  1. Dude did you come right with the card? you dont have a full view of it but studying make me think its a Alnet 4ch 30fps card...they normaly need a dongle to make them work. Go check it out at http://www.alnet.com or do a google search under Alnet.

The 4 swithes is your video terminators and the yellow plug is for a video output to a monitor

The card says 4ch 120FPS? (edit: oh, 30FPS per camera duh!) It looks like a generic card to me... which could be what Allnet are.

  2. you need lower version firmware for the gv600 8.4and 8.5 has got new firmware updates for the newer cards which is pci express.

ill have a look on their website and in the office for older software.

but look at their website aswell . hAVE a look at http://www.ezcctv.com gv600 run with ver 2.and 3 software your pc will need to be downgraded to xp or 2000 aswell.

our gv600/650 run on 2000 and xp

GEOVISION IS THE BEST BY FAR.

From top to bottom you're wrong in all departments. So let's get on with the corrections shall we and help this poor bloke out.

Make sure the firmware for the card is 3.20 or above (this might be what the guy above is referring to) so that you're able to integrate 8.4.0 with your GV600. Lower versions will not work with 8.4. Additionally, Geovision 8.5 doesn't even exist

GV600's run perfectly well with Windows 7.

Lay off the ganja homie. Providing incorrect and misleading advice is unhelpful at best.

I used demonoid to download my GV software and ended up with a buncha zips

demonoid being demonoid It could be that it's a self extracting zip so if you extract the first it will pull the rest with it. I've usually only seen that done with .rars but I know it's possible to do it with zips as well. Try extracting the initial file and see what happens. Also try local.zip. Failing that... try here

  3. Hello,

80 to 100 units of what ? Cameras/Access Control/Turnstiles/Time&Attendence Macines or what, Please be specific with the requirement.

If it is of 80 - 100 IP Cameras, then you can consult me as I have recently deployed a system of 48 IP Cameras.

    Regards,

    MeeM

It is obvious the original poster is talking about the number of apartment units the property has.

330am posting :*( Not so obvious then!

  4. ok, great info but, who are you? it would be nice to give some sort of background about your company and what you've done in the past rather than out right giving me your fee schedule.

You should take this advice to heart. What are YOU bringing to the deal? Who are YOU?

He's bringing an 80-100 camera job to the table. I'd guess that you'd get into that sort of detail if you prove that you can suit his job requirements. He's hiring you, not the other way around. He doesn't need to tell you anything just yet... just sayin'

  5. Possibly... but no different than someone ordering a steak at a restaurant from a vegetarian waiter/tress.

As I was saying... if someone has called up and said "I would like 4 Arecont 5155DNs or 10 Vivotek IP7361's etc... then all he has to do is order it.

It's obviously a new camera for him hence why he's asking now, after the orders have been placed.

I agree with that they should know about the licenses on the VMS though.

  6. A mac address is a unique identifier for a piece of hardware on a network. Think of your IP as being your phone number and your MAC address as being your postal address.

You can change your phone number to your house, but you cant change your street address.

  7. Hi.

I just sold few of these cameras, but i have not ever used those before. Any opinion, good or bad picture quality?

Does these take 4 ip camera licenses or only 1 when connected nvr?

    Thx.

So you sold some of these and you have never used one before?

Could have been an order of... I would like x amount of camera y. No need to sell someone on something else if they're already set on what theyre buying.

  8. Survtech... you mentioned earlier that you believe a decent PTZ can take the place of many megapixel IPs. With the current DPTZ capabilities of both analytics software and the resolution of the cameras themselves.... on what basis do you make this statement? Not having a go, just curious as to why you believe that a PTZ (which can surely only focus on 1 thing at a time, can do a better job of a high res camera which you can pick and choose what you want to zoom in on without losing the overall picture)

  9. My company started off way back when as computer engineering firm. ALong the way somewhere we were asked at some point to install some security cameras and we sort of moved on from that. We started using video servers like Etrovisions about 15 years ago and dedicated IP cameras about 8-10 years ago (I just pulled out some ACTi 5120's from one of our early sites a month ago) Thankfully we have a strong background in networking to be able to support all models of IP which is why we deal almost exclusively in IP based products here in Aus because we know how to reconfigure networks and yada yada.

To answer the OP. The security industry is much like the PC industry in the 90's when you blinked and the technology had advanced 10 fold overnight. Most of the guys who install security stuff at the moment are those who plug in cables and everything worked. Now a days, you can't just do that with IP based products. You need to ensure that the network infrastructure is in place as well and it's this part that is WELL beyond most installers currently.

However, customers still need to procure the products. They still need someone with expertise in where to install the products and they still need someone to install the products. IT guys are suits, they don't want to get their hands dirty. They also have their own stuff to look after as well rather than maintaining a physical security system.

If you are able to do both, then in my opinion you shouldn't need to worry. And there will still be a market for low end products but that market will increasingly shrink. (I think AXIS released a white paper recently showing that IP installations are now about 15% cheaper than non-IP) Show someone the difference between an megapixel and a SD analog, and you can wax lyrical all day long about the SD analog but at the end of the day the customer will still be staring at the megapixel image going... WOW that's amazing!

Additionally, most new buildings are already CAT6 wired for data so the overall infrastructure cost of a new IP based security system is going to be significantly smaller and 1 megapixel camera can take the place of 2 or 3 SD analogs. All this makes it much more attractive to go megapixel IP than coax stuff.

Of course my market here in Aus is in education campuses and retail, so I don't have the same problems that some of you guys do with small margins on small jobs. Throw access control into that as well and its a nice little niche market that hasn't been flooded out yet (it will, but not yet).

PS Soundy, is your website down? ***EDIT*** Nvm, looks like I just checked it inbetween you pulling it down and putting the new temp one up.

  10. I have a job at a school where someone is illegally dumping rubbish on the playground at night. In order to do this they need a key so the principal thinks its a staff member.

Unfortunately, the dump site is about 100m (300 odd ft) from the nearest building to mount the camera and as its at night, I need an IP camera with an IR range of 100m.

    Suggestions?

  11. around the same time the lines started, had you updated geovision software?

could be counterfeit if that sounds familiar.

Geo usually waves a big fat THIS IS COUNTERFEIT alert in your face for counterfeit rather than messing with your feeds. Ground loops are usually the cause of the horizontal lines. Tracking them down is usually a long and tedious task.

  12. Hi there.

I have this little project that I'm a bit excited about now. I want to stream a live camera from my balcony. I happen to live in a tiny ass apartment but with a beautiful view of the city. Just started doing my search today but there are so many brands and all have their own specific purposes mainly CCTV.

I'm not worried about the installation and forwarding ports, because i feel confident in that area.

To keep it short, here is what i would like to have at this point of time so that I at least know what to want:

    - Ip cam

    - At least HD 720

    - Nice colors

    - Decent night time display, streets are fairly illuminated

    - Wide angle lens

    - Temperatures vary from -5 to 40 Celsius. Having said that, the camera will be exposed to direct sunlight, heavy winds and rain.

Obviously, would like to keep the costs down to about 300-350$ for all this goodness (I really hope you dont just laugh and walk away )

So, any ideas what to look at? So far I've checked out Dlink and Microseven websites really close, however would like to see what pros would say.

Below is the time lapse of the same street i've done with my GoPro the other day. Unfortunately the battery died when it started getting dark, but it should give you an idea about illumination.

You say its for online viewing. What's your upload speed and do you have data limits?
