  1. I agree with the others that if you only want one camera, it may be a good choice to save the money on the nvr but if you must have a single camera and an nvr and you want to keep it under $750, you can go with a Hikvision DS-7604NI-SE/P which has 4 poe ports and 1TB HDD for under $350 and a DS-2cd2632f-I for under $300. This is a 3MP camera and is varifocal which will give you a little more flexability on where to mount it.

  2. Thanks

    That's good to know.

I've used only two different fisheyes. I've used Geovision which work pretty well as far as panning and presets go using their software but I haven't tried them with another vms. I've also just recently used vivotek fisheyes with the VMS we use on jobs and found them not user friendly.

But I haven't messed with them too much.

I haven't used any Axis cameras yet but it seems to me, they are the superior brand in most ways.

What VMS are you using the fisheye with.

  3. Are you using cameras with mic inputs or are you running mics back to nvr for a different application?

If you're running them back through spare pairs on the cat6 then on the cat6, you can use the blue,blue/white and brown, brown/white

This is as long as you are not using gigabit LAN.

POE would use those pairs as well

Only passive Poe would. So don't use a passive injector.

    Use a Poe switch

  4. I get what you're saying, because you're using one pair in each cat 5 for video and then the remaining pairs for power, right?

It's unfortunately not always neat and you'll need to figure out how to clean it up. but you can first bring the cat5 cables to the rear of the dvr and have your baluns terminate there and then some kind of patch cable from there to the power supply for each camera.

Personally for the patch cables I would use something like 18 gauge, one pair per camera.

Then just splice the the power patch cables to the cat 5 power cables using some sort of crimp connector.

  5. First off I'll admit I'm no cloud expert but it would make sense to me that going the cloud route would be slower as you are going through a service rather than right to your dvr as is with ddns

I did a quick look into the cloud setup and it seems there is some bandwidth throttling that can be set to account for different Internet connections. Is it possible tour settings are not correct there?
