  1. What kind of a club is it? If it's a BDSM nightclub, you'll want to make sure you have a nice PTZ camera at the ready.
  2. Tried to find this in the user manual but couldn't. Anyone know the max speed? I have a Class 6 (up to 30MB 200X SDHC 32 Gig unit), but I'm wondering if I should take it back and get a class 10 version instead? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital I'm into performance but I don't want to get a class 10 if this camera can't max out the Class 6 I have.

    Wv-SC385 SDHC write speed max

Your camera will stream ~ between 1mb-6-8 mb your card can do as You sad about 30 MB You do the math Where is the 8mb cap listed? Is this in a document somewhere? Also, that's stream speed. How are you determining the write speed of the camera besides using the potential stream cap of 8MB? I thought this camera has an unlimited bit rate: Max bit rate (per client) * = unlimited from the Image\Audio setup page. It does list 8156 at the high end, but it supposedly can go beyond that with the unlimited setting. But I don't think this setting really affects how fast the camera can write to the sdhc card. I think that's a different setting somewhere else. I haven't been able to locate a setting for how fast the camera can write to sdhc so I'm curious where you are getting that 8mb cap.

I don't think I can hold out much longer. I think I'm just going to open the Sandisk Class 6 - 30mb module and see how it performs.

    PTZ Question

It's not really about fear in my case. I mean, yeah, the people across the street are drug dealers, and I have been getting amazing evidence and close up shots with the ptz (a couple purchases per night) even being in the front window only, but, it's more that I just don't want anyone to know, it's really not any of their business. I do realize that I notice cameras way more than the average individual, but some of these ptz's are rather large with the environmental enclosures and sometimes they can really stick out, or even, just not look good. They don't really blend in very well sometimes, unfortunately. I'm sure eventualy I'll get it outside when I can disguise it at least a little bit, it's my longer term goal. But, admittedly, I am more into stealth applications than most. I can't even drive a car without tint because I hate people so much. I don't like them looking at me. I don't like the obligation of having to wave at someone. Yeah, I've got some problems. Personality disorders? I have more than anyone on this forum, I will guarantee you that. But I must also quote Stephen King.... "Perfect Paranoia is Perfect Awareness."

    PTZ Question

There are enough times in life when you have to do what someone else says. It's your home and your security. You put that camera where you want. If anyone makes a stink about it, let them know that a camera like this can help keep an eye on the whole block all night long, which keeps EVERYBODY a little safer and more secure. All at zero cost to THEM. So, hang that sucker. The problem is there is a catch-22 to everything. Sometimes, having a camera out can cause people to act differently when you might not want them to, it could even cause vandalism to the house\yard (i.e., sometimes teenagers might do things to the property in protest of the surveillance, etc.), or someone might try to take it, or throw stuff at it, or break it just for the hell of it, or shoot at it with a beebe gun, or a paintball gun, or try to wreck it with a powerful green lazer. And even though you would record the event, if the purp is one of their friends, it might be a pain tracking them down. But regardless, sometimes, you might want to just go the stealth route, and not want anyone to know the surveillance exists. I just wish the stealth route for ptz's was a bit easier. I can't think of any good ways to disguise a ptz though, due to the almost 360 degree rotation. Maybe a fancy looking birdhouse with tinted windows or something, you know, a really pimped out bird house. Anyone here ever have good luck disguising a ptz and not hinder the 360 degree rotation? Any stories?

You can try and explain it away all you want. I still say there is a poltergeist in those shots. Plain as day.

    PTZ Question

They are amazing Nice. How many holes did you have to drill or were you able to use some of the holes in that installation? And how did you get the cabling into the gararge, did you have to drill through more stuff? I want to put my ptz in a similar location, but also, I don't want the neighbors to know it exists, so, I don't know if there is any hope for me. Presently, my ptz is in the house looking out the kitchen window and it is so under-utilized this way.

The images here are very reminiscent of a poltergeist. I'm not 100% certain however.

    Geovision GV-NVR and Panasonic WV-SC385

Was on their site but couldn't find the right demo to d/l, or do they not have a free demo? What's the total cost to run it with about 4 to 8 cams?
  11. I hope that rat is ok. That last step looked ominous. You should put some music to that video. If I may make a suggestion, go with Ben, by Crispin Glover: YTKNahASSDI

    Wv-SC385 SDHC write speed max

I should do that. The more I read about sdhc, the more I want the newer 90mb read write versions, but that must be overkill for this cam, but maybe not. It only goes up to 1280x960 and does not do the full 1920x1080 that most hd cams do (camcorders, etc.). That's a lot less pixels it needs to write compared to most HD cams. Less pixels should equal less write speed needed.

Camera Delivery - FedEx or UPS?

I have another camera to order (approx value $1k) and I was just curious what most people prefer for a shipper when it comes to sending surveillance cameras? Camera's need extra care because they are so fragile and I often wonder who will treat the package more carefully. Anyone else ever go with UPS or FedEx based soley on which carrier will be more careful with their expensive camera deliveries? I am familiar with the FedEx monitor guy but I think that could be a one-off and not the general way they do business: and of course, UPS mean drivers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACKAdVasFU0&feature=endscreen&NR=1 This guy is mad about the snow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1qUd9na_PQ&feature=endscreen&NR=1

I'm starting to notice a little more on this issue. It's turning out to be less locking up, and more of an issue with zooming in and out using the mousewheel. Happens quite a bit to me. If I click on the zoom out and zoom in icons, it works fine, but randomly, the mousewheel just stops zooming when I use the Pano web interface. I know it's not the mouse because, everything else works fine, like web browsing, paging up and down with the mousewheel, etc. Have you noticed this exact dilemma with your SC385 by any chance? (Mousewheel zooms randomly failing). I'm on IE9 on a Win7 Pro 64 bit machine.

CYBERDOME ll - going to BW as soon as I put dome cover on

I'm thinking of picking up a WV-Q156S smoked dome for my Panasonic WV-sc385. Will I run into the same problems? I've heard some smoke domes can cause 1 to 2 f-stop light drops, etc. I haven't checked this dome yet to see whether it's poly or acr yet.

    Need surveillance Recommendations

Cheap junk. The owner needs a reality check - this ain't the movies. If you want an optical zoom, someone needs to be sitting watching the cameras to initiate the zoom at the time of an event. Otherwise, all you can do is digital zoom, which is essentially taking the image into software, clipping an area, and blowing it up: things get bigger, but you don't gain any clarity. Plus, with a fixed camera, optical zoom will ONLY zoom in on the middle of the frame... if you need detailed video of a certain area (say, a cash drawer), you're better to just have a camera permanently zoomed on that area. For real-time zoom to be of any practical use, it needs to be part of a pan-tilt-zoom camera... right there you're increasing the price of that camera 3-4 times, and again, it's of limited value unless there's someone sitting there driving it. It will only record what it's aimed at; if it's pointing in the wrong direction, then what's outside the area it sees isn't recorded. So. The only viable option if you want to record a wide area and zoom in after the fact is to go to HD cameras of some sort. See some examples here of recording high-res and zooming in after: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=11322&start=501 Is there existing coax? If not, consider Cat5 with baluns for analog video: the cable is cheaper, easier to work with, and more versatile for future expansion. This is a quality analog camera at an excellent price: CNB VCM-24VF - extremely versatile and out-performs many cameras costing 2-3 times as much. Overrated. And a misnomer. "Night vision" cameras are generally cheap cameras with poor low-light performance, that make up for that by adding cheap IR LEDs - think of an LED flashlight shining on the subject but with IR instead of white light. Get cameras with good low-light performance (see above) and be done with it. Your raining on this guys parade....Rain Rain Rain.... It's ok Lindgren. The rain will let up soon, hopefully.

    Geovision 8.5.4 released on Friday

I have a similar problem. The dongle is supposed to let me run 7.x but it never works so I always go back to 6040. Something about the S1 chip being present or not.
  20. I've noticed that these cameras are very similar (possibly the same camera in an outdoor config). Is it possible to turn the $1K Sc385 into an outdoor model for much less than the $2k price of the SW395?

How many camera's do you have installed on your property

Had the same itch. I say feed the itch, you only live once. I put off buying a PTZ for 10 years. Finally got one and I love it (even with some bugginess, it's still loads of fun). Wish I could go back in time now so I could have purchased a PTZ sooner. Missed out on 10 years of having one. Currently making up for lost time. I'm not knocking the high MP cams (5, 10, 16,) - I want to get a couple myself, but being able to control the PTZ cam and moving it all about and zooming in, well, it's almost like playing a great video game. Addicting as hell. (I just hope I don't wear it out. I'm not sure how long they last). But heck, you can even use the joystick to control it. I miss the arcades...

Camera Delivery - FedEx or UPS?

In a couple reviews or forum posts, some people always mention the buggy firmware, and some mention lockups, like this one from JohnnyC. By locking up, I mean, sometimes, the ptz using the web interface will be unresponsive for a bit, sometimes a few seconds, to a couple minutes. On some occasions I've had to close my browser down and reconnect, etc. Just figured it was due to the buggy firmware. Who knows, could even be my Netgear AV500's and Av200 powerline mixture. (gets me less than 30 Mbps and is shared between 2 IP cams). And I have noticed the issue seemed to crop up more when streaming them both to the same PC at the same time. Could even just be my browser or activeX controls, settings, etc. It doesn't seem to happen too often, just enough to bug me. I can try to find the links, but even the main reveiws for this cam all mention buggy firmware as causing problems for the cam. One of the forum postings was for a previous version of this cam, from a JohnnyC. He posted the following about all i-Prosmart HD Pano cams: http://www.networkcamerareviews.com/forums/about6559.html "Sorry, I actually phased over from Panasonic to Axis starting 2.5 years ago and I'm not familiar with the Panasonic i-Pro Smart HD WV-SC385. I think I seen a demo of the i-Pro line when it first came on the market (or shortly before) at a camera/security show in New York City. I am almost positive it was the i-Pro line and the cameras were very buggy. They kept crashing and freezing up to the point the vendor powered them off." I've seen a few more that had similar experiences, so I figured it was just due to buggy firmware that might be updated later this year. You mentioned you have one, and I think I knew that from previous posts, can't remember what you think of it however. Do you like it, or think it is worth the price? What are you using to control the PTZ, the Pano web interface, or something else? So far, I like mine. It's a lot of fun. I'll have to contact Geo and find out why it's not listed yet. I was hoping that it was just because the cam is still relatively new. I think it's been out for about 1 year or so. Maybe that is not so new in this industry though? I tried to find out what the successor to this camera is going to be or when it would be out, but had no luck with that. With video cards (GPU's), you can expect a new major version out every 6 months, not sure about IP cams though. Sure would be nice to see a 5MP version of this camera. Probably cost a fortune though.

    Panasonic WV-sc385 to WV-SW395

I read it a few times before . Yeah, thing is, I don't know how much all the extra's cost to get this how it would need to be outside. I know the outdoor version of this cam comes with nice temp control, humidity control, etc. I was hoping I could add the extra's to this cam for much cheaper than the outdoor version some day. How much were the extra's on the one you did in the review? I know you mentioned this cam was like the Axis one at almost double, were you able to find more that were similar to this one yet? (i.e. IP cam - 1280x960 at 30 fps, PTZ with 18x optical) around $1K or less.

Camera Delivery - FedEx or UPS?

I checked the list before I ordered it, and it wasn't on the list yet, and nobody on this forum could confirm if it even worked with GV-NVR, and Pavel mentioned the PTZ worked under ONVIF: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=29757&start=15 I saw some post where people mentioned PTZ was a pain on this cam, and I can sort of see that, but it sure is fun being able to mess with the ptz and 1280x960 rez (when it works from the pano web interface). - sometimes, it just locks up for no good reason though. Probably due to the buggy firmware that this cam has been dinged for on every review...However, this is my first PTZ and I couldn't wait for Geo on it. Had to have it because I needed a good toy to play with. Do you think Geo will add it this year? (PTZ controlling). Cause the Pano web interface is not the greatest.

Camera Delivery - FedEx or UPS?

Well, I wonder if I put enough thought into that. It's the Panasonic WV-SC385. http://www.networkwebcams.com/ip-camera-learning-center/2011/02/08/panasonic-wvsc385-evaluation-review-rating-buying-advice/ I like it because it does 30 fps at 1280x960 and has an 18x optical zoom with the PTZ controls which can be fun to play around with. (being used as an auxillary cam). I have noticed the firmware issues a few people have mentioned, but I didn't want to pay almost double for the Axis camera that has similar features. Thinking maybe some day I could add an outdoor enclosure and put it outside, but I can't think of any good way to disguise these because of the near 360 degree turning. (Don't want all the neighbors to see it and complain). I only hope that I will be able to get it to work with GV-NVR. Haven't tried that yet, but the more I see how GV-NVR works, the more I wonder if it is the best solution (my background is with Geo DVR's - 10 years). Hard to change. I was unable to find many other ptz's with 18x or greater optical zooms that could capture at this resolution. Anyone know why that is? I think there should be more cams like this to compete, but I just couldn't find any.
