  1. So gonna start by saying what I have tried just to prevent people posting about stuff that does not fit my needs

    1. Blueiris, no windows phone app, no external event support (as far as im aware) but I do like the one small payment approach
    2. Xprotect Essentials, its free for 8 cameras, but Milestone in their horrible money grabbing ways force you to have a 5 second nag screen on smart client, for what they would call a small upgrade, 8 extra cameras, and some support contract for the low price of (put your coffee down) £400 a year, I wouldnt mind but at least let me turn off your naggy prompt, I wont be giving them any money also no Windows phone app
    3. Axxon Next, Windows phone app is nice change, but free version only does 4 cameras and they dont seem to want business as have no way to buy it without going thorugh some other 3rd party company (companies are stupid doing that if you ask me) so despite liking it from the demo lack of being able to actually buy it prevented me
    4. Zoneminder, No
    5. Synology DSM, not software NVR so requires a seperate nas unit despite having a home server sitting unused with loads of storage, camera licences are to lunch and back and the web interface is nasty if you ask me

So now onto my needs to see if someone here can recomend me something I can actually buy, has what I want preferable windows based but am ok with Linux

    • Software not hardware NVR
    • Cheap or free and would like to avoid per camera fees as they drive me crazy with rage
    • Min 8 camera support
    • External alarm events, either through a HTTP call or through camera I/O
    • Supports range of cameras, Panasonic, JVC, Axis, Hikvision, Dedicated Micros, all cameras I have or plan to use but not many software supports all of them them especially some of the pro brand which dont support ONVIF
    • Windows Phone app would be nice but can live without as long as I can get a MJPEG feed from it to use in some other app

is there anything that fits the criteria?, or maybe someone can point me in direction to where I can buy Axxon in UK as it looks quite hopeful

sorry for the ranty post but want to upgrade from analogue system but if you ask me all the NVR solutions out there are just about scamming the buyer with per camera licensing, never had this with analogue, imagine buying a 32 camera DVR but only being able to use 2 inputs until you pay some ungodly fee per extra camera

thats just my 2 cents, maybe someone has a link to some golden NVR solution not on first 5 pages of google

    Avigilon

Yes, u will have to pay for lic

but you will be happy with software

  2. No big deal to do. You just need to connect your POE switch directly the the second NIC Card. Give the 2nd NIC card a different IP address. So if your main network is 192.168.1.x, make 2nd 192.168.0.x. You will then have to change your IP cameras to 192.168.0.x. This is really the way IP systems should be set up, segregating camera traffic to its own network.

You probably want to say different subnet

  3. Hello All: I am working on a big surveillance system project of designing the Internet network & IP camera system for a 6000 m2 factory. After determining the optimal angles and placement for 110 IP cameras (bullet & dome), I faced the tough question of designing the supporting infrastructure, and want to look for expert's insights. Here are the issues:

    1. Should I share the internet network (a gigabit internet backbone and various branched wireless routers/switches for 40 office staffs with light internet usage, mostly email) with the surveillance video network for 110 IP cameras + 4 NVR (low quality settings with approximately 2 mbps traffic)?

By my calculation, the cameras system will take 220 mbps bandwidth and leave the 780 mbps bandwidth rest for internet traffic. However, with constant data flows between IP cameras and NVR, I am worried the performance of the internet network will be significantly affected.

    2. I plan to use POE for all the cameras HIKVISION DS-2CD2020F-I , with POE power inputted from Switch TP-LINK TL-SL2428P . Is it a good idea, or should I go with 12V DC for every IP camera? Again, I am worried about the stability of the system as a whole. In theory, the switch is capable of supplying up to 220 W so it should be sufficient for these 5,8 W cameras.

    3. With the scale of the system and all the risks mentioned, should I go with analogue option instead for better stability?

    I greatly appreciate any advice.

Put all HIK NVR on separate subnet and you done

  4. So which Avigilon version would you recommend? I just want the basics for a 12 camera system: camera activated motion recording for 15 days, app for iPhone and Android, run on a T20 Xeon at ~25% CPU, no annual fees, Hikvision camera drivers, motion based recording search capability and Windows based software that is supported for more than a year or two.

And where do I buy Avigilon?

Have a look at pic and decide

    Where are you located?

  5. I'm beginning to think Milestone is not for me. I've been running a Dell T20 based server system with 12 Hikvision cameras and Milestone XProtect Essential 2014. Lately, I'm having some issues that seem to be Windows compatibility based. Maybe if I left my Windows system alone and not updated it, things would be stuck in time and still stable. But, I need to update Milestone or get something else.

Milestone is offering a special (50% discount) to go to XProtect Express. That's valid until the end of 2016. Since my upgrade expired 9/2016, the special deal will cost me $504 for a 12 camera system. That gets me a 3 year upgrade plan. I already have $600 into Milestone software and I've been running for just over a year.

This is just a home security system but I don't want to have to pay fees every year to keep my system running. Anyone else want to whine about paying annual fees with me?

    Check Avigilon

  6. Hi there

Building a new home and looking for some sleek recessed small cameras to mount in plaster ceiling such as the Axis M3014 (http://www.axis.com/au/en/products/axis-m3014).

Are these any good? can you recommend other cameras? do any recessed cameras come with IR?

Hi. The axis is still a large 4inch dome ...... Some turret cameras are smaller

For home use and the price you are looking at take a look at the small avigilon .... Less than half of calling space of the axis

Also when people use in calling mounts it's a big hole .... If you can't match the camera in a few years after fail then it's more work to fill the hole.

Also as there inside your home avigilon is more secure .... Hik and other domestic systems have p2p or cloud which is not good for home privacy

These come in 1 or 2mp

    +1 for Avigilon

  7. Howdy,

I'm an Alderman in a small town < 2000. We have a small park - 2blocks by 1 block. Our security system is antiquated - Underground wiring degrading, old equipment, poor quality images. We are considering a wireless system to transmit to City Hall about a block and 1/2 away. There is a clear line of site. What direction should I go for a system? TIA for your professional input.

    IP cams and IP radios

    How is your tech ability?

  8. I'm having some issues with one of IP cameras, they are running at 720P since I can't afford the storage for all my cameras, I got some serious power outage which led the backup battery to shutdown, after that, one of my cameras came back with some purpleish tint that wont go off even playing with it's settings and resetting it. It's not really a cheap camera, it did cost me about U$90, goes up to 1080P has varifocal lens, IR-Cut and IR up to 60 meters, it's also water and sun proof.

The quality also dropped considerably, but it works great when the IR kicks in, here is a short comparison: (Sorry for the pic size, took it from my phone from the lower quality stream)

Do I have to buy another one? Thanks

    After the problem:

power down and power up the cameras

    and see if its help

  9. I work for a public school system and the camera system is kind of a mess. Several boxes, Bosch Divar MRs, are dead. Multiple software platforms creates a viewing headache for administration and security. Replacing all the cameras is too costly; the runs have been professionally run across a large school campus and is just not feasible to change right now.

Shifting to a unified software platform. If that is not possible, then I'd like to consider options to use the existing cameras and change the DVR boxes to a uniform platform. Research led me to see Tribirds or PC Capture cards as an option. If I can prepare the system to transition to IP cameras as they break that would be ideal. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

P.S. Only one Honeywell unit in our system, each box is a 16 channel DVR. They are not all in one location but in several rooms across the campus on several floors with switches located nearby.

    Currently the system is:

    Bosch 670

    Bosch 630

Bosch Divar MR Majority are these and they are dead.

    Bosch 5000

    Honeywell HRGX162

    Get Avigilon Analog encoders ( http://avigilon.com/products/video-surveillance/encoders/ )

then later u can slowly move to IP

in mean time you will have Hybrid system

  10.

I'm making some assumptions here, but if his machine is linux embedded (good chance of that), and those four pins are in fact a uart (also a good chance), he can get in, and extract firmware and possibly analyze it to get the pass he needs. For example, on my nightowl, the primary binary that operates the web server (and I think the ui you get when you plug in a monitor directly, not 100% sure on that) has some hard-coded passwords you simply cannot change without modifying the binary. maybe his does to, I don't know, and won't know untill we have that look.

I just send to him info how to rest password with Remote control

    if He has one
