  1. Can you say VaporWare? Last I heard, mid to late July is more likely. I personally hope not since I plan to go the Avigilon route and really need an iPhone app for it.
  2. If you did that at the company I do lots of work for, they would have people swarm that switch and tackle and detain you for plugging an unsupported, and rogue piece of equipment in to their network. What makes it really laughable is they don't have anything worth stealing. Just a staff of uber neurotic IT people trying to justify their existence.

    PTZ & Camera Questions

PTZ cameras are fun and cool to have, but having fixed cameras covering everything are going to be more useful in the long run. The PTZ can only look one direction at once, and may miss a critical item that fixed cameras will get.
  4. I have looked at these in the recent past. http://www.veracityglobal.com/products/ethernet-and-poe-extension/outreach-quad.aspx No real world experience with them.

Avermedia Codec Question, Hardware vs. Software Key

Have you tried contacting Avermedia directly? They always seem to quickly answer questions I have had in the past. At least the US based team.
  6. Post an image from the camera.

    Sanyo VDC-HD3100

5 fps is all your going to get in full rez mpeg. You can get 30 fps at 1920x1080.

    Sanyo VDC-HD3100

In decent lighting these Sanyo cameras have an excellent picture quality. The HD3100 has no "night" capability unless you have a well lit area. Search on here for HD3300 images in day time and that is what you can expect from the HD3100. Basically everything said about a HD3300 applies to the HD3100 except night vision.

    0.15 lux question

It looks like a .4 lux minimum. Still not going to do much good in low light. Take your time and look at a lot of night pictures on this sight. I have a .1 lux camera and a CNB VCM-24vf .005 lux and there is a huge difference in light gathering ability.
  10. I am still trying to decide what makes the most sense for a home based camera setup. Being a gadget nut, I am driven to have quality stuff and don't mind paying a bit more for it. But there is a part of me that wants to be done and not have ongoing costs, beyond replacing cameras a few years down the road as they fail. Are any of the quality software based NVR systems a buy once and never pay for upgrades?
  11. How about when you decide to build a new server for the software. I know Exacq is tied to a MAC address, and there are workarounds for that. Is Avigilon easier to move, or are you required to contact service to do so?
  12. Good to know. Also curious how often Avigilon and Exacq provide software updates.
  13. So if Avigilon does not charge yearly maintenance then what about software updates. Will they likely always be free?

    external IR for cctv

I assume those filters diminish the light the camera can see as well. Is it significant?
  15. I don't know if this is an option, but there are several nice software based NVR's that can do a single IP camera for free. You could then record everything and store it for a few days and let the software mark the events.
  16. I too would like to see how much you want for each item. Feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to keep pricing private.
  17. I am waiting on a quote for the enterprise version. Apparently you have to buy a 4 license block to begin with (at least with Standard). Then I believe you can buy single license's. My somewhat educated guess it it's roughly half again the cost over Standard. But having said all that, I hear there "may" be interesting stuff on the horizon.
  18. I'm pretty sure you have basic Alarm capability. I've been demoing it for a week or so, and see enough features in the enterprise version to make it more favorable to use. The Rules being one notable feature absent in standard. http://www.avigilon.com/products/controlcenter/overview/
  19. If you set it up for email, you can have it send warnings. I was doing a firmware upgrade the other day and it apparently hung before a restart. The internal fan never came on, and after a while I got an email indicating a temperature warning. No details of what the temperature was, but nice to know it would tell me if it was hot. Anyone know what the threshold is for the alert to send?
  20. I have a pair of Sanyo's and never had to re-enter anything in Avigilon. If I disconnect then reconnect my HD4600, it will revert to only one stream. Not a huge deal, but kind of annoying.

    CNB BBM-24F Feedback & Recommendation

I have a CNB VCM-24vf and it's a nice cam for up close use. It holds and image quite well in low light. That said, I got my first Sanyo HD 4mp camera and what a difference it makes. You can add internal storage on lots of IP cameras and set many up to FTP to a PC, so you can avoid the cost of a DVR. I have no knowledge of the Geovision stuff, but have used Avermedia NV cards for years and love them.

NV6480e, cameras show blank green screen

I had similar issues on an 1156. Once I dl'd drivers for the video from the manufacturer instead of what Windows 7 provides, all was well.

    IR Illuminators

Been looking at those fleabay specials too. How wide is the usable light at say 75'?
  24. I've seen that one too. Company says X division is only making a million a year. Lets merge the technology, close the division, and drop the things that don't sell in large numbers. Years later, people still talk about how stupid the move was and how they wish they had that division's profits again. Don't bother asking me how I know. It's just too painful to relive ...
  25. Or like I am familiar with. Engineers say, we can make one of these if you give us two years to develop. Management says you have 6 months, and heads will roll if you don't deliver.
