If you thought aposonic's DVRs are cheap and crappy, then 95% of DVRs from other vendors in USA is even cheaper. It's just pricing strategy. Don't think the higher the price, the greater the quality in security market. You just don't know what you don't know. However, in Chris's case, I had recommended him over phone not to purchase the $500 system which was for low-budget users. Well, update for you guys that many 16-ch systems are less than $600 now, you may try Regards, Nelson APOSONIC CCTV http://www.aposoniccctv.com sorry nelson but i think your 95% is to high. $600 is way to low for even a budget 16 way dvr. and can i point out they is no such thing as a budget user. its not the user he is your customer its the dvr that is budget. many installers know what the lowest price should be before they start buying bad quality and also you have two types of what i call budget. unbranded budget system = no support and very limited. branded budget systems = support / updatable you are right systems are becomming cheaper. but if someone asked me for a good dvr i have in my mind what has the good quality/fps/ and the support. and then price. what is just about to come into force in the uk is the lowest limit a cctv system can be used. (and its about time)

First try at installing PTZ dome & Controller Advice Plz
tomcctv replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
hi Numb-nuts terminating sould not be a problem as you are just using 1 ptz. as far as fitting why not set it up on the floor first and get everything working. using coax and cat5 is not a problem just use 1 pair for your ptz data and the rest split for + and - on the power. -
CNM secure H 264 and i phone
tomcctv replied to kevbabes's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
nsm. its not my problem i dont use them. do you have this dvr working on that APP .... no .... does that App support that dvr ....... you dont know. the people that do know are CNM hence posting the link. and the way you are asking the op to log on is the same as using IE and like Beam00 has said this will be active x which is not supported on the iphone. you might get it to work though the java port (mobile) this will have to be turned on on the iphone. but it will only give you refresh not live view. -
for what the cost of a scart addaptor costs you would be best just buying one.

CNM secure H 264 and i phone
tomcctv replied to kevbabes's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
CNM always gets me fustrated. the back-up service is bad. many people buy CNM as a budget home dvr from the likes of maplins who is another company that will not give support. CNM are on this forum but they will not respond to problems. they have posted a email address to service support. but be aware that the phone number they send has a charge of £45 ($80) for phone support. at the end of the day you just want to know if CNM has a iphone app. and how to set it up. i dont see why they can not just post the info pm them memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=17298 -
Pico2000 3.0 ORS requires new unlocking key after PC crash
tomcctv replied to Dimpen's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
this has happend twice to you. why continue. buy something you have control over. Hercules /Titan / bigbratt are others that also need a licence its not the cards its the software the bigbratt is a hikvision but still needs a licence to run on that system. you will find that on your vista you have auto update switched on ............ never have it switched on when using it as a dvr. you will find some of your drivers have been updated and the licence with the software has seen a change. -

tomcctv replied to Dimpen's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
no its not a bug. like i posted to you earlier you have a problem with the licence. all you need to do is buy a new one. they still are a few companys that make pc based dvrs that need a licence (by the year) to get around this just swop your card and software to something else. -
Numb-nuts. are you getting paid to advertise all these people ???? the apollo is a bad dvr hence the price.

Installing speed domes in a forest
tomcctv replied to redliner's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
if you are talking about a camera for in the sticks were there is no power at all then you are going to have another problem i.e lighting. what is it you will be protecting with the camera. -
thats a lot of money for a ptz with fixed IR waste of money. you would be better just buying two good IR cameras than that.
-
others post ebay links. so i should think so . if you can see your gate from your house (15m) then yes it would be best installing the camera on your house looking over your gate. when looking for IR cameras remember to add the distance you need i.e 15m plus hight 5m = 20m so look for a camera with 25-30m IR range. one camera we did use last year we connected to a intercom system. it watched over the drive until the intercom button was pressed then it would zoom in to the intercom then 20s later it would return to watching the drive. Hi tops. with you just needing 4 camera system i would use a wired system. what systems have you been looking at. also a intercom system is not that hard to convert to have a camera attached .......... were are you in the uk
-
Hi tops. one thing i would say is stay away from ebay and maplins. just a waste of money. as far as a static ip no you dont need one you could just set-up a ddns account. but see first if you can get a static from your isp. if you have your intercom at your entrance then you can add a camera to your system

Pico2000 3.0 ORS requires new unlocking key after PC crash
tomcctv replied to Dimpen's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
there used to be a few companys that used to charge by the year i.e bigbratt. the problem with this type of software is you are going to be paying all the time for licence updates and licences. if you just have 4 cameras just change your card and software ...... to something that you own. -

tomcctv replied to Dimpen's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
looks like you will need to buy a new licence. do you know how much a licence is ??? there website says. ..Changes to your PC hardware or re-installing the operating system may invalidate your registration because the hardware IDs have changed and the PC is no longer recognized. Center Link International accepts no responsibility for the invalidation of registration codes due to system changes. It is highly recommended that your PC setup be completely finalized before registering the software -

Need assistance with a Panasonic WJ HD 316a DVR
tomcctv replied to Jessay's topic in Digital Video Recorders
if you have connected the dvr up to a router. then just go into network settings and find what the local ip is. -
there is nothing better that a pen and a pad and a digital camera. you can spend hours messing with software to give to your protential customer who will also give a copy of your hard work to another company to quote and you might not even get the work.

tomcctv replied to Jessay's topic in Digital Video Recorders
this may help. but if you need footage off your unit quick i would connect it up to a video recorder. remember these only have small H/D and while you have it switched on you could overight the footage you need or you need to switch off auto record as soon as you can. ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/cctv/OperatingInstructions/WJ-HD300AOp%20ManualAddendum.pdf -
