    ahh I see

If you were an installer you would like that business model also. Customers who want high quality equipment (Security, AV, Speakers, Locks, etc.) go to a dealer. There are some products marketed to end users (diy) and some which are only available for sale from dealers / installers. Avigilon did not make up this way of doing business. Have you ever heard of the rainbow vacuum cleaner? Go try and buy it at Best Buy. You Cant. Have you heard of Mul-T-Lock high security locks? Go try and buy it at HomeDepot. You Cant. If you want there product you have to play by the rules they set up. You cant make up your own and expect them to abide by it. I do understand your perspective though.

    difference between protocols

I think Pelco-D is one of the most popular protocols. Don't know why this is and not sure if one baud rate and protocol is better then another. Can anyone explain to us
  7. Are these the GEM baluns? http://www.ebay.com/itm/160706448332 http://www.ebay.com/itm/160706460210
  8. If the caller is from an international country wouldn't the recipient of the call have to pay the bill? Maybe this is why they are calling. They want you to stay on the line.
  9. I would clean that up... Not only is it unsightly but it provides no security the way it is now. Something like this: http://linesafe.net/aboutlinesafe.html

    Indoor Dome Cameras

Your adding cameras inside the home? I think that a dome camera would not look so good in a home unless you want it to be visible. I think a camera like this would blend in much nicer to any home decor. The camera is behind the glass/plastic and the cover can be white, silver, etc. http://www.channelvision.com/index.php/NEW-Products/Single-Gang-Box-Hi-Resolution-Color-Camera-6204-212/flypage.tpl.html

I'm not as smart as I thought

Show us pics from the cams when you get them. Thanks
  15. I agree... This is probably what I would do in my building. Analog cameras are much cheaper then IP at this time and getting a good shot indoors in a well light environment (hallway) doesn't require a top of the line camera.
  16. Thanks so much.... I was looking for the software for my DVR like this one.
  17. Run a Cat5e cable to every floor. Each Cat5 can support 4 cameras when you use baluns.

Can I use RG6 cables with RG59 connectors?

From my experience RG6 and RG59 are two different cables. RG59 is best for CCTV. RG6 best for cable tv's digital signals. RG6 = Best for digital signals. RG59 = Best for analogue signals.
  21. People start thinking about cctv, security, alarms, etc. when something bad happens. When someone gets hurt or something bad happens they might change their mind.
