  1. So the issue was the power supply. I had a spare from an older DVR and it was same model. I swapped it out and now hard drives are detected. Still need the mother board fan. Attaching picture of fan. Any idea where I can get this fan? thank you for all your help.
  2. I have two fans. One on the side and one on the board. The one on the side has not worked for years. And I just detected the one now on the board not working. I can say it has booted up and it’s running without fans and without a hard drive. I just turned off to alert me about no hard drive detected until I can figure out what’s going on. Hasn’t shut down in 4 hrs.
  3. By chance, if the fan is not detected, will it disable to not find the hard drive? I actually did use another hard drive never used in the DVR and it was still not detected. Also the original drive works just fine as I tested it in two computers and it came up just fine. I looked at main board, two lights. One green and one red.
  4. Somehow it started up. It's giving me a hard drive not detected error. So I tested with two different hard drives and still not detected. I went into the hard drive menu to see if it was detected so I can format it, and nothing shows up. Am I missing a step here for it to be detected?
  5. It is a Dahua system. The internal fan on the motherboard is not spinning. As soon as it turns on, you can see it try to move but it doesn't. I also disconnected it from the motherboard earlier today and tried to turn it on, but same beeping sound. I will try another hard drive and see the results. Any way to jump/bypass the fans to determine if that is the issue?
  6. Good morning. I have a GENIV G4-ETRIDR-16 DVR, about 8 years old. It has been working just fine until late last night when it started beeping. Being that it was late, I went ahead and unplugged it from the wall outlet. This morning, I reconnected it and it continues to beep. It will not boot up, just multiple short beeps with no real pattern to the beeps. Sometimes I get 10 short beeps and then one long beep, other times several short beeps with a long beep. I did some troubleshooting by disconnecting the drive, turning off the camera main power but still does not boot up. Does this mean the DVR is dead or is there any other troubleshooting steps to take to see if I can revive it? Any further guidance greatly appreciated. Thank you
  7. Hello everyone. I am borrowing the following camera for home and am having issues. My knowledge is limited with IP cameras... The problem I am having is that the camera works fine in color but switches to black and white all of a sudden and stays black and white until i reboot the device or reset the device. I have looked at settings and all look ok to me. This occurs when connected via IP or via a CCTV cable. Any ideas what is causing this? Is there something that I can do to fix this to continue using this camera? If further info is needed let me know. Thanks again

    BNC to VGA Cable

Good day everyone... In a couple of weeks I will be installing a borrowed system from work to use temporary over the holidays for decorations. I really want to get the best angle but in several locations of my roof's facia board, will cover the view. I would really like to see the image while I temporary mount the camera before running any cables. I know about devices out there that do the BNC to VGA conversion but they are over $50. If I get a BNC to VGA cable sold at my local computer store, would this work? Again I just want to see an image temporary on a monitor. So the BNC side connects to the camera and the VGA directly to the monitor and of course supply power to the camera. Any info appreciated. Thanks
  9. Actually the vandals come after the decorations are turned off. They usually strike after midnight, early morning hours. I do have two 500 watt spot lights up front and a third one to be added this year, plus the street light right in front of my home. Cost is a consideration and from looking at this particular camera price, a setup can get very costly...
  10. Hello everyone. I have been shopping for my home survelliance setup for some time and was mainly focusing on a STandalone DVR and several IR cameras. I was able to borrow from work an IPX-DDX-1500 model camera and tested it last night. The image was great even at night. My main goal is during the holidays and my decorations which were vandalized twice last year and cannot afford it this year. So night vision is a must. So Now I am not sure if to go with an IP based camera setup or with the Stand alone DVR with IR cameras? What would you recommend me using? The good thing is that I do have a spare desktop and several external hard drives for storage. If I should go with an IP, what should I look out for in regards to hardware, models, etc...? The one biggest advantage i see with the IR cameras is that they are smaller then IP cameras with the outdoor housing, but it looks like IP has the better resolution. So any info greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. Hello everyone, just need to vent here. I am in the market for a new DVR and camera system for my home, 4-5 cameras total and I think I have gotten way to deep into the researching. The more I read, the more confused I get. When I think I made a decision I read another post and make me wonder if I am buying the right stuff. Again this will be for my home, and priority one is during the holidays to record my decorations since they were vandalized last year. I was set on H.264 but now I read for facial recognition it is not the best. Then more confusing between MPEG4, CIF, D1, H.264, playback and WOW, I have no idea anymore what I was looking for. Thank god I have a good understanding the cameras, but on DVRs, I am just plain confused. All DVRs and venders have another model or equipment and more confusion. Yes I know I am vending, not much to answer. I probably should not have read so much but I just want to make sure I am buying wisely and being a smart shopper. I did get help from experts here, thanks Shoreviewsecurity esp. via email as well as others, but still looking at my spreadsheet of pros and cons, I am still undecided. ARRRRRR Thanks for letting me vent.

    MPEG 4 or H.264 DVR

Interesting about h.264 being more expensive. Most of the DVR's I have found, the MPEG4 have been more expensive. Will look at all specs to see what is different. Thanks again
  13. Hello everyone. I am shopping around and learning a lot about DVR's and cams, but one question I have had a hard time finding is which technology to go with, MPEG4 or H.264? The system is mainly for my home and all being cams being external. If anyone can shed some light and help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks
  14. Scorpion, thanks for all this info. Yes I have looked at plant christmas and got some traps already. I do live in a corner home so the car can park in any two sides. As for the fence, in the past there was one made with candy canes and light string, but this year I will be putting up a temporary 3-4 foot fence. Would you or anyone else be able to recommend some model cameras and DVR that I can use? On the DVR, should I be looking for MPEG 4 or 264 codec? I am attaching a picture of the yard taken from across the street corner. My biggest worry is actually what is on the lawn and drive way since this year there will be more. Any further info greatly appreciated. Thanks
  15. Hello everyone. I am new here and in need of help. I am building and shopping around a setup for my home. Currently my biggest problem has been during Christmas and my decorations. You see I go over the top each year and last year I was vandalized twice. The second time I had some nanny cams and was able to see some but not much. Lighting is not that bad in this area since I currently have two 500 watt lamps facing the front yard as well as the city street light in front of my home but not as clear as daylight as we all know... So In my shopping around and asking questions, one place said I should be using a camera with the following or similar specs: • Image Sensor: Sony 1/3" Super HAD CCD HQ1 DSP. • Resolution 540 TV-Lines. • True Mechanical Day/Night Chip (ICR). • Min. Illumination: 0 Lux (LED ON) IR Range up to 40m. • External Adjustment Varifocal Lens: 2.8~11mm. 48 LED First questions, are these specs for a night camera for what I am looking for, give me a good quality video? I know if they strike again they will be running in and out so I need something to capture this or at least a good description of the person and if possible the car. Also why would I need a Varifocal lens? Any info on the type of camera I should be using would greatly be appreciated. Thanks again
