    Anyone using GV-VMS yet?

After you install them, you have to then assign them to a camera number. Usually, from the Install camera location is where you do that. You right click and click Display camera at this position.

    Geovision Video/Audio Log and Synology

Curious if you ever got this to work or not. I'm considering purchasing a Synology NAS as well for my GV-NVR system. thanks i am still curious to see if this works, but i ended up replacing the geovision system with another IP VMS. geovision has too many limitations (in my opinion) and i was sick of dealing with them. Yeah I'm familiar with Geovisions limitations too well. I've been thinking of switching from GV to something else for over 10 years. I just keep waiting for something to make a switch to. Came pretty close to switching to Milestone recently. I've been testing it for a while. Seems like the industry standard has become 50 per 3rd party cam license. Wish it was a little less than that. What did you end up going with? Milestone \ BI \ Synology?

  4. Dahua is releasing a new 4K surveillance camera in the next couple weeks. Anyone know if it will be available in the U.S.? Also, when is the exact release date and price? The article just mentions November but doesn't list the exact date or price. Anyone have any advanced info for it yet? The model # is IPC-HF81200E and there is some information about it here: http://www.dahuasecurity.com/news/dahua-4k-camera-enhances-your-hd-demand-140.html "Dahua 4K camera IPC-HF81200E fully complies with the above standard, it adopts 12.0-Megapixel sensor, incorporating with high-performance DSP to provide extraordinary image quality. Meanwhile, the camera offers 12MP (4000 x 3000) at 15 fps and 4K at 30fps preview with a suggested bandwidth at 8Mbps, ensuring a smooth live view without network resource waste; in addition, the camera provides triple streams options to satisfy various demand in application."

    Geovision GPU Decoding

I would also like to see an icon indicating whether the acceleration is enabled or not. Unfortunately that wasn't available in UI. So far, if my guess is correct, the GPU acceleration only works with Intel's integrated graphic with QuickSync. You can check whether your Intel CPU have QuickSync here: http://ark.intel.com/search/advanced?QuickSyncVideo=true&MarketSegment=DT Thanks stealth_lee. Wow, that is quite a limitation. I mean, If I have a nice Nvidia GPU hanging around, it sounds like I can't use it with Geovision. That's a bummer. I wonder why they don't allow the GPU decoding to work with Nvidia or AMD GPU's?

    Anyone using GV-VMS yet?

Well, that's good news. Good to hear it's working for you. Yes i am happpy to! however, this sould not have worked, and i hate misterys. Anyone From Geovision that can provide a awnser? I agree. This whole GV-VMS issue is very confusing. For example, I just purchased a GV-NVR dongle not that long ago, maybe a year or more. Now GV-VMS is out and at the same time, it seems as though GV-NVR support is being dropped because no new features are being added to GV-NVR, almost like they are phasing out GV-NVR but they aren't really saying that, so it is confusing. Anyway, if someone just purchased a GV-NVR dongle and wants to run GV-VMS for 3rd party cameras, they should be able to just upgrade to GV-VMS for free because GV-VMS is basically the same product as GV-NVR with a name change and a couple added features that should have been in GV-NVR since inception. (custom layouts). With all the confusion surrounding GV-VMS, I am considering other options. I've been using Geovision products for over 10 years but this kind of confusion doesn't make me very confident in my GV choices. I hope that they do something soon and give people an idea of what to expect with GV-NVR - GV-VMS. But the way I see it, it appears as though GV-NVR is heading towards no longer being supported. I submitted a feature request for GV-NVR recently and was told they are no longer accepting feature requests due to GV-VMS being released.
  9. Anyone know who won? http://ipvm.com/report/low-cost-ir-illuminators-test I own a U06R, curious how it did against the others.

IR Illuminator Competition. - Who won?

Thanks. Those results appear to be close to what I received while testing that unit. The only downside to the unit is that the red lights are bright versus dim like regular ir LEDS are.
  11. I've noticed a newer style of infra red illuminator LEDs that have started to crop up here and there and I was wondering if anyone happens to have more information about them. For instance, this new type which requires less numbers of LEDs is rather interesting, but also disturbing. http://www.univivi.com/34-u03r-ir-illuminator.html These LEDs seem to have decent coverage. One downside is that they are more visible at night, they can easily be seen as very bright little red lights at night versus the other kinds of standard infra red LED lights I am used to which just have a very faint red glow which is barely noticeable. Guessing these are SMT emitters maybe? Then there is this type, which might be the same as the ones listed above but I can't tell for certain: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1078427-REG/iluminar_irc300_a40_24_40o_300_90m_850nm.html Are these types of LEDS newer? They seem to be more powerful than the standard smaller ones but, is there more to it than that? And why are they so visible? I like the fainter glow of the older style. Older style I am used to working with: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1078406-REG/iluminar_irc182_a45_24_45_182_55m_850nm.html Also, of the types listed above, which are the best? Trying to figure that out. thanks

    Geovision and Purple Drives?

According to the attached T13.org document it seems that the command set is as old as 2004. I'm not 100% when this was ratified, however, this does give you an idea of how old this actually is. If you really want to know if that mobo supports it, I'd suggest checking the host controller to see what ATA spec it adheres too. http://www.t13.org/Documents/UploadedDocuments/docs2007/D1532v1r4b-AT_Attachment_with_Packet_Interface_-_7_Volume_1.pdf Cool. thanks for the info. I started looking at some of those documents but couldn't zero in on the exact one. My mb was manufactured in 2007 or so and I'm planning on using a 2010 board as an upgrade soon so it sounds like I should be covered.

GV-NVR to GV-VMS upgrade. Is it Free or does it cost bones?

Holy DOUBLE Moly! That is almost double the price I paid for a 4 camera license of GV-NVR for 3rd party cameras. What the heck? Milestone only charges $50 per camera, which has become the norm. This is highway robbery, no doubt. Are you certain that is the cost quoted above? Are you sure this isn't the VMS Pro version pricing quoted above?
  14. Curious if the GV-NVR 3rd party camera license to convert to GV-VMS costs anything or not? For example, if you just purchased a 3rd party GV-NVR 4 cam dongle last week, does it cost extra to use the GV-VMS 14.10 version?

    Geovision and Purple Drives?

Just checking if you determined which host controllers take advantage of the WD Purple firmware or not? Looking at these drives myself as well as the newer WD Purple NV which came out a couple months ago. I can't find a list of compatible controllers that will utilize the firmware yet. Still looking. After a little research it seems that any controller that supports the ATA Streaming Feature Set, specifically from section 4.23 of the ATA specs : Along with: All WD did was create a clever way to utilize cache along with this feature set and coined the term "Allframe". WD is good at that. I wonder if my 7 year old motherboard supports the ATA streaming set. Is that a new set, or an old set? Curious.

GV-NVR to GV-VMS upgrade. Is it Free or does it cost bones?

Unfortunately GV-NVR and GV-VMS licenses are two spearate products and cannot be converted to use with either or. That's odd because when I requested a feature enhancement for GV-NVR, I was told that GV-NVR was at end of life and no future enhancements were coming and everyone on GV-NVR will eventually have to upgrade to GV-VMS. So, GV-VMS is the upgrade to GV-NVR but there is no pricing available for how much the upgrade costs to go from NVR to VMS? Can you elaborate? I tried to find a link for pricing but even Geo support did not know where one was. I wish they would send something out or post a link. I found all the links for how to upgrade GV-NVR to VMS, but nothing on how much that will cost. thanks
  17. Thought I would start a separate thread for this camera so it doesn't get confused with the other 4K Hikvision cameras that are starting to come out. http://bkeesti.ee/upload/Hikvision/DS-2CD4585F.pdf This camera can record video at up to 4096 x 2160 at 30 fps. From initial reports it appears that this particular camera may only cost around $327 or slightly more. Has anyone been able to try this camera yet or obtain any info about it like the release date, etc.? It would be nice to see some night time shots from this camera as soon as they are available.
  18. Doubt it, and a 12mp lens wont be cheap. I think your right. It doesn't appear to come with the camera. I can't even find a lens to go with this camera anywhere.
  19. I didn't end up buying the Dahua. I couldn't find anything about that site, good or bad. Hmm. I wonder if this 4K Dahua comes with a lens or not. I wasn't even able to find the user manual online anywhere, just the specs sheet.
  20. I was wondering the same thing about this 4K Dahua camera as well. $438 for a 4K camera is getting down to the price point I have been waiting for as far as 4K cameras are concerned. Did you end up buying one of the Dahua's by any chance? I haven't ordered from that site before and was wondering if it seemed reputable or if you were able to dig up any bad reviews of the site or anything. I can't wait to start testing live views of 4K cameras on a 4K tv.

    New Dahua 4K - 12MP camera - IPC-HF81200E

Do they really have someone called Peter Pan working at Dahua? Must have had a tough school life I was wondering the same thing. Looks like this one is around the $400 range. I wonder if anyone owns this one yet? http://www.cctv-mall.com/dahua-ipc-hf81200e-dahua-ipc-hf81200e-12-megapixel-4k-ip-box-camera-dahua-ipc-hf81200e-12mp-ultra-hd-network-camera Here's some sample video from it: Anyone know if this camera could be used as a camera inside a window pointing outside through a non-south facing window?

    Geovision GPU Decoding

How do you enable or disable this feature in GV-NVR? Does the feature only show up if your machine meets all the requirements of GPU decoding? Let's say you had a system with 2 video cards, can you tell Geo to use the GPU decoding on one of the cards but not the other? From what I've been reading it seems to me that GPU decoding can only be used with the built in motherboard GPU's, is that still true?

    Anyone using GV-VMS yet?

I've been noticing the same thing with choppiness and I'm only using 4 cameras on the 60 day trial 14.10 version. I wonder if anyone happens to know when 15.10 will be released? Perhaps it will be more refined and usable by then. 15.10 is supposed to have h.265 but I don't show a release date for it yet. http://www.securityworldhotel.com/int/News/Product-News/geovision-debuts-h265-vms-at-isc-2015

    Anyone using GV-VMS yet?

Tried it out for a few weeks, but had to go back to Multi-Cam. The (new) PC specs exceed the minimum requirements to run VMS, but it seems very buggy. The camera layout and menus are much better. Switching between live view and playback is real easy. Problems encountered: Hangs up when making changes, adding cameras, motion detection tweaking, adding analytics, camera layout changes etc. Any of these changes would cause the PC to stop responding for several seconds, sometimes a minute or two, or require a PC reboot. It became too time consuming to make system changes. Playback with the time line is great, unfortunately is is also VERY laggy and would occasionally take very long to respond or quit responding all together. I loaded VMS on an older i7 PC and it pretty much responded the same way the new PC did. Maybe the next version will work better, but for now, I'll have to stay with Multi-Cam Are you thinking that GV-VMS is mostly just a cosmetic update to GV-NVR, or do you think it's more like a rewrite of the software? I'm starting to think it's only a cosmetic upgrade, but the new camera layouts are nice. They should have been that way a decade ago. Not sure why it took Geovision so long to realize that. I haven't checked out the timeline feature yet. I keep wondering after all this time if I should continue on with Geovision or move on to something else. I've been using Geovision for over 10 years but it has never impressed me that much. Always rather bugger and cumbersome. The fact that you still can't resize windows like a normal application, even with GV-VMS, just makes me cringe sometimes. Makes me feel like I'm missing out on something.
