Axis P1344 - sending command to switch day/night
mike_va posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It seems there might be a way to do this, but I'm just not sure how. I'd like it to switch the ICR out at the same time each day. From the menu: "An Event Type is a configuration that describes how and when the unit will perform certain actions. Event types may be set up as Scheduled or as Triggered. Event types are often set up to upload images or video to a specified destination, but they can also send email, activate output ports, and send various types of notification messages. Event types are configured in the Event Types menu. Many event types require an Event Server for their function. These servers are used to receive uploaded Motion JPEG images or event notification messages. Configuration is performed in the Event Servers menu." Thanks in advance, Mike -

Contacted Axis and they got back to me the next day, turns out they have the answer online: http://www.axis.com/techsup/faq/index.php/index_axis.php?action=artikel&cat=0&id=115397&artlang=en&search=ir+cut+flter Works perfectly, Axis has GREAT firmware (and support)! ...unlike some other camera vendors... -
Axis P1344 - sending command to switch day/night

Thanks, I'll keep playing with and post the answer if I ever get it figured out. -
I also thought of using my mac mini for this, but ultimately have moved everything onto an I7 and use chicken of the VNC to have the windows machine show up on my macbook. I would recommend also going IP with 1.3MP cameras. Depends how much surveillance vs. occasionally looking for the odd event - if the latter consider that Axis and some other cameras allow recording to a SD card.

Tried that but still can't get it to work...maybe it will make sense tomorrow. -

Thanks, still cannot get it to work though. Here's what I've put in for the server, am I missing something somewhere? .../axis-cgi/param.cgi?action=update -
Well put. Unless you need the range I'd go with the 1000 which has a wider angle.

Port Forward Scheme to access cameras
mike_va replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Good question. My goal is to find affordable alternatives to the Avigilon Gateway for viewing cameras on an iPhone that I can recommend to others. I downloaded IP Camera Viewer for $2.99 and it works well on my LAN, so next I wanted to test it on my WAN. The IP port mapping solution in the router is not as ubiquitous as I had hoped. Changing ports on cameras is an option, but I don't know if that's doable across camera manufacturers, and even if it works, the solution is a bit more tedious. You could also check out this method if you can figure out the path for the camera viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23345 This site has good info http://skjm.com/icam/mjpeg.php -
Port Forward Scheme to access cameras
mike_va replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
There was this topic, but you may have seen already viewtopic.php?f=19&t=23165 I change the camera to 192.168.1.57:10057, then forward 10057 on the router to 192.168.1.57. I think the point was you could just forward 10057 on the router to 192.168.1.57:80, and not assign the camera a different port number at the camera if I understood correctly. The other thing I'd like to know is what do you do when you run out of ports that can be forwarded? My Linksys WRT only has so many. -
Milestone Xprotect go exported clip quality
mike_va posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've been playing with this software for a few weeks, and the exported clip seems to be not at all the quality of other software I've tried. Does not matter if an IP camera (e.g. Axis P3344) or converted analog camera (e.g. Axis 241S). Is there a setting I'm missing? I've tried a different codec option on the export and that helped somewhat but not entirely. Thanks in advance, Mike As a side note, this software works well on an Athlon quad core, runs at about 20% with 8 cameras. I upgraded my other computer to an I7 for my other software, which is just phenomenal. -
Analog: we have Bosch 495's and one 620 for general overview cameras, nice picture. We also have one Panasonic 484 for the basement door because it gets a lot of sun in the afternoon, set at 2x sense up to get a similar pic quality at night as the Bosch and like the auto focus when it changes day and night. The 620 has got to be my favorite, can turn the gain down to 16dB at night for a nice noise free picture and the "default shutter" option is great - with an auto iris you can set the slowest shutter speed (say 1/500s) and it will hold that as long as there is enough light. Not inexpensive and then you have to find 1/2" lenses... Have one Sanyo VCC4594 but it switches back and forth about 10 times trying to decide if it wants to be day or night...have a BBM24F which has very good IR sensitivity but not that great a picture compared to the Bosch... Have also been playing with a Watec 902C 1/2" and a 902A which has a good pic at night. Very limited controls but small camera. 902H3 has too much gain and is noisy (that's how they got that great low lux spec, lotsa gain).

I wonder if it isn't just the way the light is hitting it and reflecting, if it is not an exposure problem. Here is an Axis P3344, car pulling in. I don't have a WDR on the front of the house, I wonder if that would solve this?

I had a HP that worked for years then started doing that. Turns out as I had added video card, hard drive etc I started to tax the supply and eventually put it on the edge of failure. I say edge since I could bring it up on a variac and get it to stay powered...then one day swapped the supply when this no longer worked. Could not even find a supply as small as what they had put in there...ended up cutting out a little metal work in the chassis to get it to fit. Never occurred to me they had all these expansion bays etc but had not included a power supply that could power the items one might add...

AVR lower is better. I've actually had mine kick on towards the high side! Never would have noticed the overvoltage, but I heard the beeper go off and looked over at the rack (which also has built in voltage and current display meters) and that's what it was. 500VA may only be good for 300W look at the specs. I have a sticker put on mine reminding me what my UPS can actually do. Sim sine wave is fine but can mean a wide variety of things in practice... Get a unit with an inexpensive replacement battery if possible. I brought home a rack mount APC UPS with dead batteries once with the hope of replacing the batteries, but they were a fortune (this was a very large unit).

That was covered in other posts, last night I was just curious as to what it looked like inside. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24535 viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24524 I think Rory has also posted some shots. For the money, pretty good.

Interestingly, the fan just moves the air around inside the enclosure - it is completely sealed.

Interested in playing with the Basler if still available. Thanks, Mike

More pics. This has been sitting on the edge of my back porch getting rained on the last few months, still works fine. Interestingly one screw rusted, but not the other.

This made no difference when tested on a bullet IR camera, same amount of glow.

Yes, but will have to be this weekend.

Just for kicks I bought some of that Edmund stuff, a square piece. Came in the mail yesterday. Cuts down greatly on headlight glare but not completely. During the day with the camera in color makes things look funny. Remove the ICR on the camera and it "sees" fine during the day in B&W - would be a good way to do a covert w/o using a pinhole lens. Also, and this was unexpected - blocked most of the visible light from a lamp outside. This would be useful if a particular light was messing up the exposure at night. Look forward to hearing about your license plate experiments.

FWIW 465 works on my system

Noticed a lot of the pic is in shadow, do you have any way to set the exposure more on the plate area?

I can only imagine your frustration...that is my fear...that I don't have something dialed in with all the effort and miss something. You can pick up a used Bosch 5-50mm lens on ebay for around $10. The CNB will have good low light, but you may not notice a huge improvement in the picture for the money. If you want to go nuts I'd spend it on a cube Acti 4200 or some other megapixel (even though I had occasional artifacting issues and returned it). Depends if you want the low light. Also if you use auto iris a lot of cameras default to the slowest shutter speed which may frustrate you zoomed in since it will move across the FOV quickly. Play around and do some testing to make sure you get the results you want. Good luck.
