  1. A Frontier technical manager came to the site and after about 2 hours or so, we got the DVR to be accessible from the outside world. Evidently due to security issues with Frontier Business Class, you can not use the address that you see when you use "whatismyip". That is the right address for the router, but you are not allowed to access it. They added another "layer" within the router, a different address that was a WAN address, both for the "gateway" and "ip address". The DVR saw the LAN gateway and IP, but that is not useable and you have to use the WAN address within the DVR and router given to you by Frontier. They then entered a range of DNS addresses of 40 to 41. Too complicated to explain it all here, but now it works. So,,,,,be aware that if you are having a problem with Frontier Business Class, contact Frontier to have an internet tech come directly to your site. That is supposed to be a "pay" service, but in my case the tech probably felt sorry for me, turned out to be a great guy and he got it working by taking instructions over the phone with his superior. Even with those instructions,it didn't work until the tech at our site programmed the router with the range of DNS of 40 to 41, instead of just one, of which he tried 40 only and it didn't work.

  2. The SFN6 is different than your model.

Here's is what I found on the website regarding your model DVR. You may already have this info:

    hxxp://kb.zmodo.com/index.php?sid=117806&lang=en&action=artikel&cat=2&id=1&artlang=en

Replace the "xx" in the "hxxp", with "tt".

If you still can't get it to work, maybe I can find some extra help. The "format of the USB might be the problem".

  3. Router: Netgear/Frontier 7550

Have done hundreds of port forwarding dvr's to internet, but must be missing something here.

Figured that Frontier must be blocking 80, so changed it to 81. Still can not see the WAN address with "canyouseeme" or remotely at another location. Anyone who is acquainted with Frontier and this router have some help for me on this? What am I missing?.

Update: Client contacted Frontier and they sent out a tech. He couldn't figure it out either, He called his supervisor and he couldn't access their router. Decided to try a static address and start over. They're supposed to get back with me after the static address is setup. The router is only a few weeks old, but maybe it's got a problem.

  4. Nothing to it as long as long as you have the camera that you are going to use connected to the line. Monitor the supply voltage at the DVR and then the voltage at the camera. Subtract them and you have your voltage drop. Current wise, connect a DVM in the current mode and connect it in series with one of the power lines, either at the DVR or camera. If the camera is an IR unit, then the tests should be made when in the "dark" mode. If you make the test in the daytime, cover the camera lens end with something that simulates "no daylight" and maximum dark.

  5. On the rear camera's, I would suggest 6mm (or vari-focal of 4 to 9 or 2.8 to 12 and adjust as suitable). You don't need a lot of overlap and you will get "closer views" as the Field of View is reduced. As far as the front camera goes, (in my opinion) you don't want too much of a downward angle to the top of peope's heads. Do you want the facial shot as people are coming up the stairs? Then what you have is ok. Or move it closer to over the door. If you are wanting to see who is at the door when the door bell rings or they knock, then place a camera in the corner to the right.

  6. On DVR's that have "mouse" contol, just run a USB extension cable to the area where the TV is. Also, run a video cable from the rear of the DVR to the Video (Yellow) jack on the TV for DVR monitoring. When you want to run the DVR remotely in this fashion, just select the proper video input on your TV remote control. Easy. Do it all the time on my CCTV installs.
