  1. After getting that Costco Q-See 720P kit and seeing a bunch of youtube burgler vids I thought it would good to add a camera with 2 way voice capabilities so I can say hi. If I am understanding their app correctly Im hoping I can talk directly into my iphone to whoevers at my door. Any recommendations in the Dahua line or similar price point? I went through Dahua's site and didn't see any w/ 2 way voice.

    Mounting: Discreet or Deter?

Thanks I think I will mount my 2 x Qsee/Dahua bullet cameras out of sight and get 2 domes for front entry. Won't see it on the street while driving by, but you'll notice if when you walk up.

    Q-See 4 Channel HD NVR w/ 2 x 720P Cameras

Those videos are uploaded by Qsee. I wonder how the Qsee cameras look at 15fps. The more I check out the Q-See/Dahua package from Costco the more I love it. All my earlier fears of lack of support, troubleshooting, etc are gone.

    Q-See 4 Channel HD NVR w/ 2 x 720P Cameras

Perhaps it's YouTube compression? Specs are very similar in the Qsee and Dahua camera. Only thing different is 30fps vs 15. Or Qsee's firmware with more agreesive compression allows 30fps from that same camera?

    Mounting: Discreet or Deter?

How do you guys mount your cameras? Im debating if I should make it more discreet so that it gets a good shot and avoids vandalism/someone trying to destroy it. Or mount it in plain view so it acts as a deterrent? I plan to add a decal small enough to read only at the front door ''Smile you're on HD cameras''

    Q-See 4 Channel HD NVR w/ 2 x 720P Cameras

Video samples from Qsee are up. Not bad for the price! Day Night

    Q-See 4 Channel HD NVR w/ 2 x 720P Cameras

I picked it up...I'll try to post some sample videos when I get it running. Specs for those Qsee cameras look like a Dahua HFW2100 but the Qsee model has 30fps. vs the 15fps
  8. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11766186&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|1482&N=4000486&Mo=87&No=25&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=1482&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav= Looks like Costco is starting to go HD cameras kits. This is the kit I was looking at. They have another one at $1500 w/ 4 1080P cameras from Lorex. I was hoping to purchase the $500 kit and add 2 Dahua or other POE cameras later. The NVR can handle up to 1080p. What do you guys think on this kit? Costco warranty and tech support are a big plus to me. Price looks pretty competitive Thanks in advance.
  9. Trust me guys I have better things to do than spam and troll forums. I hope with time I can actually contribute to some other noob I wish Dahua and Vivotek (some of the better brands I've been reading about) would sell to optics planet or B&H for support and exchanges if needed. Looks like I narrowed it down to 4x Dahua 1.3-2mp cams 1 x Dahua NVR (compatible with iPad app) Do I need a PoE router or will it power from the NVR? I'm assuming motion activated and iPhone monitoring is pretty standard these days? I also plan to install some IR illuminators or would a motion detected halogen light be better?
  10. Hey Larry, Im not affiliated with any site, etc. With so many no name cameras and sites without prices or the ability for the avg home owner to purchase it got a little overwhelming. I'm just a guy who wants something better than a Costco 4 channel setup for $300 shipped. As a photographer and shooter I appreciate quality glass. To me there is no point in having a system if you can't ID their face. As I was checking around I thought there has got to be a better place to buy than direct from China. A place with all the popular brands (that I am learning about), video samples in all light conditions. US vendor, support, and specs. The first place I always look are the vendors that support a site. I do appreciate the fact that you guys are trying to keep the site unbiased.
  11. I must of spent almost 100k @ B&H in the last 5 years (Im a photographer). I was browsing their IPC section and no doubt they have top quality gear. But too rich for my blood. More bang for the buck w/ Dahua and everyone seems to like them here
  12. Gotcha....figured there were some forum favorites. The search continues
  13. Trying to sort through all the brands, lingo, acronyms, etc since I started on this site. Will be buying a home soon and would like 1.3-2mp IP cams in 4 locations. As of right now Im hoping to spend 1500-2000 it. Can you guys recommend a place a home owner, not an installer can purchase some of the better brands? I seen some talk of some brands, but not sure if I want to go through Alibaba as I am worried about support, etc. I see the vendor links on the left, but they dont have the brands often discussed often on the forums. Thanks in advance
  14. Did you turn on an IR illuminator at 1:23? If so what model and range? Thanks!
