  1.

    Lol....

    Yeah...the parameters changed a bit..

But not still picking, its picked...see link above

One thing to consider is noise. I prefer my gear to be silent. Just food for thought.

No worries here, will be in an a/v closet with other gear

  2. problems with first one are that

    1. not enough ports. 5 cams plus 2 access points plus dvr and link to router is 9, that one only has 8.

    2. no gb ports for dvr or link to router.

Isnt it always better to link to router and dvr through gb ports?

  3. nice. thanks guys....

now this is the switch i originally planned to use

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833218022

    then decided on this one

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122077&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Network+-+Switches-_-Netgear+Inc.-_-33122077

mainly because of more poe headroom, and because the 2nd switch has 2 gb uplink ports.

Do you think this is a good decision or am I going overboard...?

  4. looking at the dbb-24vf (blue-i chip, xwdr with back light compensation)

    vs. the

LBM-24vf (monalisa chip, infrared with intelligent ir, with SUPER backlight compensation)

    1. what do you think pros and cons of these cams are...opinions?

    2. is SUPER blc better than blc or is it hype?

    3. does super blc take the place of xwdr?

    4. they both say tdn but it says ICR(AGC type), what is agc type? is it different than a mechanical cut filter?

    thanks for the help...

Am i splitting hairs with these 2 cams?

  5. Have to add 2 cams to a retail shipping store. 1 of the cams will be looking at the entrance door and window, all glass / bright sun.

Was thinking CNB with WDR but after reading a post by rory I am rethinking...he states the monalisa chip cnb cams using the blc setting performs better than the wdr cams.

I was originally looking at the CNB-DBB-34VF, but now looking at the CNB-LBM-24VF....

    opinions either way?

  6. Lol.....

That is something i know, but you're the first to come out and say it.

I just like to eliminate as many potential hassles as i can before they become a problem....

What do you think about that switch?

Im asking because my supplier said they had problems with those, of course he was trying to sell me something more expensive...

If you can briefly explain to me how i know what a good backplane is and where to look in the specs ill take it from there....

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day...teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime

  7. It occurred to me I left out one other important step - setting up the cameras themselves, from the IP address. Some cameras have an app for it, others use the web address, and some require you to use IE while others work OK with Chrome or Firefox.

If there's not a vendor utility for setup, once you have the camera IP address, plug it into your browser, and it will usually come up with a web page with the camera view and settings. Every camera's different, though, and some are better than others.

Finally, some software gives better quality video if you match the frame rate settings on both the camera and the recorder. Others override the camera setting, but some give jerky video if the camera's set for 10 fps and the recorder's set for 7.5 fps (as an example).

Definitely more troublesome than analog, but once you get the quirks out of the way, it should be stable. I keep plenty of notes!

That is great info....maybe saving some hassles for me...Thanks
