cat5 is not a problem with PTZ your problem is how its connected. that's your first problem ........ you either connect direct to both camera in cat5 OR rg59 but not both other is you mention nothing about baluns......... need good baluns for cat5 to work other is power ???? is it up the same cat5 ??? usually its 1 pair for video 1 pair for data and 2 pair for + and other for -. so if camera runs are long amps could also be your problem can you get local power to cameras ?????? do each camera have own 24v supply ??? your best option with the faults you could have is rewire

First time messing with PTZ cameras what do I need to know?
tomcctv replied to PhoneGuy85's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I plan to either get a capture card or "dongle" from Ebay, or have it hooked to my TV monitor that's next to the computer. Having it on the computer screen would be nice though, so I'll probably get a capture device. The Moxa converters look nice, but I bet they are way more than the $20 converters on Ebay. I don't have a lot to spend on this, heck I got the camera for a "whopping" $10! I'm looking to spend under $50 for the accessories, whether it be a capture card/dongle, or a RS485 converter. If I could get a card with the PTZ control in it, that would be cool too. Looks like the Pelco "D" protocol is pretty universal, I'm going to power the camera up and see what I get, obviously it won't move around without control signals, but I can see if it's getting video or not. Best and cheapest is to look on ebay for a avermedia NVR 3000 card It will record and give you full control of your PTZ -

How would you improve this IR recording?
tomcctv replied to algilson's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Before you can deside your problem I would first sort your existing camera out Nothing to do with lens First look at your IR feed back it covers over 50% of your image. First is lens to dome cover ..... Seat that better then remove tree branch form camera view ...... Then see how your night time image is before anything else -

Hi. Yes it is possible to us your existing coax .... Each of your existing coax can run 4 analog cameras. Analog over power line can also be done but it is very expensive 5x the cost of eithernet power line. (And you need one for each camera) How many cameras are you looking to install -

New cctv system needed
tomcctv replied to icom102's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
if in the UK look at avermedia ..... gives you a lot more options either with aver cameras or 3rd party. if your looking at wanting good IR new aver range is better priced. -
75oms for CCTV don't make the mistake of buying satellite cable

Hi steve no not on a sunday only place would be maplins and there coax is TV which is not good for CCTV same as the coax in B&Q you could try a local installer give them a ring see if they could sell you coax and BNCs but I would try Monday and call to your local CEF store its called RG59 Coax + 2 Cores ShotGun http://www.cef.co.uk/branches/enfield
-
those lead kits are just junk and you cant run your new cameras on them you will need to go RG59 and not the cheap stuff and also good BNCs
-
Hi. with your budget I would go hybrid mix of both MP and analog. your cost of systems listed 500 to 700 is too high for analog with 4 cameras. same budget will get you better.

Will my AT&T Uverse handle a NVR?
tomcctv replied to Rodstubert's topic in General Digital Discussion
hi. your ISP has nothing to do with which you use a DVR or NVR both can be fitted as a standalone system without using internet. only time you need your ISP is to watch your system or record from another location. I would go NVR -
Hi cheap way to protect horses is with a perimeter tag. used with google earth mask off safe area and once tag goes out of that zone alarm is sent and then can be tracked.
-
sounds like cheap lead kits. with going over to HD-SDI you do need to replace your cable with a good coax RG59 with power is best. what area of UK are you. have you used these.
-
Hi. what are your old cameras connected with ????? cat5 coax or maplins lead kits
