Same Duration CCTV Videos have different Files sizes
tomcctv replied to Saturn2017's topic in Security Cameras
Hi that is normal ...... it all depends what happens in each frame. Movement- shadows- wind on trees. Even light change will add to data -
Hi. Keep it simple and use cat5 ...... The link you posted for the cable .... Is cheap rubbish and is not suitable for CCTV. Conduit around your house ..... Can look a mess but if you have to use it again cat5 will allow you to use the smallest conduit possible Cat5 you can get 4 cameras down 1 cable ...... Or 2 cameras plus power .... You need 4 feeds that is only 2 cables.

Basic questions: Quality chain Camera-to-screen?
tomcctv replied to Wetstuff's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hi. At what distance are your cameras going. IP cameras do not need a Internet connection to work .... It's a local network. But I would look at CVI instead of IP it will be better for you as regarding updates. And you will get a lot more for your money if you go CVI -
Hi. 12 Ch nvr for $26. There is not much to expect from it.

New Member needing advice on Hikvision and Dahua systems.
tomcctv replied to JJV's topic in Introductions
Professional installer ....... In what .... Crap. Your cat5 is good enough so save your money. It's actually time, labor and money. Tonight I visited a store that sells Hikvision and has a qualified staff on duty. I asked them four questions, one being about the cable requirements. It doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion, given that one variable is cable length, of which wasn't given above. Again stay away from qualified staff ..... ..... Please let us know what the staff said about cable length..... I'll give you a hint .... It's the same. -
Router changed and can't view Hikvision cameras
tomcctv replied to scgh's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hi. Don't change IP or use DHCP.... All you have to do is go into your router and look for added devices........ Look for your recorder and you will see recorders local IP. ...... Use that on your PC to connect with recorder -

tomcctv replied to guitaristshobi's topic in System Design
Hi. If your talking cable length on each floor only being 50m then only have a switch on every other floor..... Half the amount of switches needed. Managed switch gives you more control over cameras ..... Much better for offsite maintenance https://www.ubnt.com/unifi-switching/unifi-switch-8-150w/ -
37 Network 2 MP Cameras project (Looking for advice)
tomcctv replied to guitaristshobi's topic in System Design
Hi. You will give yourself a headache with that many switches. Look at every other floor and for this amount of cameras I would also look at managed switch. You are right ..... Keep the CCTV to its own LAN network. -
Hi. NVR is HDMI output ..... Laptop is also HDMI output..... So that will not work. Also monitor or not you still will not have access to your router from your NVR. Search for NVR over your network with laptop ..... Enter NVR IP into laptop and you will connect. Then do your port forwarding for access for wan

Your thoughts?: new DVR for small bldg with 2 analog cameras
tomcctv replied to JJM's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi. That distance you are best going cvi ..... Analog HD. Using existing cable and just replace cameras and dvr. https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-dvr-security-system/8-channel-hd-dvr-and-4-hd-1080p-cameras-with-130-night-vision/LHD84W-1-p The problem with your existing cameras is they are 380tvl ...... There is no point connecting them to a analog dvr . -
Hi. Forget onboard SD cards. .... if the property has a lot going on around it ... you may need footage one day and find it over written Look for nvr with alarm input and hide that along with a gsm trigger to protect all camera cable and nvr area

Not exactly take windows XP for example no support since 2014 but a registry hack will get you support to at least 2019. So unsupported for me means not "publicly supported" there's usually support somewhere. But you are right that the unit is old and not worth fixing, but that is what I do I fix things, I am retired and have a lot of time to play with stuff this is just the latest challenge. Thanks anyway We are not talking about a PC or Windows. Enjoy your retirement. Look up CIF recording ....... Then do something better with your retirement
-
Being in the computer industry for 35years ......... Then you should understand what unsupported means..... No support since 2011 IT is in the CCTV world no one wants D1 6fps or CIF @ 10 fps
-
No. Hence your problem ..... You also needed to know the region of your recorder.
