  1. What kind of camera is NASA using on the Space Shuttle? This camera is aimed at the area between the shuttle, and the external fuel tank. This is so they can watch the foam that falls off. If you watched the lift off on TV, then you saw the shuttle as it did a series of rolls. The bottom of the shuttle would go from direct lit sunlight to being in the complete shadow away from the sun. This is a serious wide dynamic camera in action!!!!. How come that "Goose" camera company cannot make a wireless camera without the interference that we saw from the video from the space shuttle?????? LOL!!! Hey NASA!! NICE VIDEO!!!!!!!
  2. Hey Survtech! I had a flash back from a long time ago after I saw your post. I showed up at a customer of mine one time, and started to "repair" some equipment. To pull his leg I pulled out an antique wood burner, and proceeded to "solder" some very small heat sensitive componets. Man you should have seen the look on his face!!! Worth its weight in GOLD! This old iron was HUGE! It must have been a good 18 inches to 2 feet!. It had a mylar handle or something, as it did not use plastic for the handle. I wish I still had that Iron. I good have some fun with it now adays!!!

    dvrs

Rory. That would make an excellant sticky!!!! I use these devices branded under a different company label. 16 channel AVC777W 9 channel AVC776W 4 channel AVC781 I must qualify my choices as I do mostly entry level jobs and entry level prices. The 16 channel, and the 9 channel models are still running after the one year warranties have run out. My customers are very happy with these products. I am extremely pleased with these devices!!!! I highly recommend them!! I use a different 4 channel DVR , and I have also used the AVC781, and I liked it very much. It has a good view over the internet. You can also use IE to remote view. If you are a resellar or a manufacture and you feel that I am being unfair to your product, then understand that this is what is available to me through my distributor. I am interested in other products, at the entry level product price point. I would be willing to receive any PMs on equip. They must be able to ship to Florida with in a 2 - 3 day period.
  5. Thank you very much!

    Camera Advise...

We on the forum need to ask a lot of questions!!!!! Is this for a residence? Is this for a business? Is this for a conveniece store? Is this for a nightclub, or a bar? Do you want to see a wide periphery, and not care about 30 feet out or more? Is the camera far away from what area you want to look at, and will you need to zoom in on the area? How far are you running the wire? Long runs may need 24 volt AC. Short runs can use 12 volt DC or 24 AC. What kink of power supply will you be using? Will it have battery back up in case the power goes out and you want to keep recording? Can you reach the camera standing on your tippy toes? Is it really high up? Are these indoor, or outdoor, or combo of both? What is the threat level? Bad neighborhood? Lots of cash in the business? High dollar value products, (diamonds). What are the consequences getting caught on video? Now that you know what neighbors dog pooped in your yard, or the police want to know who threw the first punch, or how in the hell did they get that 3 ton safe out of the bank? You want cheap?? For indoors get those 1"X 1" minicams, and use a drywall screw to bolt it to your ceiling or the grid of your false ceiling. These are very economical. There is a certain brand that I use in dark nightclubs, and bars! You have to have a lot of those beer neon signs, some rope lighting, pool table lights and various other low light sources! Believe it or not it works!! I use very expensive cameras for the front door, the back door, and the office, and / or an ATM machine. Please discribe you situation and someone here will be glad to get you the right product for the right price. PS I have some mini cams that you can have for $1000.00 EACH! NO? Come on I tried!!!! LOL!!

What kind of camera is NASA using?

How did they keep that bullet camera from wobbling during launch?? They must have used a vice grip to tighten the clamp!!!!! I would laugh if it was a mini camera in an outdoor stainless enclosure!!

Are AVTECH and CPcam the same?

    Yes. They are.

Need help on DVR skip frames recording

What kind of DVR do you have? I do not know what issue you have. I can only assume that you may have a setting that will make the motion detection more sensitive, or you can make it less sensitive. It appears to work when you walk up to the camera. Is there an elevator, or a stairwell in this video. I can guess that when someone goes up, or down the stairs, or the elevator that they are not "recorded". If this sounds about right then this would be a sensitivity issue. If the sensitivity is fixed, and you are unable to make any changes then the stair/elevator is too far to activate the recording. In this case you may have to move the camera closer. If you can make lens changes then you can put a higher mm lens to get closer the the area of activity. Good Luck!

    Any Installers in Mont Alabama?

    Have slingshot, will travel!
  14. From this forum, is there anyone located in Montgomery Alabama? I have to fly from Florida to check on a job that we finished recently for a law enforcement shoot house. I thought I would do a meet and greet while I was there. I will be flying out on mon, and flying back on tuesday. I will be staying near the airport. _______________________________________________ Who is in Jacksonville? I will be doing another shoot house. They should be starting construction soon. _________________________________________________ I also will be traveling to Miami for another shoot house in the late summer. _______________________________________________________ Hey Rory, Need an installer for a day or two? I can write off my vacation!! LOL!

    need camera suggestion

ak357 I do not own the rights to the software. The product is called biobouncer. http://biobouncer.com/ They will provide the computer, camera, and software as a package. It was field tested last summer in the NY city area, and they have worked on all of the "privacy" issues. This is not an entry level product. You must have strong security needs, and you must really need a solution to protect your insurance, or you liq license, or to protect staff, and customers. ______________________________________________________ stantonhog Is this a take off on Stanton turntables? DJ....Night club? If so it works! I would say try uplighting the ceiling, and let the ceiling "reflect" the light back down. This will be difused, and should let you photo the ID. You can try different shades of paint on the ceiling for effect. I would recommend having a bouncer outside who looks at the IDs as well. The first one has more time to look at it as he walks down the line. This is also to let the "punks" see that you are checking IDs before they get inside. Hopefully they will just walk away when the bouncer is not looking. The cashier should have a bouncer who looks at the card a 2nd time, and then a 3rd time as they are being arm banded, or being let through the club entrance. I would still use the scanner. A kind of layers apon layers of protection. If and when you have an under age drinker who goes out of your club and gets in to a wreck with a loss of life, you should now be protected. You have done everything that you can to mitigate these circumstances. This will depend on your state, and your laws. I would coordinate with the insurance company to see what can be done to help mitigate as much liability as you can. If I owned a club, I would go to the surrounding court houses and look at the public records and follow some of these kind of cases. Why did the club lose the case. Do you have those same "attributes". Why did the club prevail? Can you impliment what protected them? Do you have a camera hooked up to a dvr at the front door?

You need a lens that allows you to attach a polarization filter. The other thing is to change the lighting. What are you using for a light source. Night club, and bars tend to be very dark, and I can only assume you are using some kink of desk lamp, and you are setting the "ID" under the light. (??) We would need to diffuse the what ever light source you are using. If this is a fast paced process, I would suggest two cameras. As you slap the ID down, and pick it up and slap the next one down this will allow one camera or the other to "capture" the "ID". I know they have "scanners" for US Driver license that reads the magnetic strip to verify what is on the front. Do you use these scanners? If you do, I think this will pass the "locals" through quicker, and you can spend more time on the passports. You could also have a camera aimed at the face as they come in, and this would give you "data" should something happen. I have software that I sell to the local clubs here. It is a facial recog system that drops all of the data at the end of the night. Should someone get kicked out for a low level incident than you can mark this file. The next time he/she comes in a flag will go up allowing your security staff to keep in eye on this person. If they are kicked out permanantly, then the next time they return the flag goes up and they are permanantly kick out. The clubs around here are close to a sea port where US and foreign sailors come in to port, also the merchant marines. This guy owns real highend clubs. If you are kick out of one club, you are kicked out of all of his clubs! There was a really bad brawl many years ago where valued customers, and employees were brutaly beat. A year later this same group of sailors came back, and were very surprised to still be kicked out. They thought they were long forgotten about, and could come back and have a little "fun". This is where it gets real fun!!!!! They go to another club and BAM!!! They are not allowed in! Some of the other owners are now sharing their data protecting each other. Hey if you lose your liquer license, then you are out of business!! This product does not have any privacy issues. I wish I could help you more!

Hard drive 101 / Data Recovery

Advanced Data Recovery Even with the latest hard drive technology, data loss happens. The best defense is a solid and frequent backup plan. We know that doesn't always happen, though. When data loss strikes, we move quickly into panic mode, trying to retrieve your important files. There are a variety of tools and services now readily available that can help you get them back. We're going to explore data recovery options, from the mundane to the expensive, and weigh the pros and cons of each. http://icrontic.com/articles/advanced_data_recovery
  18. Hard drive 101 Most people have thousands upon thousands of megabytes of data on their computer. Indeed, the hard drives we used today to store all that information have grown by astronomical amounts since the early days. Have you ever wondered just how a hard drive actually works? Before we touch on how data is actually read and written to the disk, it's important to cover the basic elements of a hard drive. We will be primarily covering today's platter-based hard drives and briefly cover the new solid-state disks (SSDs) you may have heard about as well. http://icrontic.com/articles/how_hard_drives_work

Hard drive 101 / Data Recovery

History of Hard Drives Hard disks are one of the most important and also one of the most interesting components within the PC. They have a long and interesting history dating back to the early 1950s. Perhaps one reason that I find them so fascinating is how well engineers over the last few decades have done at improving them in every respect: reliability, capacity, speed, power usage, and more. http://www.storagereview.com/guide2000/ref/hdd/hist.html
  20. I can do the work no prob as you have suggested. I do not have the camera in hand. I do not mind spending $ shipping to me and back, but for the cost I thought I could find a source or get a used one. Don't you hate murphy's law???? LOL! I am going to be flying out of town, and I will not be able to accomplish anything for this camera. Thanks survtech!
  21. Ok! I give up. What is the elevator camera? I did not know which camera on the site you were refering to. Thanks

    having trouble with camera

Yes! You will need an RCA jack to plug in to your TV. If you have a BNC connector, then go to an electronics store such as Radio Shack , and get a bnc to rca adapter. Take your cable with you and tell them what you are doing. It should not cost more than $5.00 retail.
