  1. Installed an Avermedia EH1004H and love it. There's only one problem so far and I've called Avermedia and the guy never gets back to me so it's either that what I want can't be done or he doesn't know so.... I figure I'll ask here... When wanting to remotely review a certain day/time video via Remote Console is it possible to see all three cameras (all we have att) video at the same time or does it have to be 1 camera at a time? Thanks.
  2. I'm looking for an inexpensive, but good, 4ch standalone DVR. So far I'm going with the Avermedia SEB3104H unless someone cares to recommend me something better. Anyone know somewhere I can buy one in the USA? Thanks.
  3. Oh, sorry my query was against the regs, Rory. I'm on so many different messaging forums it's hard to keep track of all the rules.
  4. Hey guys. We've had a Nuvico 4-channel unit for some years in our pizzeria and it finally bit the dust. We're looking to move up to a 6 or 8 channel unit without breaking the bank. The only real need is to access the dvr via www, the channel capacity, and output/backup to USB stick or external hd. We don't need POS, PTZ control, or super-high res video. Is there anything good for around $1k or under or is that just not advisable? Thank you.

Help: Need a new DVR unit

Thanks for the info guys. Rory, do you have a link for Intellicam or for a specific unit(if that's ok with the admin)? I'm not finding much on them. I don't know if it's their site but www.intellicamusa.com isn't working. Thanks.

    Networking (same old problems?)

Is there something like a "service port" setting in the DVR. Make sure you set that, mine is 7000, and then input that into the monitoring s/w along with the correct IP of the DVR. Is it using a static IP from your network provider? If you're trying to connect a PC directly to the DVR via Ethernet you'll need a crossover Ethernet cable.
  7. My buddy wants a b/w IR camera inside a back room in his business. Looking for at the least a 2.7mm lens and prefer a varifocal for future flexibility if we want to move it. Can anyone recommend a good b/w camera (preferably with lens) for under $250? Thank you.

    Recommend <$250 b/w indoor cam?

Hey John. I'm trying to get him to go day/night and I think he's seeing the light (pardon pun). Thanks.
  9. A little late but I needed to do this today for the first time. On Nuvico's site you can d/l their "DVR Mini Player" off the "Download Software" link. Select the dvr model you have and you should be presented with a list of s/w to d/l. Copy that program onto the CD along with the .CMS video file and anyone can view the file with that program.

    Cameras

I've done about 20 Nuvico domes and a few bullets. Never had a problem with any of them. Picture seems very good for the price.

    Day/Night camera/picture question

Well, turns out it was the reflection off the glare shield. I moved it back, no longer in the FOV, and problem solved. Here's a shot after the adjustment: http://tinyurl.com/2r3d2d Cheers!
  12. I still consider myself a greenhorn and this was my first day/night w/IR camera install. I'm not liking this picture and was wondering what, if anything, can be done to improve it. I can't get the pic to show here so please click on this link to see a nighttime capture shot: http://tinyurl.com/2lxmwf and here's a daytime capture: http://tinyurl.com/39eqpf I think pushing the glare hood back a little might help(?). The camera is a Nuvico NVCC-HW3895IR36N-D. Here's a link to its product page: http://tinyurl.com/2vqa2l Any help is really appreciated.

    Day/Night camera/picture question

No kidding? Alrighty then, I'll check that out. Thank you.

Any tricks to getting a nice focus?

Don't drink caffeinated beverages before focusing cameras. I used to think up new curse words when focusing cameras... got it right and then sure enough while tightening those tiny set screws it would move a hair and be off.
  15. It does matter. It should match what the router is set for. Java isn't required for the remote program, however it is for the browser. I think the OP definitely needs to get another router in there to test, even though he's able to d/l a file from the dvr. Interesting.
  16. Did you check the IDE cable going to the burner? I had this happen and it was the IDE cable got loose. Good luck.
  17. I see JSC is located about 1-hour drive from me. Their cable specs look up to snuff but that's one thing. Anyone using JSC and care to opine? Thanks.
  18. I was wondering if it's possible to hookup an external USB drive to the USB port on a Nuvico dvr instead of a USB stick to d/l video. I called Nuvico and left a msg but never got a response. I don't have a dvr here to play with, hence the question. Thanks.
  19. I forgot to mention... check your router's firmware. Ensure it is the latest. Sometimes you'd be surprised at how old your "new" router's firmware is. It's worth checking into.
  20. What's the router brand and model #? What's the maximum # of IPs set to in the router? It should be disabled since you've set DHCP disabled in the router but I've seen strange instances of leaving a default low # in there, then disabling the DHCP and when trying to use a high IP it wouldn't work because for some reason the router still retained that low # of IPs. I'd lower the DVR's IP to around x.x.x.100 and see if that helps. Also, ensure NAT is enabled in the router. Also, I doubt you could ping the DVR over the Internet thru your router. Are you using a ddns? Are you using network security or PC antivirus softwares? If all this fails then reset the router and try again.
  21. I take it there's no way to secure the DVR and power leads in a locked room? BTW, I like the "record the area of the outlets, catch the bastard powering off the system, then fire them" idea.

    Keep getting problems

I'm having this same problem. Damn rental modem keeps dropping. I hate dealing with Comcast but methinks I'll have them take back their POS modem and just buy one. At least I have a slightly better chance of getting a working unit.
  23. Thought this was the best place to put this so........ We have two 2-line phones in our office, running off seperate lines. Either phone can obviously utilize either line-1 or line-2. We just got DSL activated today on one of the lines. Now, I'm not new to computers or networking but I am new to DSL. My question is: can/will the DSL work over this setup? Are there special 2-line adapters or filters that we need to allow the DSL to work over one of the lines _OR_ should I run a seperate cable from one line at the NIU straight to the DSL modem?
  24. Which would mean I'd have to call ADT before I disco the alarm line to install the RJ31x. Doug, thanks for the link.
  25. Thanks for replying. The filters are 2-line filters so they should work for either line. I think I -should- be able to tap the line at one phone's jack with a line running straight to the DSL modem. In essense, it's the same thing as running another line straight to the demarc. It's been a long day but I think that should work, right?
