You are still gonna have to contact the owner of the DVR to get the password then if we know more then maybe we can give more help. But until that happens you are stuck with knowing that you are on the dvr and not much can be done with out the owners help. These things are designed for security reasons to be secure.
  2. herictopia Goodluck in your ventures just make sure you check the laws for the state you are in its not bad on the prices for each item just the total package. Also the need is there for the state to control things we have had fly by nighters put cameras in places that are not allowed and looks bad on all installers until it comes out about them not being ligit. You see it on the news about someone taping girls and women in tanning booths and other places.

I am sorry but I have to ask a question. You borrowed a digital video recorder and did not think it would record what you were doing? You sure you did not get caught doing something on a dvr and you want to hide it. Not much of a friend that will not remove it for you.
  4. Well the state I work in you have to have a state cttv license commerical license and insurance on your company auto, pay workmans comp insurance, unemployment insurance, and if your company has over 5 people counting yourself health insurance and liabilty insurance and if you work around schools drug testing and performance bonds. Now you pay all of that and you get leftovers that the IRS does not take. Now you wonder why we can sell for the same price as Sams or Costco plus state mandated training classes.

Scott it is time to stop this I respect you for your time you gave to the military and the job you had. That would have been fun to play with toys that the general public will not see for several years. But I went into public service field and still work as a fulltime firefighter 56 hours a week and work for a security company 40 hours a week and have been in both lines of work over 25 years with hands on electronic school for 2 years in 1979 and starting in 1983 yearly training in the security industry. I also hold several state certifications that also have to have continuing education (Medical , Fire Service , and Security) so I am educated I nitpick things as much as you do but the fact is not all companies can afford the high dollar test tools there are a few tools on the market but they are still way out of the price of most companies. The best tools for the job are spectrum anolizers but the cost is the problems. We can only use spec sheets and picture quality when it comes to systems. We test all new equipment at our shop to see if it works like advertised or in the envirment we want to use it in. Enough about me and you the question has been answered time to drop it and focus on people needing help. Buddy

Scott your post Posted: Sat Jun 13, 2009 7:00 pm Post subject: Okay then, let's bring it back on topic. Instead of theoreticals, tell us exactly how to use VLC to determine the TVL of our cameras. I'm sorry, sometimes I think analogies are easier for people to understand. Other than that I dont deal in theoreticals, I fix and create what's already been built. I'm no engineer. 1. Take your camera and equip it with its appropriate usb adapter. 2. Plug said usb adapter into your computer. 3. Open your latest version of vlc. 4. follow this link http://www.videolan.org/doc/play-howto/en/ch03.html 5. "Specifically" search for "Play from an acquisition card" and treat your security camera just as you would a webcam you had no driver for. Or in other words no driver...no options to configure. (hey isn't that what part of this discussion is about? Software limitations....wierd) 6. Just remember VLC has no set display resolution unless you've configured it that way. It uses the default input to determine resolution. Which means if your desktop display is set to low resolution and your using a high resolution camera...alt + f4 lol. You say the hardware is irrelevant nope never did. show me where i said that. please. Soundy wrote: tell me how I'm going to get the signal from the camera into my computer so I can view it in VLC. I have a number of different analog cameras to test this with. I have several computers with Windows XP Pro and the latest version of VLC. You can test following my instructions above. Come on now, it's put-up-or-shut-up time.

Rick it is IP so how long is the network wire what color scheme on the network wire did you use and did you use cat 6 or cat 5 wire IP video you need to use top line parts also how much traffic is on this network and are you looking from the lan side or the wan side over the internet most ISP's only give you 512 (1/2 meg) upload speeds and IP video can be 3 meg or higher per camera.

    10 km Camera view

Good luck on getting any State Fire Marshalls Office or the NFPA to aprove any fire alarm system based on video and software or that has not been UL tested and listed. You are better off sticking with equipment that has been designed and tested for the purpose of fire detection and life safety. This applies in the USA if not in the USA please check your countries fire detection governing body.

4-2. Factory Default Before first operation, you must set Time/Date, set FACTORY DEFAULT, and then clear HDD, even though it is brand new one. It is to make DVMR system and HDD ready for proper operation. Starting recording without FACTORY DEFAULT setting and HDD clear will cause malfunction. 1. HDD CLEAR 2. FACTORY DEFAULT Refer to page 22. Refer to page 31. I have the manual in pdf i can send it if I have a email address

  14. limprod are you trying to replace a burg alarm with a all in one solution using a dvr? Security systems are like cars the more room and the better the ride the more the cost. A escort will not have the options as a expedition. You should base your system on the value of what you want to protect.

Need help designing a new system(s)

Matt welcome to the security industry and the forum you said Virgina I went to some security classes with a man from there and remember him stating he worked in a state the required state licenesse if you have not got yours or checked your state laws please do so. You also have the option to use outside cat 5 or cat 6 and run to the poles like the telephone linse just check with your local power or phone company before doing so. Also here is the like to the state law site. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+9.1-138
  16. Like it is stated above look at the time check mark for the login and see if it is checked. You can set what time and how long a user logs on to the system. You can log into the system anytime busy or not it does not mater still I hard coded IP addresses that way nothing ever changes does the router have any time constrictions in it for traffic how about a firewall. I have set several of these up like this and had no problems.
  17. Are you sure you have the DVR address set to a static address or does the router set the address. If it is set to obtain address automaticly then you need to set an address that works with your network.

    Dual purpose NVR/Access Control PC

Like stated before you should not have any problems. But you need to think about upgrades to the video later and you could be using up some of the server I still like the NVR to be just that and use xp pro on a desktop to run the 600 controller as it only needs to talk when you do reports or add users. I just like having my DVR NVR used just for that one task. Most people when they use the video they want more something to think about.

Scott we can do this for ever I started my education in 1979 I still go to schools to this day I live in a state that requires by law to be state licenesseed and to display that thats why I link our web site I build all of our DVRs NVRs desktops from scratch and no this this not the only thing I do I chose not to own a busness for presonal reasons but thats not up for discussion as for the forum rules I had to be cleared to use the tag for the website and we have yet to sell any items. And if you want to test systems FM SYSTEMS sells nice test tools that are made for the job not the noname ebay equipment you sell good luck I have no more time to waste on you. Pay for a banner add here become a respected member and good luck.

    DRV and Multiplexor problem

Soundy you are correct about the best and most cost effective choice now would be a new mux that allows loop through as it would cost more to replace the cameras to get what you need.

Scott Broscious Sir as far as me I was in a 2 year electronics school in 1979 that I finished I have worked in this industry for 25 years. You advertise your website on your post and that takes away from the sellers that pay the admins here for advertising. I on otherhand do not sell over the internet or do work outside of my state but I do offer free help to people because I am a nice person and the proline equipment you sell tells me all I need to know about you.
