    True day & night??

Oh I haven't forgoten that, but I should have probably mentioned it. True Day/Night cameras cost more money, quite a bit more. Don't go cheap though. If you can't afford a Day/Night than use a BW camera.
  2. The place in NY doesn't have one in stock?
  3. Sounds like a nice video clip to post in the example DVR clips thread. You can name the DVR, etc, then post that clip. I haven't seen anything like that yet. It cost you a lot of money for that clip might as well share it.

    True day & night??

It will have an IR filter to filter out IR light when in the COLOR mode to keep the colors from distorting. The filter is removed when the camera switches into BW mode. There is a lot of posts on this subject I am surprised you didn't run accross any. Welcome to the forum.

Is auto back focus a rare feature on most CCTV cameras?

    gv 250 on win 98

Your that sure huh. Where do you come up with these odds My 1.2GHz is actually a Gateway Pentium II 400Mhz, which I updated with a slot CPU upgrade from PowerLeap. It had windows 95 on it when I bought it in 98.

    Desperate to buy a 4 camera/DVR system

After you really going to be able to cover all the areas needed to where you could actually prove the identity of the culprit.? Accomplishing this goal can get very expensive. Maybe motion lights or a cheap wireless sensor to activate an alarm. I have one of these on my porch. If anyone comes within range of the sensor I hear a loud beeping or alarm if I want. Just some other ideas.

    gv 250 on win 98

What hardware does he have? I was able to run XP on an old gateway that I used a CPU slot upgrade to bump it up to 1.2 Ghz. Ran fine. I am not taking into consideration the Card requirements.

    Unsecured Wireless Networks

If you setup the wireless security like I did from the link provided to me you should not have a problem. If that is too complicated you can use MAC address filtering which only allow the network cards you specify to access the router. Even if someone was able to access the internet through your internet connection there MAC address (Unique serial numbger of their network card) would show up. Thomas knows networking better than I do so maybe he can comment further on this subject to give you some peace of mind.

Time to upgrade to XP then if you want the newer features. Windows 98 isn't as stable anyway.

    geovision remote view questions

Can this be a Internet speed problem that is causing this slow playback? I can't even use the Remote Playback feature on a 384kbps upload connection at the DVR. It is useless at that speed, at least for me. I use CenterV to send clips at regular intervals to get an idea of what is going on at the location.

Funniest video I have seen lately!!

The second video was good. A dog walking on two legs, that's great. Most people would have put the dog to sleep.
  13. Legality issue I don't know about for sure so I don't want to comment. I would think it would be OK, but don't know for sure. Customizing something for your own purposes is a good thing to be able to do for your own personal touch to the product your putting out or how you like your system to operate. Do you have a link? I think I found it. Just want to make sure. I might try it out if it sound interesting.
  14. What kind of shells are you trying out Rory? Are you experimenting with some? Curious as always.

about geovosion pixeled image in multicam

When ever you increase the size of the orginal recording you are going to be distorting the image. Maybe something else changed like the foucs of a camera that leads you to believe this wasn't happening before?
  17. File : 309 KB (309 KB), duration: 0:00:10, type: AVI, 0 audio stream(s), quality: 34 % Video : 307 KB, 251 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 384*288 (4:3), IV50 = Intel Indeo R5.1, Supported Anyway, that is the codec needed to view that clip.
  18. What cameras would like you to own or play with if you could afford anything you wanted? Some examples would be: Thermal Imaging Cameras, Cameras military uses on their predator drone planes, helicopter cameras and night vision cameras. It would be interesting to see what people have come across in the way of exotic cameras. Tell us what you like about the camera. What special features do they offer? Post a link to the camera specifications or other information regarding the camera. This should be an interesting thread if people participate.

Exotic Cameras if Money Were No Object

Very good link. Clear picture, with that many pixels and that is the type of zoom you can achieve. Amazing.

    Geovision ver 8.0

It saves space and is a good choice for low speed connections using webcam. I was disappointed with H.264 because my reference has always been with high quality, such as DVD. These higher compression codecs are just making an already low quality image much worse. It all depends on what is most important to you, quality or saving hard drive space. Since hard drive space is getting cheaper all the time I pick quality. Welcome to the forum by the way.

    Software on Pc and laptop

Oh OK. Found out how to do it. After you get your task manager on your screen you right click on VNC on the taskbar and choose full screen again and this shrinks the screen back to its default screen size.

    Software on Pc and laptop

No I didn't mean my task bar, which I have stay on the bottom all the time. I meant how to get out of the full screen VNC session on the remote machine. So far the only way I have been able to do it is to do ALT+CTRL+DEL which activates the task manager and allows me to see my task bar. I thought maybe there was a keystroke toggle that would do it for me?

    Software on Pc and laptop

Learn something new everyday. I went full screen on the free version also, but how the heck do you get it to go back to the smaller size so you can see your own desktop or task bar?

    Software on Pc and laptop

You will have to scroll a little bit up/down and left/right even at the same resolution.

    Software on Pc and laptop

You won't get the screen quality with VNC, but on the other hand you won't have to worry about forgetting to sync or update the files, plus that hassle.
