Do/Would you display a Video Security sign?
tomcctv replied to Firefighter's topic in General Digital Discussion
i think signs on a house is a waste of time and effort. recording off your property then yes and in stores or gas stations as they are public spaces. if you alert people to your home cctv then you are basicaly telling them you have it. you have to remember cctv is not for protection it is for collecting information that happends around your home. tell them you have it then they will just wear a mask. on a private home keep your cctv private -
yes you can use that type. but just a few things to look at first how far are your cat5 runs. and are you using 12 or 24v cameras ??? and $6 each is a good price.

Hello, From Tennessee (My current System, and Upgrading)
tomcctv replied to Firefighter's topic in Introductions
hi please dont spend that sort of money on only a 1mp camera ... you would be best just buying a good standard camera it better and cheaper. if you look for mp cameras always make 1.3mp the lowest you go dont go below that if you are looking for both (analog and mp) then you would need a hybrid. you can use your existing cameras and add mp as and when your budget allows 8 way hybrids start around $500 -
yes that is ok to do. and on the coax you need a BNC on each end. if you dont have the tools to strip the coax and to crimp then i would look at screw on BNC connectors. or another way is to not use your coax and just use your cat5 do the same as before but the blue and the white with blue stip keep that pair from the rest and use a balun for your video. this is also the best way if you have not done Coax connections before and saves on buying the tools that you may not use again. this is what a balun will look like ( lots of connectors going around that say baluns but are not) you would put the blue cable into the + and the white / blue into the -

IP Cam and Wired Cam DVR.
tomcctv replied to Kevoeire's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
i would say use a hybrid. but to be honest with you it would be a waste of money. the problem is with your Tenvis ip camera. it is just a web cam you will get better images from a good standard cctv camera at a lot less than what that camera costs. in this case you are best off just buying a good D1 dvr with 4 or 8 cameras. this will still give you the remote viewing that you want. -
High res capture card win7 64
tomcctv replied to Mavrik's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
the NV5000t is. its a new card -
hi. not much adjustment on those cameras (dip switch) but looking at your image posted you have mounted your camera in a dark location. ? if you look at your camera and bottom right of the lens you will see a sensor with mounting your camera in a dark place your filter will move. your camera thinks its dark but your looking at light image. move your camera so as the sensor is not switching over.

tomcctv replied to Mavrik's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
NV 3 or 5000 will run but slow. they have been out for 5-6 years. but you are looking for the NV5000 T. notice the T at the end. -

tomcctv replied to Mavrik's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
aver has been around for a long time NV3000/NV5000 are old cards but if you are looking for win7 64 then you need to look at the NV5000 T. http://uk.surveillance.aver.com/product/NV5000T -
hi. did you get is from qvis or cctv ireland. both of which would not have fitted a none listed H/drive. i would go with the loose cable
-
Hi. hdmi does not have a very long distance you can buy extenders but with mouse control they get expensive. another way is VGA KMV with mouse and keyboad control. if you have vgs on both your dvr and tv (might be listed as pc input) then you just need a cat5 cable between them both and a KVM at each end.

So, advice on siren/strobe for CCTV system??? Ideas???
tomcctv replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
hi. the only time you need a relay is if you are switching more than what the internal contactor is rated for. so if your using 12v siren then you dont need one. yes most dvrs have this option. but as you see with your zmodo it only has 1 alarm output. it has 4 inputs but only 1 output. so if you are thinking of using the cameras for the alarm i can guarantee you will have switched it off within a few hours if your cameras are not in a total alarm free area. this is why OPs are saying to use sensors to triger your alarms -
Run 1 video feed & internet in 1 cat5? Can it be done?
tomcctv replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
its done every day you just need to look at ip cameras. -
No. ^^^ Wouldn't that depend on the type of cat5 & overall distance combined with the load of the cam??? Not such a yes or no is it? it depends on the parts used so the answer would still be no. take cat5 you could use 3 pair for 24v power only and the last pair you can run 2 cameras and also audio and data. and you dont get interference issue. so the answer is no

hi. i think you are talking about the dahua. both q-see and IC use them. but as in IC case they are not rebranded dahua make to there spec same internals but the outer is made just for IC. so you will see an extra cost for buying white gray or black case. price your unit against qvis.... only in black .

Question about adding cameras to Samsung SDE 4001 unit
tomcctv replied to riverfisher's topic in Security Cameras
that another problem ..... the BNC is tv out and spot Are we looking at the same unit? "Inputs 8 UTP Line(CH1-CH8), BNC 2 ports(CH1, CH2)" sorry just looked at the spec posted........... not the same as the uk one. infact that US spec has just helped me with fitting a standard camera to the one we have (the image was worse) just noticed on that spec cameras and dvr are 100ohms. but even on the US spec there is a big mistake no video output listed they have add the BNC monitors to the camera input. the BNC are for monitors. -
Question about adding cameras to Samsung SDE 4001 unit
tomcctv replied to riverfisher's topic in Security Cameras
Not according to the specs page: its like alot of the samsung specs. we took 1 of these out last year. the only way you could get a good frame rate was to run cif all dvrs that list ips hide there true spec at 4cif it only did 3fps total max fps at cif is 120fps. that another problem ..... the BNC is tv out and spot -
Question about adding cameras to Samsung SDE 4001 unit
tomcctv replied to riverfisher's topic in Security Cameras
rj systems are not the best to start with. as well as there cameras you will also find the dvr is cif res. you can add other makes IF you know the cable code. but then you have another expence new cable and you also need to add a power supply. i would save your money on adding extra cameras and put the money away and save up to upgrade later. even looking at adding 2 more samsung rj cameras the price is going to be $380 plus there cable -
hi yes then if you are using housings with heaters and fans then you are best running extra power cable.
-
hi you should not need KVMs if you dvr is controlled via a mouse then you should also have mouse control over the dvrs remote viewer. even if you you used a KVM you would still need to have the actual DVR screen at your remote location (to see what your doing with the mouse. but if your dvr supports none of this then the other way is the slingbox. run both your dvr vga output and mouse and keyboad over the internet.
