hidden.

Add the difficulty finding the 80m point of a single cable possibly buried among many and you have an instant recipe for frustration.

Well, now they have HDCVI that seems to solve the cable length limitations. Wonder if it will it kill off SDI before it get really popular.

  2. Hi,

5K budget was for labor ideally but if need be, I can move the budget up slightly.

I'd love recommendations for specific equipment.

We don't have someone literally in front of the screen every minute but when somebody buzzes the door, it would not be alright to have lag as they enter and we open the second door. This could potentially be a security issue where one person leaves the door open for others to come in after him and from the 1 sec. delay it would not be ok.

With SDI if the dvr/camera/cabling is tip top condition, there would not be even a 1 sec delay.

  3. Hi everyone,

I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the technologies and doing reading on the forum.

We have an office where Live View is very important. We use it to buzz in people into the shop. Our shop houses very expensive items so security is a concern.

I've seen video comparisons showing the latency in IP cameras vs. HD-SDI cameras. In our particular situations, would you guys recommend an HD-SDI install vs IP cameras? If so, is there a recommended brand\model of camera? I'm looking to spend about $5K for an 8 camera system.

    Thx

If 1080p is good enough for you than SDI is the way to go! Your budget should easily buy 8 SDI Cam with 8 Channel SDI DVR!

  4. No i dont see any option to force the power on it, i will post a screenshot of the poe settings page when im back home (im on iphone), but im pretty sure its not possible.

I know the switch supports the 802.3af standard though.

Most chinese IPC assembler except for the bigger one like Dahua/HIK will use an add-on board like this. If you can open up the case, check for this module

  5. Hello,

    thanks for your reply.

I'm not so positive about Everfocus anymore. I haven't been able to get any of their demo working. It is also made in China and I read on this board:

Do Not Buy HD-SDI from China

    only from Korea

I do not agree with this, I deal with Taiwan, China & also Korean manufacturers & it all depends on what price you are paying

Can you please guide me with one or two correct HD-SDI manufacturer ( eventually UK or Europe reseller )

I am leaving end of next week and I was expecting to have my system running and recording before leaving. It is still possible if you give me the precious info

    Great thanks in advance.

    Greetings to all.

    Camomille

I will try to check with my SDI dvr manufacturer if they have any reps in UK

  6. Hello,

I'm using iwatchDVR 2 on Android and also on PC. I haven't been able to use CMS (and have not searched further either )

I had good picture using iwatchDVR2 on my Galaxy S, even when I am in Thailand !

The model shown on http://lishigroup.en.alibaba.com/product/1030466601-218773253/LS_VISION_8ch_high_definition_dvr.html has not the same look as mine. Maybe a newer version ?? There is no newer firmware!

But what do you think about Everfocus ? I want to buy this 16 ch dvr and a few "non chinese" cameras to test. Please answer this single question: Is Everfocus good ???

    Great thanks in advance.

    Greetings to all.

    Camomille

Maybe you can test their demo of dvr here. http://www.everfocus.com/dvr_demo.cfm

Have not tested any Everfocus products before.

  7. I am after a HD-SDI DVR that will be compatible with new SDI cameras but still allow me to use my 700TVL/D1 cameras

what good affordable DVR is currently on the marker? what brand? I am after a 8 channel with minimum 2TB.

Only way is to get a Hybrid if you want to use your 700TVL analog. FYI, if your camera is really 600TVL or above you can have 960h instead of D1 for analog.

  8. for those familiar with SDI :

which brand is best value for money?

I am looking for a 8 Channel HD-SDI DVR with 2TB and a couple of anti vandal dome SDI cameras

my shotgun cable is already in place with D1 cameras

can I still use my existing D1 cameras on the HD-SDI DVR?

Actually brand is not as important as the chipset use, I find Panasonic CMOS with Eyenix is very nice while the Nextchip NVP2400 has big problem on night view. Newer Nextchip seems to have address this problem, NVP2421 & NVP2410 and also have real WDR instead of D-WDR. Existing analog camera cannot be use with SDI Dvr.

  9. My cctv guy says no matter what i use i wont get great night time viewing with out having to install lighting hay does cameras have irs if you need to put in lighting to light the place up

Well, he is right in a certain kind of way, if you have good lightings when your HD camera capture the events, it will be in color. If not you will only see black & white like this.

What make of camera is this?

    HIK

  10. I went this route thinking it would be a good idea, hear a noise in the night, turn the TV on, switch HDMI ports, use mouse to control Android app. In practice, not that practical. First, you have to wait for the TV to run on, you have scramble to find the right remote then find the mouse to control the android app then your eyes have to adjust to the bright TV in a otherwise dark room. It's disruptive if you wife is sleeping and would alert an intruder to your whereabouts.

I found a better solution, actually Maxicon found it first, I just starting it using it and it works for me. It's to buy inexpensive Android tablets, in my case running Milestone's app. I hear a noise at night, reach for my tablet at bedside, tap a button to turn it on, tap on the Milestone app, and voila, I have a view of all cameras. I can take it with me to hide or a safe room. If I left a TV on with all the cameras showing, if I have to move to another location, the intruder can enter the room and watch me if I have to move to another room or provide surveillance to them if police arrive.

I should be a writer for all these detective shows on TV, LOL.

Well, you can have a different use for it. Eg. While watching TV someone rings your front door bell, all you need is switch to the android HDMI channel, presuming it is switch on. I actually use a batch run app that will automatically load the camera. No need to fiddle with the mouse, just power on the stick it will connect to the pre-define channels. More convenient than carrying an android tablet.

  11. Never been to it and I was assuming it's like ISC West which is huge because of the venue, Javits Center. Thanks for the heads up, save me some airfare and $400/night hotels. I was surprised with the ASIS show last month in Chicago, it was larger than I thought, maybe 2/3rds the size of ISC West.

Since you save so much $$$, can consider going to Shenzhen for the CPSE show end of this month. It will blow you away!

  12. We have a Hikvision ip camera that we want to be able to view on multiple tvs throughout the house. Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to accomplish this? I prefer wifi or cat5 to distribute the video, but open to other options. Maybe an android device with hdmi out for each tv? Other?

I will give it a try again and update you later. Previously tested with Dahua GDMSS & was disappointed with the results so have pack up the android sticks somewhere. The iVMSS-4500HD is so much better when I tested with my Nexus 10 so I guess it's time to revive my android sticks testing.

  13. I currently have am ESC-1 720p camera. It's a fine camera, but I am looking to add one more with a little better quality. I'm more concerned about nighttime quality over daytime. I am considering either the Hik 3mp or the ESC 1080p. Which would be better for nighttime quality in a low lit area? I would think that both should have good daytime quality, as my esc-1 is already excellent in that regard. Thanks for the help

Don't have any exposure to ESC IPC so a snapshot of your current night view would give us more insights to which IPC to recommend.

  14. Thank you for your informative reply.

Do you have any issues at all with your SDI cam setup? Pro's/Cons? I'm trying to talk myself into returning my IP system and get this SDI, because I REALLY want that PTZ cam, and they don't have one comparable at that price point. Not looking forward to re-running 8 100" cables either.

The pros & cons is already stated everywhere but for your case main advantage is you already have your coaxial runs! If you need to test drive my SDI DVR you can PM me for the details. I can also hook up my HIK IPC into 1 of the channel for you to compare, but note that it is not a 100% fair comparison because the IPC is view via my Nexus 10 & output into 1 of the SDI channel via HDMI to SDI converter but will more or less shows you the difference.

  15. it was installed three years ago cam 3 that's the sky camera 2 with that light off its worse and camera 4 is the same light when its off its just black the system cost £1400

If that's the case you can install new SDI or IP Camera and off all the lights. Stay green to help our environment
