turning laptop into a NVR.
tomcctv replied to Hugosp's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hi. The cables failed before you even used them analog cameras are 75ohm (coax) the lead kits are 100ohm and this effects image quality….. also the power side…… the cable conductor is too small and is noticeable on long cable runs with your budget then I would go iP system with nvr as you can see from the link provided for a vms that’s you budget gone and you don’t own anything i would start off with a 8 way nvr and a few cameras with your budget and just keep adding more cameras as and when your budget allows…… but stay away from hikvision if in the uk -

Hi ok it sounds like you used a sannce cctv kit and the camera cables to go with it …… which is not coax and that type of cable does not last (pre made cables) an nvr or HD recorder will be a cheaper option than a laptop with vms and your laptop will let you down more than be a security system it depends on which option to take nvr or dvr on what your budget is I take it your in the uk -

Hi. With you saying upgrading cables to cat5 it sounds like your currently using analog as far as vms …. It depends on how many cameras and I think your wasting money paying for a vms every year what equipment do you have now -

Hi The one you have is what comes with the recorder when new unplug the pigtail lead and plug it direct into your recorder your supplier should of told you that you also needed a separate power supply for your cameras …….. but instead gives you pigtail lead to run everything ….. which is impossible with only a 12v 2 amp power supply my link is for 12v 5amp and should only be used to power your cameras……. Dvr and camera power should always be separate the link should run 4 cameras 1amp for each camera =4amp …… and 1 amp for power surge……. Which is when IR switches on at night -

Once your power supply problem is fix then we can see if you still have your original problem …… it’s just important that power is the right size and not already at its limit like yours https://www.amazon.co.uk/ARyee-Adapter-Power-Supply-Cameras/dp/B07CM3LM7R/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=3R6KNZ4S8FCUB&keywords=cctv+power+supply&qid=1636491739&sprefix=cctv+power+supply+%2Caps%2C85&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=AJVFH7H2G86LS&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMDRUWUs4Q0pZR09TJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTAzMzIzMURQRk5UVEwwQTRNVCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTM5MjMwMU40NDVEWVdUMkwxSiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl -

Hi. All DVRs are 12v it’s the amps that counts but this is a problem you need to fix first dahua DVRs come with unit - mouse and main power supply you should not run anything else from that power supply and it should be 12v 2amp cameras should be on another power supply 12v 5amp sounds like your under powered -
Best not wasting your money

tomcctv replied to Weaselfeatures's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi. There are a number of settings that will display the alarm led it sounds like your using motion settings motion is a alarm function so will show when in use its not a problem with recorder -
Ok I’m guessing you had your system installed by someone did they setup your password for you ?
-
Hi. That will be the same as your recorder
-
Hi yes you can …. There are a few ways with that system you can insert your recorders local IP address into your browser…… you will find the IP address …. Go to settings bottom left of your screen then network and you will see your recorders local iP you can also use there software ….. I will PM you all software for your system
-
you can also have run the qr code again …. This allows both … home and away but doing it the way I recommend….. has just the away from home using the server setting new rule for local iP is only on your own network …… and you will notice at home your video on app is a lot quicker
-
Hi. you need to setup a new rule on your mobile app (add device) call it home … under description and enter your recorders local IP address
-
Ok you might want to look at the 4K Swann it’s been reduced from £799 down to £299 i would ask why it’s reduced by £500 you will be stuck with proprietary cameras (only works on there system)
-
Ok. But can you give a budget and your location
-
Hi. Good to see your doing your homework I would say stay away from Swann ….. bad remote apps …. Nvrs not very compatible with other cameras but it depends on your budget for keeping costs down ….. do you need 4K on every camera are you installing yourself ?
