I would say just get an expensive analog camera, and put that above your door, and hook it up to your TV and then you can watch what is going on. Just look in your phone book, and buy something local. You may spend more then buying on the internet, but you will have a good tech support help should you need it, and you will not get that from an internet site.

What is your budget to spend for customers? -
Where ever there is cash involved then you need a combination of both overt, and covert cameras. In residence situations then I am using these for homebound patients where nurses come in to assist. You can see if they are being fed, if they are given their medication, to see if they are being dropped ect. One client went through 6 agencies before she finally got a good one. We have all kinds of video. We even caught a male nurse "entertaining" himself if you know what I mean. It had nothing to do with the patient, but they must have been "bored". The state took three agencies to task after witnessing the videos. This was a real eye opener for us. The nurses knew about the cameras, but we still had covert cameras. It is amazing how they act in front of the known cameras, and how they acted in front of the covert cameras. Very interesting indeed!

What do you guys think? Did you know about this? Sorry, I can only give links that are in the public domain. ____________________________________________________________ http://news.aol.com/story/_a/secret-printer-dots-raise-privacy/20080714095809990001 Secret Printer Dots Raise Privacy Concerns By Thomas Frank, USA Today Posted: 2008-07-14 09:59:16 (July 14) - The affordability and growing popularity of color laser printers is raising concerns among civil liberties advocates that your privacy may not be worth the paper you're printing on. More manufacturers are outfitting greater numbers of laser printers with technology that leaves microscopic yellow dots on each printed page to identify the printer's serial number - and ultimately, you, says the San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation, one of the leading watchdogs of electronic privacy. The technology has been around for years, but the declining price of laser printers and the increasing number of models with this feature is causing renewed concerns. The dots, invisible to the naked eye, can be seen using a blue LED light and are used by authorities such as the Secret Service to investigate counterfeit bills made with laser printers, says Lorelei Pagano, director of the Central Bank Counterfeit Deterrence Group. Privacy advocates worry that the little-known technology could ensnare political dissidents, whistle-blowers or anyone who prints materials that authorities want to track. "There's nothing about this technology that limits its application to counterfeit investigations," says Seth Schoen, a computer programmer with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. "Some people who aren't doing anything wrong may have their privacy threatened." Schoen's tests have found the dots produced by 111 color laser printers made by 13 companies including Xerox, Canon, Hewlett-Packard, Epson and Brother. The dots are produced only on laser devices and not ink-jet printers, which are most commonly used at home. But laser printers, which produce more durable images, are becoming increasingly popular as their price has dropped to as low as $300, says Angele Boyd, a vice president of IDC Research. Although laser printers made up only 4% of the 33 million printers sold last year in the USA, their sales have been growing by double digits since 2004, Boyd says. The technology began as laser printers were first produced in the mid-1980s and governments and banks feared an explosion of counterfeiting, Xerox spokesman Bill McKee says. "In many cases, it is a requirement to do business internationally that the printers are equipped with this technology," McKee says. The dots tell authorities the serial number of a printer that made a document. In some cases, it also tells the time and date it was printed, Pagano says. "The Secret Service is the only U.S. body that has the ability to decode the information," she says. Printer makers "cooperate with law enforcement" and will tell authorities where a printer was made and sold, McKee says. The Secret Service uses the dots only to investigate counterfeiting, agency spokesman Ed Donovan says.

I wonder if they are still keeping all of the typesets, and typewriter balls of all of those old typewriters of years gone by??

Darn it RickA you know me too well! No, I just did not want to revel publically what may be used by narcotics, and other "stings" in video surveillance.

Oh Oh! Too late!! I washed 5 dollar bills before I printed the 100s so that it passes the pen test!!
-
You are going to get mad at me!! LOL! I agree 100% with you. I use a 4 channel hooked up from a multiplexor, and then I loop out 1 to channel 2,and loop channel 2 to 3, and so forth. I new you would laugh at me!! Funny the "tricks" we have to come up with in a budget world!!

I find that a one channel DVR will cost the same as a 4 channel DVR. The majority will pick the 4 channel so that they may upgrade, or get more value for the money. One channels tend to be left on the shelf. If you were doing an inventory inspection on your business what would you sell? One channels were popular back in the day as an easy way to convert a business away from a VCR. Later as you sold more cameras, then you could sell a multichannel DVR. For the price of a DVR, and a multiplexor you may as well sell a multi channel DVR. You will be surprised to find the multiplexors that I install are actually DVRs!! (AVC 760). I hear your pain, and it is going to be harder to find those one channels!!

With friends like RickA, then who needs enemies???? LOL!

Darn it!!!! I like to think that I am one of those "Grand Wizards" that you see on those movies where they say words from the wise, and they hoard information and that they are the only help to humankind. Oh well. Next time!! LOL!

Hey RickA! You are the only one on the forum who makes me feel unappreciated, but that is OK I just ignore you anyways!! PHHHHHHHHHTTTTT! LOL! Hey I am headed to Kentucky tomorrow, and I will be there for about a week. I will be in Campbellsville. Where are you in relation to Campbellsville?? (This way I know how to steer clear of you)!!! I will PM you my phone #. If I know you, then you will have it posted in every bathroom in Kentucky before midnight!! LOL! -

I was speaking for all of us to some degree. I am not riled. I did not take his comments the wrong way. I feel his pain as well! There have been times where I was in a jam and I needed to rely on help from this forum, and I have to wait for that one individual to see my post, and sometimes I may have to wait 2, or 3 days before I get my answer as some of these experts check the forum every otherday. I do not think the forum deserves his point of view that he cannot get his answer right away. I think he is going to be a super value to this forum as now he knows how most of the posters that come to this forum feel when they are having "their" issue. With his knowledge on AVTech AVC 760 then he can be a "first responder" for the next "emergency". I was in the wrong, and I apologize to Odd Balls. If he felt that we are not a help to him then that is a sad situation for all of those that come here seeking guidance. I do not know how we can resolve his complaint to be "faster" at responding to posts for help. Again Odd Balls, I am sorry. -

I think this was your problem in the first place. Where in the manual does it say to format a hard disk with fat 32?? A page number will do. _____________________________________________________________ Two noobies were able to solve their own problems by comparing notes, and sharing information. Is this not what this site is for? I am proud of the both of you. I am glad that you were a help to another individual, and vice versa. If the other individuals on this forum are like me then they work MON - FRI and on the weekend we have to go shopping for groceries, we have to take our children out to places as a "treat", we have to spend time with our wives to keep the "evil eyes" to a minimum, and we have to paint walls, fences, and maybe have a BBQ with friends, and relatives, and try to do some charity work on the side somewhere, and then try to be a productive help desk here on the forum. _____________________________________________________________ I think the solution that you are asking for is to have the advertisers here pay a forum member $20.00 for every question that is answered. I bet this would generate a lot of activity on the weekends!! I bet guys would be fightiing to be the first to make a post!! I am sorry but the reality is that we are just volunteers, and we do our best to achieve what we can. You are right, you are not alone with the exact same problem, yet I get the impression that you did not click on the DVR tab, and go through the old posts. I am sure you would have seen the same question you have about 20 different times. What disapoints me is that you did not do a "Google" search for "AVTech", or "AVC 760", or "How to fix a hard drive on an AVTech DVR". You will bump in to a website called scorpiontheater.com that provides a formidable list of information, and manuals of the many AVTech DVRs to include old forgotten ones, and manuals in a broad range of languages, and there is even a translator to help those of non english speaking individuals. -

AV-760M: What internal fan should I purchase?
scorpion replied to odd ballz's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Adding a small fan would not hurt. Yes, you do want to be careful with fan sizing. The 4 channel DVRs work hard, and they are liking driving a car on a highway in first gear. If you do not want to add a fan, then add some heatsinks.
