  1. Now, I could use a little information. I have an old DVR at my service shop that I took in on trade about a year or so ago and have been using it just fine there to monitor my main shop area. All at once, I was unable to view camera video at home. Was able to access the DVR ok, but it was like the camera wasn't hooked up any longer. Drove down to the shop and turned on the monitor hooked to it and the video was just fine. What I found out by going into the system info was that it was showing no hard-drives, even though I have two in it. Thought well crap, so I shut it down, powered it back up to see what happens and now I can't get into the menu's at all. No login window. The 16 channel video screen comes up with the camera video showing at cam1 location, but am unable to do anthing else. On screen, is saying something like "check hard-drives" and it just continues hunting. Has the operating system crapped out or what? Motherboard failure? The first page text of the owners manual is below. There is no name or model number, just (I guess) model numbers in a list at the bottom. It says that the "picture" might differ, but there isn't any picture to start with.

Graphic of the remote control attached. Probably wouldn't make any difference, but I could take a photo of the front and inside.

  2. I've been in customer's homes who would love to get video as good as yours. They ended up settling for what they have as they didn't want to spend more to replace their existing camera's. There's better and some much better, but it depends on how much fine detail that you need. The youtube video is closeup and the the capture's are quite distant. That makes quite a difference all by itself.

  3. I have had the "cheap" included "premade" cables bad (crap) in the past. If you can hook a camera directly to the DVR and the video is ok. I would do as suggested above and run a temporary cable from the DVR to one of the camera's and see what you get. You probably don't, but I have a signal generator that I connect at the camera end to check the video cable. Also, make sure that you have the proper camera power at the camera end of the cable. The 12VDC can be down some, but in most cases, not more than 10%.

  4. i have alarms run to my dm sprite with ptz domes connected aswell. i run thru the event alarms each night before bed to see if theres a few or little amounts usually only check if i think ssomeone or something has been hanging around the property.

The novelty wore off on me a long time ago, I only ever search the footage when an event is known to have happened then I just search the time-frame during which an event could have happened. I sometimes get asked by neighbours or a couple of time by police so I search their time-frame and let them have any interesting stuff. Mainly if I were to come home and find someone had vandalized my garden or porch area I would search for the event from the time I went away to the time I returned..... Thats it, .... CCTV does not take over my life but it does remove the frustration I feel at not knowing what happened. All the local kids know I have CCTV by now and they stay well away.

You and I agree on this. Rather than writing my own, I'll just use yours.

  5. I'm not acquainted with that particular DVR, but,,,,,,

You say that you get nothing. You generally get something.

If on the network, you get a "login page", then the network IP and port 80 or 8080 (which ever one you use that brings up the login page) must be right.

Other than that, what do you get?

    Blank Page

    Wrong "username"/"password"

Video Viewer with blank "channel" screens

Video Viewer with an "X" in the screen corners

What is it that you actually get?

  6. Hello everyone! I have recently purchased and installed my system. I finally got it working so that I can access my DVR from my computer and cell phone. Now I have been attempting, with no luck, to be able to view my system away from home. Has anyone tried this or had any luck doing this? If so, you can you please help me out. I have a DLink router, if that will help. Thanks in advance.

I may have missed something here. Can't find where you posted this issue before. Is this a new post? I take for granted when you say that you can access it on your computer, that you are referring to being connected in your Network direct to the router. Also, if you can access it on your phone, then the right port for that is forwarded in the router for remote access. If you are unable to access it on the internet, via a browser, what do you get when you attempt it? Do you get a "login" page or "Page Not Froud" or something similar? I would expect, since you are able to access it on your phone, that you are receiving a "login" page, but no video. If that's the case, then probably, you don't have the correct port forwarded in the router. Just shooting in the dark here, to this point. Then again, I'm old and may not be making any sense.

  7. I belong also to two other service forums and it looks like I was the first to put this up. On one of the other forum's, another servicer who read my post, called one of the Aaron's that he services and they verified the email about this. I'm sure there will be more as time goes along. Have also heard that Sharp is going to do apx. the same thing, the first part of the year. Time will tell on that also. Oh, I want to (in a way) apologize for using the term "MGA". That is an old term that was used in the past and is really not used much anymore. Showing my age and time in this business again.

  8. "This cable", "that cable". Use whatever cable that you've used in the past and are happy with. There are getting to be as many different different cable's and spec's as there are opinions. If it has worked for you, use it. If it has caused issues, don't. 55 years in the electronics industry and that is my "opinion"!

  9. Too many issues and options to advise on. If you have 15 individuals advising on this or that, you will end up with 15 different thoughts. I would advise just to buy what you can afford for the features that you absolutely need. Just bought a new DVR for my home. Could have spent $800.00 for a top of the line DVR, but didn't need it. Bought a Zmodo for $125.00 and am totally happy with it. Does everything and more that I needed it to do. I am not advising that you buy a Zmodo, just an example.

  10. Since it was for me, I just got one of the cheap Zmodo's (black face with no front panel buttons) and ended up loving that little thing. Does everything that I need for home. Still can't believe how much I like it. Maybe it's because the software ended up being very similar to some Falco's that I have installed for some of my customer's and I was used to them. Have 4 camera's installed and it looks like with the 500GB HD, it won't start over-recording for several month's. Network setup was supereasy. It may quit tomorrow, but as inexpensive as they are, I don't even care. I'm sure I'll hear how much a piece of junk it is, but that's also ok.
