  1. Hi there,

Even with all my CCTV and burglary experience, I am at a lost with this application.

Remote home that has been repeatedly burglarized.  The last one, doors and electrical wirings were removed.

Issue is owners are in the US while this problem child is in Island of Utila, Honduras.

No dependable neighbors; No power; no internet; barely cell signals from Tigo.

To prevent further pillage, I guess solar power....

Ideally, would like to see video feeds from US!

Given current disposition, cost is a concern but not a major deterrent.

Can you give some ideas, please?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Optiplex 790 VMS server with 3TB second drive is not enough for video storage.

We need to get 6TB+ in some form of Raid 1 or 5. Don’t mind spending $$$$$ as long as we can still use this when we upgrade to high-end server in about a year.

IUSB 3.0 card going to external USB 3.0 drives? External NAS? Need immediate solution.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do? Thanks for your input.

  3. I am in Houston.

1st Facility is in Beaumont, TX; (4) more facilities in Orange, La Porte, Baytown, and Lake Charles, La - same identical configuration.

They actually fell in love with the Mobotix. But assimilating these (32) existing Pelcos is not an option with Mobotix.

I know the pricing of Avigilon VMS.

How about Exacqt, Axis and Milestone?

    Thanks

  4. Need to figure if this project is within customer's budget.

Existing 32 analog with (8) 241Q. Need to add (16) IP MP (demoed Mobotix, Sanyo 3300, Avigilon IP Dome). Customer to decide based on software info.

Since Mobotix is not an viable option,

What is the existing retail pricing and renewal for:

    ***Milestone

    ***Avigilon

    ***other suggestion?

Large oil field production facility with at least (9) clients eagle-eying the facility.

    Thanks guys.

  5. I've got a few ideas, but thought maybe someone else has been there and done that, maybe learned a few lessons I don't have to.

I have a client that lives in a rural area, who's only entrance is a road prone to flooding. He'd like an advanced warning of high water level. This road is aprx 1000' away (have not completed site survey yet). He originally thought of cameras, which we'll install regardless... but I was thinking a better, more proactive and instantaneous alert of high water... Not something he'd have to anticipate and be watching on a screen somewhere. I thought of water sensors... pretty common for basements, around water heaters and pumps. However what I'm looking for would be wireless, and be designed for outdoors.

I thought of ridding something up from Inovonics and Winland... Or I could do something real simple like an irrigation rain sensor. I'd just have to do a little rigging on this and prevent it from triggering with rain and only rising flood water.

I just need something to wirelessly transmit a NO/ NC signal to the DVR, which will text message the client.

    Any better ideas? Still researching...

We have several customers in the Fredericksburg, TX areas that road flooding is normal way of life.

Waterbugs powered by Solar and Inovonics (great stuffs - all of our banks wireless panic, optex wirless PE beams...are supervised by Inovonics.) We simply mount them on the Outer Fence Posts. 5 years, later, if they drive through water, we would have heard from them.

  6. bpzle-

Thanks for being upfront with your thoughts and experience. I see your are located in TX. I'm in SW Louisiana. Can you go one step further and recomend anything to start with in this price range or any company that could help? I don't know, if i went to a security type company, maybe $600 would only buy a recomendation to go internet shopping. Anything would help at this point. My wife and I need to do something, we just don't have the funds to do it 'right' at this point.

    Joe

    I agree with bpzle 100000%.

Experts here would cringe what I am about to say next. In day light, $600 would barely get you a CNB day/night and quality (4) channel DVR. But I doubt that will do you any good.

Best thing to do, within your budget, is to put up (2) GVI outdoor housings with broken cameras/lens in it. Back it up with high-quality motion sensor lights (as many as needed to clearly light your cars up). Make sure the outdoor housings are clearly visible to the offender.

  7. How do CCTV cameras work?

I'm an amateur on cameras, but I want to get a setup in my neighbourhood. I'd like some wireless PTZ Network Camera that can go a long distance with a decent video streaming quality to my PC.

    1. How do the cameras run? What is the power source?

    2. Which one would be ideal to get?

    3. What would I need to get the full setup running?

    4. Once it is running, would I view the video stream via a web browser? Or software application?

How does it all work? I can't connect wires everywhere from the camera to the router, so how do they run? Where can I get one/them?

    Please explain

I have helped with (2) of those projects with high-end analog PTZs, cameras.... The last one was three years ago. Cost was over $300K for 32 cameras, wires, NVT baluns, (4) symdecs, (8) bosch 20" lcd....

  8. I can't speak for avermedia but the nuuo mini is a a nice product but might not be the best chose for use with megapixel cameras because of the total bandwidth limit.

thewireguys - educate me what to look for regarding "total bandwidth"?

  9. Between the two low end Avermedia and Nuuo, if you have to pick one and your reputation depends on it, which would you select? The cameras are (2) Sanyo HD3500 and (2) Sanyo 4600.

    Avermedia EXR6004 vs Nuuo 2040.

With either of these, what issues will I face?

    Thanks for your expertise.

  10. Why are you talking him into a PC based DVR...?

CDN$2300 for a 16ch @60fps system computer, I think that is way too expensive :o

    $250-$400 PC, choose the card

I guess my question wasn't clear; what I meant is why are you pointing him to a PC based DVR, and not a standalone DVR?

My ex company averages (1) analog CCTV jobs a week. I asked and the feeback I received has been Digital Watchdog. They are priced right and customer support is extremely good. For the past 3 years, they have stopped using Pelco of the high-end job, Dedicated Micros for mid-end job, speco and digimerge for low-end job and now just use solely the DW line. So far they have not had one returned.

  11. Have you figured all the time you have spent on the swan? Multiply that by your average hourly. Perhaps you could have bought a better DVR?

Even sold at Fry and the Swan offers such incredible service, do you think the Chinese DVR manufacturer would offer better service. I hope the best of luck to you. Keep us updated.

  12. When I was in the business, I worked for a company that uses ADI as the primary supplier. Due to the company purchase power, their prices were the low. Being on the field, I love them. Something is wrong, instant exchange. They even send the parts (after the 1st 30 days) for you.

Like anything else, customer service comes with higher price. Your choice to purchase from a car dealer that don't have the parts in stock or no instant exchange or purchase from a full-stock dealer.

  13. What you could do too is caulk around the dome cover and around the base once its been mounted and adjusted. In some cases I caulk around the base of the outdoor domes anyway especially if its mounted sideways on a wall with exposure to direct rain or if the wall is not 100% flat.

I have done these for customers who signed the rider stating yada yada...

Use the GE clear Silicone. Except for Ike, all are them are still working.

  14. I have a customer that wants to utilize PTZ's with Auto-Tracking, I have not personally used any of these units and was hoping for some feedback on different units. I also am curious as to what recording equip that you have used to with the Autotracks, if you had any issues getting them to work well together? Have looked at the Everfocus, as well as the upper end like Bosh. Looking for experiences good or bad. I was planning on using these in addition to fixed cameras, not as the only unit. I always felt that they were more of a "Hail Mary" type of unit. That you could get the perfect shot with it, or you might miss something all together because the unit was tracking someone else while the incident you need to record was happening. Thanks,

This is the biggest issue with auto-tracking: unless it's driven by some VERY advanced analytics, with a LOT of programming by the user on how that particular user wants to prioritize things, it really has no way of knowing what object the user would really want it to track.

Frankly, I think auto-tracking is largely a gimmick and I suspect unless you dump six figures into it, the customer would end up being disappointed at best, frustrated at worst, with the results.

A better idea would be a panoramic high-megapixel camera that simply records everything around it and lets you zoom in after the fact, wherever you want.

    +1

I have installed Bosch and Panasonic. It was an embarrassment when the Bosch missed a UPS truck driving into the driveway. The truck was 40 feet away from the dome.

  15.

So this is all due to not mechanical IR cut filter.

So if IR illuminator like the Bosch FLED60 is used, order (2) night lens? But wouldn't that negate the 3mp of day?

No you would not use the LPF model unless you ONLY want to see license plates.... you would order the normal day/night version

    Sorry I misdirected you.

What I meant is if Bosch IR Illuminator is used, then need (2) night lens? But if that is the case, since the night lens is only 1MG, lost out on 3mp?
