    Noobs thread to HDTV

    A 1mp camera can be considered HD. 1280 x 720 (720P) 2MP 1920 x 1080 3MP 2048 x 1536 (4:3 Format) 5Mp 2592 x 1944 (4:3) 8Mp 3296 x 2472 Then if you want to go for the Gusto: 16Mp 4864 x 3248 29Mp 6576 x 4384 The picture quality doesn't improve from 1Mp to 29Mp. It's all about pixel density to cover a large area and still maintain a good pixel density so you can zoom in on archived video and it not tile out on you. An Analog camera has great picture quality if the coverage area is small enough. Max res on analog is 768 x 540 Lets say you wanted to keep your pixel density of 40 pixels per foot in width. 768 / 40 = 19.2 feet 1280 / 40 = 32 feet 1920 / 40 = 48 feet 2048 / 40 = 51.2 feet 2592 / 40 = 64.8 feet 3296 / 40 = 82.4 feet 4864 / 40 = 121.6 feet 6576 / 40 = 164.4 feet 40 Pixels per foot is just an average number. Depending on what you want to see you could drop down as low as 12 per foot or, if you want facial recognition you need 75 to 90 per foot. Hope that helps.
  2. Exacqly Avigilon started out life as a Software Soultion like Milestone, Omnicast, Exacq, Etc. They were a direct competitor to Exacq. I'm probably a little bias but Avigilon is the bast software solution out there as far as I'm concerned.

  5. Those are screen shots not the actual image. Totally depends on the resolution of your monitor.
  6. What kind of installation would require 25 frames per second? Also, your total bandwidth doesn't account for upstream to the clients. What about your Core switches?

  8. I wouldn't get trapped into a Hybrid DVR if it were me. I would look at Avigilon Encoders and Avigilon NVRs. As a first choice.
  9. The Geovision NVR software is free with their cameras. If you want to use their software with 3rd party cameras you will need to purchase licenses for each 3rd party camera at about 100.00 list per camera. I would look at Exacq NVR software and Axis or Arecont cameras.

  11. Rory that is very true. if I needed to really light something up I wouldn't depend on a camera to do it. I would have IR devices that are designed for the job. Any camera that is going to depend on POE to power the IR can't be that serious about actually seeing something in the dark. Not to mention sending high current over 300 feet on 24ga wire. Do you put a POE camera in a housing and expect the POE to power the heater blower?

  14. With a ttl output you still need to use a low current relay to utilize the output. With a dry contact you can connect devices directly to it as long as the load current is not more than the contact current. With a ttl output you need to use a relay like this http://www.altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=RBSNTTL I just noticed that relay was a RBSNTTL I assumed you were linking to a RBSN. Looks like I learned me something today. I had never heard of a RBSNTTL!

  16. IMO you have to have a significant amount of light. I set one up on a tripod in front of my truck with the truck sitting on the street so I could get the camera as close to the traffic without getting it run over. Standing in my driveway looking at the street there is a street light one house to my left and 2 houses to my right. The motion blur was so bad all you could see was streaming tail lights.

Here is what it says: External I/O Terminals Alarm In, Alarm Out, RS-485 1 GND Ground for RS-485 interface. 2 RS-485 RX/TX+ Half-duplex RS-485 interface for controlling external equipment. 3 RS-485 RX/TX- 4 I/O Common Shared pin for Input and Output. 5 Input 4 (+) The input uses a photocoupler and is electrically isolated from the internal circuitry. The input voltage should not exceed 12 V. 6 Input 3 (+) Same as above. 7 Input 2 (+) Same as above. 8 Input 1 (+) Same as above. 9 Output 4 The output uses a photocoupler and is electrically isolated from the internal circuitry. The output terminal connections can be made with either polarity. The output can drive a maximum load of 50 V and 120 mA. 10 Output 3 Same as above. 11 Output 2 Same as above. 12 Output 1 Same as above. So is that a dry contact or ttl?
  18. The ttl in your scenario would still have current flowing through it to fire the relay. This seems to be a gray area in our industry so I'm just trying to get some clarity. Are we saying the dry contact will handle more current than the ttl? If so how much?
  19. Ok perhaps I just fell off the turnip truck but whats the difference in a Alarm output triggered by motion and a dry contact output triggered by motion?

    HD-SDI over RG59 Coax and Baluns

    I have never even given one of those cameras a thought because we do 99.9% IP. But that video stream is staggering. They must send the raw stream over the wire and do nothing at all on the camera.

  23. I don't have any H.264s to look at right now but in Jpeg2000 at 30 IPS the stream is 6.3 Mbps with heavy activity in the image.
