    Techwin trouble

I sold a Samsung Tech. SVR.........the 440N to be exact. Its installed at a residence on a DHCP. tech support is telling me their DDNS software doesnt work for that model until a firmware release. as lame as their efforts to resolve the issue may have been, I was advised use a 3rd party DDNS host to get this DVR networked. Anyone have any suggestions on who to use? Is this a reliable solution, or should I exchange the unit for something else? thanks

Whats the story on the Wizkid brand? It sounds like you've had some issues.

    WDR Camera

A grand for a 484, huh? Sounds like you're really gettin over on that one, my man. If you're married to that camera then I guess I would say you know how to pick 'em'. Your customers?.........not so much. Personally, I have 2......yes, its the best looking camera I've seen with real D/N.........still unsuitable for locations where i need VP domes, etc. A thousand bucks....................classic.

    S/N Ratio meaning help

In theory, the higher the S/N ratio, the higher the quality of the image will be produced. As far as camera spec sheets go, it all depends on what conditions the camera was under when the S/N ratio was measured. As I understand it, an un-weighted signal gives the most accurate measure. Some companies use special filters during testing to improve the S/N ratios of their product. A weighted signal is about 8 db higher than un-weighted signal. So, its no surprise that most manufacturers dont specify whether stated S/N value is weighted or unweighted. If they do, you can be sure their not trying to hide anything.

    WDR Camera

About that EQ600 by Everfocus.............I just listened to a guy's pitch that the EQ600 is the best WDR camera he's seen. He bragged that the spec sheet for that camera reads 95 db of dynamic range. The 484 reads 52 db and the Ganz ZC 701 (my personal favorite) reads 60 db Im a little unfamiliar with what this spec really means as I usually focus on the S/N ratio of a camera. What is the difference and why would the Everfocus have such a higher rating? Thanks

    MUX to LCD

Right. Basically, I got what I paid for with those janky muxes. I guess Ill never learn. I think Ill send those back and upgrade to a single high-res mux displaying all eight cameras on one LCD at 1280 x 1024. The other monitor gets digital cable. rgds

    MUX to LCD

For a public display project I'm attempting to display 2 seperate multiplexers on 2 seperate LCD's (32" / 1366x768p). I figured if I found a MUX with S-Vid outs (rare) I'd get a clean picture. Well, not the case. S-vid from the MUX to the LCD displays nothing but black screen with a horizontal solid green line . When I plug a camera into the MUX it shows the image but it strobes in all display modes. The dealer claims its a refresh rate problem. I've tried converting to VGA and I get poor results. The LCD's will go back before I use the BNC monitor out. Im looking at Kramer conversion devices but Im thinking Ill see the same incompatability between the MUX and the Kramer box (S-Vid to DVI??) Ive tested the S-Vid on other smaller TV's and it works. I need to get a clean image to these very expensive monitors and without totally exploding the bank. Im already in pretty deep. Thanks

    MUX to LCD

ARM 4 Ch. mux If it matters, the specs on the website list the refresh rate as 60 fields per sec. The OEM manual reads for 30 FPS. http://www.armelectronics.com/page.aspx?p=72

Best place to get these camera's.

The bullet itself may be sufficient, but that mount couldn't hold up an eggshell............A real pain to work with if that camera weighs anything.

    arm electronics cameras

Rory, those new WDR domes sound awesome. The D/N SuperHad sounds pretty sweet too. What I need most right now is a rugged dome with WDR. Make that a minidome and were really talking. I havent tried the SuperHad myself. I could save 50 bucks by using it instead for more price-conscious customers. Afterall, they're both a hi-res dome and use that same housing. Asthetically, its a nice looking camera wherever its mounted.

    arm electronics cameras

Yeah, this one here..... http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=731 ARM has it in a Super-Had and an ExView model, like you said. Both are at 550 LOR.

    arm electronics cameras

Im using a newly released VP dome put out by ARM (ExView) and getting excellent results. They dont have this cam on the ARM website yet, but be on the lookout. My only beef with this camera is, out of the box, the cable is fed thru the side of the base of the camera which makes no sense for a vandal proof dome. Re-routing the line under the camera base is somewhat of a task, but it can be done.

What does a failing IR cam look like??

Yeah the LED's do look evenly lit. However, the cameras are around 3 years old. Considering what I paid for em, they're probably goners. Thanks
  16. I have a number of the same bullet cams. They've been up for close to 3 years now. Some of 'em are washing out in one corner for no apparent reason. After cancelling out the moon or streetlights, dust, webs etc., I can only arrive at LED burnout as a wild guess. I have this occurence with a few others of the same cam. Are these cameras dying a slow and painful death or is something else going on? No biggie replacing them. For the money, this camera has been a workhorse for me and produced a decent image as well. Also, I recently put up these Nuvico bullets. http://nuvico.com/upload/doc/HW3895IR36N.pdf So far so good and the camera has nice specs for a bullet. Anyone using these? Ill need something rugged and with good IR range as a replacement when its necessary? Thanks

Wow Rick! Your camera really looks like its in tough shape. I know where to find you a great deal on some used bullet cams. Real cheap!
  18. Im running that same unit (NVDV4 Turbo) on a T1 at 1.5/1.5. Over the past couple weeks Ive been adding a camera here and there. Im at 12 now and headed towards all 16. The amount of cameras installed on the system has nothing to do with streaming speed. Its a bandwidth issue. After all that box is rated 480/480. Now, on the T1 I have installed and with the DVR set to 360 X 240 resolution, I only get max. 15 FPS (web stream)when a given camera is in single view mode and 1.5 FPS on full display mode. Dont get me wrong, this DVR is a heavyweight and 15 FPS/camera is more than adequate. Im just wondering if I had the box on a T3 would the OSD read 30 fps transmission on single mode and 3 fps on a full 16?? One intersting thing Ive learned about this unit is that pixelation (motion and type of CCD) will affect the stream as well. Certain cameras actually stream faster or slower in my set-up (Exviews look the best)A softer image transmits faster. It would be great to talk to somebody that has experience with this unit. As far as I know, the settings are correct for the fastest web streaming possible. All-in-all, this DVR is a monster.
  19. Currently, I oversee the operation of 12 DVR's in our company. 8 out of the 12 are uniform PC based (mid-range components) systems Those boxes have been running for a little over two and a half years. I installed all these systems myself and have had pretty good luck with em until about 6 mos. ago. All my PC units were becoming infected with spyware and pop-ups that would run in the background for months before I could get to each location to service them. I wiped em all clean with a new OS, loaded updated DVR software, opened up dedicated ports for each, added storage and replaced a power supply here and there. Since then, everythings been cool, but in 3 of the units the capture cards are freezing up. About once a week. I have a hard time using the automatic shutdown feature because all too often a windows service or an update will prevent XP from re-booting. I've disabled IE in every unit which has always been a big help with spyware and pop-ups, but now my problem are card freezes which is usually followed by a full-sytem crash. A couple questions: 1. On the hardware side- where is my money most wisely spent for necessary maintence upgrades. (motherboard, fans, power supply, com ports etc., etc.) I'd like to avoid replacing the capture cards that are freezing up if possible. 2. Is there a list somewhere in this forum which outlines stripping down an operating system (msconfig) so that the computer only uses the "bare essential" services thus dedicating more processing power to the DVR? Thanks for reading.
  20. Excellent. I should be in business with all these tips. Thanks cam2. Cheers!
  21. I need a wireless solution for a single camera in the following environment: outdoor w/ perfect line of site reaching 3000+ feet. the only option for mounting the receiver is on the same phone pole with a 2.4ghz iternet dish receiver. I tried the COP brand tx / rx and did actually get an image but it was scrambled and the picture was unusable. Im surprised the generic unit made it that far in the first place, but obviously I need something stronger. Should I invest in a 5.8 ghz unit or is interference not the issue here. Im looking at the microtek minilink 5.8, but it's a bit spendy. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    wireless options

Right. How i got a picture out of the cop unit at 3000 feet ill never understand. Same as rory, Ive had problems getting that same device to work within 200 feet. On another job the guy wanted two of 'em to run parallel to each other. No dice. Even at a 200' spread which was the max. i could go. A total waste of everyones time and he was pissed cuz I was charging by the hour. I told him I was hesitant before i worked on that piece of the project, but he was dead set on it. In the end it still made me look bad. Oh well. BTW, props to rory and to all the members of this site. Much appreciated.

    upgrading GE units

I have 4 DVMRE units (10cam)rated at 30 fps. Is there any cost efficient way to increase the frame rate of these units? Im new to the standalone DVR world, so my apologies if this is a dumb question. Thanks

    wireless options

Right. I guess im just a little leary of pitching a 1500.00 peice of gear im not yet familiar with. After all, it's only one camera that needs wireless Tx and the cheap device was pretty close to being acceptable. Would you say that the internet dish would be more of an interference concern if I went for the ML 2.4? Thanks for your help.
