  1. Thanks for the replies. Did you store the pig tail within the base or did you feed the rj45 connector through the wall?

One other question i had was around cctv in general. There are no other houses on my street with cctv (some dont even have alarms). Would getting cctv that is clearly visible (i cannot conceal it at all) draw attention to my house and make it more appealing to a would be burglar as they may think i have more to protect or have the opposite effect?

I did run pig tail inside the wall

  2. Hi

I am looking to purchase a couple of the new Hikvision exir turrets (DS-2CD2342WD-I). Because of the way my porch is i have no option but to mount these low down and within arms reach. This means the wall mount that is sold for this camera (ds-1273zj-130-trl) is not an option because the head of it can be unscrewed by hand very easily so one snip of the cat5 cable and they'd be off with my camera. This means i have to mount the cameras directly to the wall but one chap at a cctv store i spoke to said you shouldn't do this because the base is not water proof and you could get rain water inside the base. Has anyone wall mounted their cams or had any issue with rain water inside the base?

    Thanks

    Have a look

  3. In my honest opinion, anything that goes through a 3rd server (as in no-direct IP connection) is a potential threat and a privacy problem. And, also, a proof of laziness or lack of knowledge.

    Well, what do you think?

Did anyone really pentest or monitor the devices or the solutions that they are using/installing? We're talking about devices that stream HD/FullHD/4k[or more] detailed images/video streams. Or the "open" world out there means no privacy at all?

The same can be sad about any online storage

    Dropbox

    Google drive and etc....

    Right?

  4. If so, can third party software be used instead with their NVRs and work fully with their systems? Are Hikvision and Dahua NVRs and cameras ONVIF compliant? Is there really any great need for them to be ONVIF compliant? What I'm looking for is software that is easy to use and provides a very good interface.

    Avigilon

Well, ak357, after I read your comment, I decided to do a little research online. I couldn't find a direct answer as to who makes FLIR's cameras, but I did come across some information. Let me take a wild guess. Hikvision, the world’s leading supplier of video surveillance products and solutions, makes FLIR NVRs and cameras. That would be my guess. Am I correct? I noticed that a certain model Hikvision NVR looks very similar to one of FLIR's NVRs. If Hikvision does in fact supply NVRs and IP cameras to FLIR I would be a fool to buy FLIR branded products when I can get the exact same products from Hikvision for far less money.

    You are on right track

    and about me

    I do live in Canada

  6. Name calling is not permitted on this forum please stop. You are the one calling me a fool and a nut job and then have the nerve to tell me that you are ashamed of me? Are you serious? Seems like you followed my prediction to a T. Not one of your irrelevant links supports your position that you can legally dual boot. Until you post a cite from Microsoft ANYTHING you link to or say (regardless of how long your manifesto reads) is irrelevant. There was no mention of edits here. Not sure what you are talking about - you ok?

    Booogiieee....

    I am confused?

In your opinion what is He saying or doing wrong?

    sound OK for me

  7.

It's obvious that the IR light is being caught by something but it seems very difficult to prevent. Tomorrow I can try cleaning the actual sensor with a photographic lens brush as well as cleaning the IR lamps, but it seem unlilkely that dirt could have got inside.

Here is your problem and solution

  8. Thanks all for the replies! I've just received the camera and I quickly powered it up to see what it is capable of and I gotta say it is absolutely day and night difference than anything else that is out there.

Can't wait to have the camera mounted and put into actual use soon! I also have a Avigilon PTZ 2 MP coming and should be another piece of interesting equipment

I am just a regular home user but work in the tech industry so I have a special affinity towards well built and designed products. Glad to see that in the day and age of commoditization from offshore vendors, there is still a very strong contender from Canada shaping the industry!

    Glad you like it!

    Which model did you get?

  9. As the subject line states I was left with three Norelco SafeCAM SC-304D-TVI cameras and no DVR when we bought the house. I am looking for a suggestion on an inexpensive DVR that will work with these camera. The specifications are as follows

    HDTVI Technology

    True Day/Night

    2.8 - 12mm Vari focus lens

    OSD menu

    3D DNR

    Smart IR

    Thanks for the help

    Where do u live ?

  10. Greetings everyone - this is my first post and I look forward to learning the ins and outs of the CCTV world from all the pros here. I've recently purchased an Avigilon 5MP HD Bullet camera and I can't wait for it to arrive to begin the install. I've a few questions that need clarification:

    - Do I have to use standalone software (avigilon or third party) for video recording or can I point it directly to my NAS? I have a very powerful FreeNAS system with storage dedicated to IP Camera recording

    Yes

    - If WIFI signal is strong, I can use a WIFI bridge with Avigilon cameras for areas without Ethernet cables?

    YES

What else do u want to know?

  12. Hi,

    Current situation:

    DVR 8 Channels

    6 Cameras

    Video output: Composite (BNC)

    Monitors: 3

Client wants new HDSDI/HDCVI system from brand Hikvision/Dahua

So that means for the screens: DVR > high resolution (1080P) true composite (BNC) > monitor.

Is this possible? If not what are the best options for the monitors? Network + viewer? The client can't pull new cables in his house.

    I think it's a common problem

    Please advice

HDTVI are available also with composite output

  13. Hello All, I've struggle with my quest to get a system that is capable of reading a license plate at night with a distance from license plate to camera of about 25 ft. I've bought many systems, Lorex IP 1080p systems, DVR/NVR systems with HD cameras as well as specialized cameras designed to read license plate at night (LPR cameras). The problem I'm having is that it's either too blurry to read (even in day time) or the license plate is just one big rectangular glow, even after adjusting various BLC/HLC settings. I've mounted the cameras about 9 ft high pointing to the street at about 30 degree angle. Does anyone have a good setup that they can share. Please be specific as to what brand of nvr / cameras you have and the adjusted settings to compensate for distance and lighting. Thank you very much.
