1. This is all local PC's. I'm at work but can remote into the 2 PC's at home where I'm trying to get this to work and also the DVR PC that is at my house. My local ISP which is a DSL has some funky rules about opening ports so the only way I can view the DVR from the internet is through a remote access like Log Me In or Team Viewer.

sorry lovebohn. am getting a little confused on what you have. if you are at work and trying to log in then its not local. is you dvr/pc dedicated to just your cameras ???

it sounds like you have to much going on with your network.

when you are at home on the pc that has the avers card in. remove all links to services like log me in and tean viewer. then plug your dvr direct into your router and not your switcher. do you have a static ip ??? then when you are back at work on your work pc log into your system as http://yourip:5550 now this is the webviewer so you should get a full screen with your cameras once you have said yes to the active x command.

  2. Hi all

I recently installed a Swann CCTV camera to cover my front door, specifically this one:

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/43903/Swann-DCC-Dome-Colour-Camera---400TVL---Super

It works well but after a few hours (mostly towards dusk it seems) the picture is distorted by severe interference in the form of thin completely horiztonal lines, if you've ever seen "RoboCop" it looks not unlike the view from Murphy's point of view! But if you interrupt the power when the camera restarts the interference goes away for a while. So this can't be a cabling fault and must surely be a camera fault or have I missed something obvious here?

    Thanks, Andrew/

with alot of swann cameras. you will find it is over powered what size power supply do you have.

  3. I can move the DVR PC over to the router, I just assumed pulling that out of the mix would give a direct connection between the PC's and remove one more source of the problem. I don't see an option for Handy Viewer with the remote console? The only disc I have is the install that came with the card.

you will find handy viewer button ..... setup then network and its on the right lower side.

are you doing all this on a local pc or over the internet

  4. Any one else have some thoughts? I might have to call AverMedia if they are open past 5pm.

still looks like a break in the download. you say your dvr is going though a switch with other ip devices. you are best with the dvr in your router. and do you have handy viewer ticked.

do you have the remote viewer on disk ??

  5. I bought a samsung snc-550 ip camera so i need a network camera host

What is a good network camera hosting service

Idealy, i'd want to be able to set a password before some one could view the camera over the internet

    Thanks in advance

Hi quick-pick. if you mean by hosting (your camera on a webserver) by a 3rd party so as you can have them record your camera.

or are you looking at just loging into your camera yourself.

  6. Just been looking at these Cat5's - Can someone pls confirm if I am running 12 cameras & the power for these 12 camera's within the CAT cable how many CAT cables do I need? Thanks

hi looking at were you have said you need cameras.

4 IR for the general kennel you need 1 cat5 run for cameras. if you dont have local power you will also need to run another cat5 for power.

5 IR camera's to cover particular kennels again you will need 3 runs. if you dont have local power. with wire left over to add cameras later. or use for audio

3 longer range IR camera's for gates - 35m if all in the same location two runs. (1 for cameras 1 for power)

each cat5 with run 4 cameras 1 pair each. either using single baluns or 4 way baluns.

    single balun.

  7.

Well I have been trying to read up on CCTV systems & will admit I am well lost!! Can someone pls put it in plain english or suggest a suitable DVR for me?

I am looking to put a 16 camera system in to cover home & kennels..... I would like to view over the internet (web server I understand is the easiest way) & on my Iphone, record at 25f. send me an email message if the perimeter camera triggers movement, have enough memory for a weeks worth of recording. I cant work out if every camera will record or only ones that trigger movement but would it monitor 16 camera's for movement as it seems a lot? would be better if it just recorded on movement but how good are these do they REALLY work well? ! - would like is it best to get a package price or purchase 'bit's to make a package myself? I have £1500 budget but if this is not enough I can reduce the initial camera's needed & add extra to get to the 16 once funds allow. Wiring will be done by 'Hubby' as the standard length made up wire's will work out too expensive so going for the reel as expecting to need 300mtrs!

(5 IR camera's to cover particular kennels (max distance needed 5m) 3 longer range IR camera's for gates - 35m, 4 IR for the general kennel area - 15m & 6 medium range IR - 25m)

    I am in the UK

    Thank you

Hi. please stay away from what is called box systems cheap kits put together. are not a good idea.

sorry but your budget is a little low but your idea of adding later is a good idea. as far as wiring you will also save money if you use CAT5. (get 4 cameras down 1 cable) with the use of baluns

  8. Hello Tom

on first starting up it comes up with the usual bios checks etc

then it loads up what seems to be an XP standard login prompt

    Username : Administrator

Password : this is blank and it wants something sticking in there

If I login using my domain tech account it continues / pops up with a USB install request - for the keyboard I think and then displays a system prompt telling me that SN had a problem identifying the DVR or something then sits on a light blue xp background style screen doing nothing for hourse.

revert back to the login screen - login as a domain admin and it boots up into the DVR server software and works as it would normally.

The built in Admin account no doubt would do the same but the embedded administrator account has a password set - presumably by Avermedia.

If I had the recovery software I would just roll the thing back to factory default and start again, but I dont think we have a copy as the supplier witholds the disks and charges for this service.

its like having a PC but if windows messes up you have to send it back to microsoft to get it fixed - its putting me off Avers I have to be fair.

getting a disk to you is not a problem. were are you based on the wirral.

if you get the normal viewing screen. go to setup then system and in the top right you have admin rights. i.e log in standard (no passwords) or just press f1 on your keyboad and post the software and ill give you the latest updated.

  9. Hello All

I have a problem with an Aver 5108 unit, someone -(domain admins) have put the unit onto our network domain.

I think this happened when the hostname was changed to something more suitable than AVER782QZZ4353X11 or whatever it was set to before.

Doing this however they have angered the unit and it now asks for an Administrator password each time it boots up.

Its not our usual admin password so I thought perhaps AVER have a standard embedded password that crops up.

I asked the domain admin to log in and it booted up fine,if I log in with tech access it doesnt boot just moans about me not having enough rights etc.

and runs SN telling me that the DVR type isnt recognised or some such message.

I log out / he logs in and it works again perfect... so

is there a standard AVER password that I can just put in after any reboots/generator tests etc or do I need to recover the unit to factory defaults in which case I will need a disk as our supplier only ever hands out the utils disk as they want the business (wisely) of doing all the restores for the customer.

What do you Aver experts recommend

FYI I have tried the passwords 8888 and 111111 that I have seen mentioned in the past on other AVER units but no dice.

sounds like you are only going into guest log in. (set up on install) what comes up on the screen when you first start-up

  10. I have been told by Milestone that they can achieve this and by 3vr that they can achieve this. With 3rd party integration??

there is a american built nvr/dvr that will do everything you ask ..... built for shoping centres. but for

    People Counting

    Left/Removed Object Detection

    Loitering Detection

    Classification Detection / gate /door

    Tamper Detection

you are looking at paying big $$$ .... pm sent

  11. I have a client where they want to put a PTZ over an existing fixed camera install. They have Siamese coax ran to the camera location.

Is there any way to get RS-485 controls without having to run an extra 18-2 wire?

    Thanks guys

Hi vin2install. you could use one of these and run your power/video/audio down the coax and that will leave the siamese power to use as your PTZ control.

  12. Is my router blocking something? I don't think so but I'm starting to second guess now.

hi. you should have ports 5550/5555/9999/53/1053 directed to your dvr.

if you dont use talkback then you dont need 9999. and if you are not using avers ddns then you dont need 53/1053 .

so just have port 5550 directed from your router to your dvr ip.

  13. The remote viewer port 5550 works fine via IE. I can't find any type of uninstall for the console though. Or is it just an icon deletion?

hi its the active x that you need to uninstall.

tools / internet options / programs / manage add ons / and delete webviewer x.

then login to your dvr with port http://your ip:5550 and from webviewer download remote viewer.

  14. when I connect the DVR to TV through RCA connector it's good, i can access the DVR's menu

but, when I connect the DVR to Monitor through VGA connector it's bad, i can't access the DVR's menu, just can view from the monitor, but can't access the DVR's menu. Anyone can help?

hi. if you are talking about vga from your dvr, to vga on tv then you may need to reboot your dvr when vga cables are connected.

  15. Yes, I'm almost sure it's the port 5550. Are you talking doing a full reinstall of the NV program? I'm not on the newest version since there seems to be some bugs. The remote control server is port 5555 is that correct and should the box be checked? Thanks for all of the help today.

hi. no just the remote client software on the pc you are using to log in.

the remote port is 5550 so getting into your dvr remote it would be http://your ip:5550

  16. Logged into the DVR which I assume was part of the original install when I bought it.

hi. you might have had a interruption while downloading. you are best uninstalling the remote console and starting again. either with the disk that came with your card or from this link. http://www.averusa.com/surveillance/download.aspx

also some things to try. your port. is it 5550. and also if you go into computor managment and click on your graphics card and scan for updates.

  17. The other PC on the LAN worked fine with the mobile link to. I did have to add the IP address to the approved list on IE for some reason. No luck on the remote console though.

did you log in to your dvr to get the remote viewer or download it from a site.

  18. I'm trying to get the remote console working on my home LAN. I can do the web viewing fine, but when I try to view via the remote console I just get a flickering of the date and time stamp with no video. I made sure the network tab is on and the one camera that I have installed is highlighted (#1). I will do the direct draw either way with no luck to. Seems not having that on helps show the date stamp. I have tried this on the DVR PC, and two others on my network with the same problem. The video card on the DVR is an ATI 5450 running 1920x1080 if that makes a difference. I have messed with changing the resolution to a few of the more normal desktop setting with no luck to. Help!

what do you see if you just type http:// your ip : port / mobile ... into IE

  19. That camera costs $300. I have friends with good electronical skills. With some basic knowledge of what voltage the camera runs on it should not be impossible to fetch the video signal. I will not buy a new camera, i don't even need it, it's just fun to see what I can do with it.

your right the camera cost $300 and a 50in TV cost $1000. but none of that means anything if you find either in a Bin.

  20. Hey everyone,

I'm working on replacing a camera with a CNB. The current camera is connected with a siamese cable which has a female connector on the power. After reading through some of the posts, it sounds like I can use the existing power supply by cutting off the female adapter and connecting the wires to the green adapter. Does this sound right?

Thanks again, everyone here has been a tremendous help.

Hi gman. yes thats the way most would do it.
