  1. Yeah I hate messenger too. I can’t believe I didn’t realize you could put a web address in the address bar of a folder view. I always see the drive letter there, but it never occurred to me that I could put a web address in there. Learn something new everyday.
  2. I would love to reinstall windows, but that is a major under taking. You have to reload all your software, locate all the updates for the software. You have to reinstall all the service packs, updates, etc. More importantly to me though is it takes me quite a while to redo all my customized settings that I lose. There has to be an easier way.

If he reasoned like me he is buying Geo because that is what you can find the most information about on the internet. That’s why I bought Geo. Could be many better solutions, but there is more conversation than Geo than any other. So most people probably think it is better. I know I did and still don’t know any better. That’s all I see is discussion of Geo’s. They must have the market share and people equate that with the best product. We all know that this is not necessarily the case.

I had posted this link earlier in the post but felt embarassed and removed it. http://www.spytown.com/tosikhirdayn.html The question in my mind was how valid were the specs, especially the very low lux rating. That was the main thing that was in question. As to why Rory doesn't like Toshibas I don't know. I am guessing an inferior pickup sensor? I don't know enough about sensors yet to know that answer.
  5. Thanks for the list. I will review it and make sure that I have everything done like that. I don’t’ know about IE though. I guess your just preventing easy access, but I couldn’t find where in the control panel I could enter a Domain name to access the internet if I did remove IE access?

You think he would be able to do that for the price range he is talking about? The lens itself would be pretty expensive. Maybe a cheap OEM camera?
  7. I don’t plan on reformatting. A reinstall of windows is really the only way to truly clean the system though. As I have slimmed down the system I have made a backup of the boot partition which I can use to restore an individual file or the entire partition if I need to. It’s just the best way to back up the system. It is especially handy if I do need to put the system right back to the way it was if I screw up while tweaking the system. Windows Restore doesn’t work properly. I always disable this so called feature. It’s helpful if that’s all you got, but if you have disk imaging software, you can’t beat it. I am suprised you running norton systemworks and getting 2% because that program is a resource hog.
  8. I did that already; I use Acronis True-Image and image the disk at least once a week. 4-6% isn't bad though, I have my email open, IE with Maxthon(adds tabs to the browser) equivalent of 6 browsers open, PowerDVD on Pause with a movie and Centerv running. I guess I can take my time researching the services. Believe me, it is running a whole lot faster. It was around 80 processes before and that was without any programs loaded. If feels like a new computer.
  9. I did get inspired to remove all the software on my own computer that was dramatically slowing down the system and it loads way faster. I just have to research the ton of services I have running and see which one I can do without to bring down the CPU usage some more. It’s running between 4-6% with 70 processes on my 2.53Ghz Dell with 1 GB memory, no swap file. _______________________________________________________________ Geo-server I wonder if adding the two cameras made that much difference. I added router software also, but that is nothing.
  10. I added more software and 2 more cameras after you were done, bad Jasper. Put Skype, No-IP. APC UPS software on their. With CenterV, WebCam, TCPIP running and remote playback sever it is running at 25% now. I don't think I had all the services running when we did the test? The cameras are set on motion detect also so it would be higher if some encoding was going on. I knew it wasn’t going to stay at 11% for long. I’m happy though, still got 75% left.

I would have done the same thing. I have one of those Sanyo Day/Night domes laying on the floor with the red wire pushed in the end of the power lead and the black wire taped to the outside grounding. It works. I didn’t have the adapters I needed to do it right.

Yeah, you can clearly see the difference. I hope I don't get that problem from using this cheap thin Siamese wire I got from XxxXxxx. I guess if I run it over one romex wire with electricity I can expect the same or worse?

Steve, Noticed you changed your signature line. Checked out your gallery you have some beautiful pictures in there. Did you take all those yourself? No I don't think so they are too perfect. Didn't look at all of them, but the Chicago River was a very nice photo.

Gunfire. You might want to up the budget a little bit. That product WirelessEye posted looks interesting. For the price range your taking about most wireless products wouldnt' even come close to meeting your needs. Don't know for sure, but WirelessEye would know, that is his speciality.
  15. Also: 1) What services are running in addition to the software? 2) What other programs are loaded and using CPU? 3) How many total threads? 4) How many processes? 5) Are you using a swap file? You would really need to create some type of standard test bench that would be used for each package to be tested. So the results are based on the performance what your trying to measure.
  16. Yep, you only need to create a folder in the root directory of each drive. Geo will create the subfolders for each cam and audio.

Hearing that specs are worthless is disheartening. If using the type of chip as the primary method of choosing a quality camera can you list some chip examples from best to worst? Why don’t you like Toshiba? Do they have a bad reputation for quality?

Welcome, I would suggest reading through the forum in the areas of interest. There is a lot of good information already there. There are many people with many different scenarios that maybe might answer those questions. Every install is a unique one so I can't really give you a generic answer. Check it out, and then if you have some questions regarding what you've read I am sure myself and others will try and help you out.

Geovision 1240 DSP Not Working Properly

That is a weird one. Have you seen the camera’s working before? Are you having any other problem displaying video? Media player, etc? Double checked all connections? Is there any other information you can provide to help you trouble shoot?

    Outdoor Camera Setup (Rookie-Need Help)

Sounds like a good black and white camera might be in order for you. I haven’t used this camera, but someone else on the board has one and I was impressed with it. It is a Speco CVC-325WPS it is in that price range, will work for want you want it to do. Do a search on Google. It is in the price range you specified.

    Price of Gas

Blow-Rabbit, No, not every president lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction, they haven’t had the opportunity. Every president tells a lot of lies. It comes with the job description. You really don’t expect the truth from any politician do you? Bush was going to be re-elected anyway. He was the lesser of the evils. John Kerry is an idiot. “Well I voted for the 80 billion dollars before I voted against it.â€

    SpeedBump Camera

Yeah, that really is a discrete way of getting license plates and a make on a car. Good demo, very clear shots of the car and plates. A lot of people try to go around those speed bumps though, but if they can’t, this bump will see them.
  24. Those camera shots you have are great. Very good examples. I am guessing with that lens you are probably getting down to .05 lux. That is getting down into the sensitivity range of BW camera. The last two pictures really show what a good lens will do for you. There would be no problem with that camera in a fairly well lit ****tail lounge or a dimly lit room for that matter.
  25. What is a good color bullet camera or box type that has a really low light requirement and has high resolution. I am looking for something like that with a varifocal lens. How low can they go on a lux rating for color that really means anything? I have one now that is .5 lux and it doesn’t work to good in dim light? Any recommendations, camera line to look into or a specific camera would be great.
