    Camera Detectors

I wonder what they do in Iraq? I would assume if a convoy was on a route known to have IEDs then I would imagine they would use FLIR at night to "clear" the area during the night time, and then use the Predator Drone to keep an eye on the area during daylight hours. I imagine they would use an RF jammer to stop them from using cell phones to remote activate an IED. It would be difficult to catch a lens in this environment. They would only hold up the camera the moment before detonation. There would be no way to see the lens in advance. More than likly they are going to be in the sun from the convoy's view. This may not be what UMDRANGER is looking for, but I thought it might be of interest to some since we are on the subject. It would be interesting if anybody went through one of these anti IED military courses recently that could talk about some of the ways of prevention. I would be interested in what they are doing in Iraq to combat these attacks.

    Free google wifi as mesh?

For the cable/sat industry they have a part that is flat so that you can run cable under a window sash, I wonder if they have one for CAT 5? This would be great under the seat.
  3. On the 60GB HD's price, I will take $1000.00 off of that price!!!!!!! I was hoping that was just a typo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Camera Detectors

So someone is spying on the Quartermaster? What are you storing? Welfare/moral send Xbox 360's? I say look dead in the camera's lens, raise your arm and give them the one digit salute! How far does a laser pointer shoot? I would imagine you can make your own lens finder using these. If any thing they will stop looking through the lens after they have been blinded in the eye, or it will disrupt the video.

    Camera Detectors

If I felt I was being watched, I would discreetly move in to the sun and check "down wind" from the sun. On a bright day I would hope to catch the reflection off the lens. If in advance of this situation you would carry something that fits your personality, and your established life style. I would carry a backpack, or a gym bag. In the pack/bag I would have a change of clothes such as baggy pants/shirt, and a baseball cap. In a busy area with lots of people I would then step out of sight (bathroom, back alley, or a shop or store) and I would change my clothes real quick and make my way to a different direction. while he/she is waiting for me to come back in to view I am already gone. I would then divert my way around back to where I think they may be hiding in a tree line or an SUV. In advance is it possible to have someone with your body build, and shape and to have them where the same clothes, and you meet up at a spot where you change and he walks on as a decoy? If you cannot carry a pack/bag wear a reversible jacket, and put a cap in your pocket, then hide, and flip the jacket and pop on the cap, and walk a different stride. If you could shine something at 600M to find a lens then you will have given yourself away. They are at 600M to be discreet. Do you really want them to know that you blew their cover?

    Camera Detectors

Camera man? Would this be someone holding a camcorder? Would this individual be out in the "open" on hidden? I new you knew the options for hiding cameras, but I was throwing in the whole kitchen sink for others who may read this post. Hope you did not think I was talking "down" to you. I have read alot of your posts and they show a very sophisticated understanding of CCTV. So I was pretty much preaching to the choir wasn't I!!!!!

    Vertical White Line

I have monitors sitting out once in a blue moon and I scare the techs by hiding near by and making sssssssssssssssssssss noises making them think that they broke the tube and the vac is leaking out. One of the techs got even one day by sneaking up behing a rack, he lit a piece of cardboard, fanned the flame out, and let the "smoke" waif out. I just happen to power up the rack for the first time, and I smelled smoke, and I about broke my legs trying to shut off the power. I was a little miffed, but that was the best I have ever been "had". Did anyone catch my faux pax? The vac was leaking out?

    Camera Detectors

Not very far for the cheapos that are advertised on the internet in the $100.00 range. They are very effective up close to find pinhole cameras. Great to check offices for pencil sharpener, computer speaker, clock, exit sign, PIR (burglar motion detector), key board ect. Bedrooms: AM/FM clock radios, wall clocks, lamps, shelftop clocks, teddy bears, book binders, cell phones (non working), pagers (same), calculators (same) ect. In commercial environments most cameras are exposed, for vandal or IR reasons, but not always the case. I hide cameras in "rock speakers", dog houses, fake pump "dog houses" with pvc pointed in to the ground going no where, bird houses, bird feeders, diversion safes (cans of hollow hair spray, ajax, gunk). If I can buy an oversized light fixture with lots of hollow spots, I will cut a hole and mount the camera inside of the housing. You can have artisans make copper outdoor lights in the shape of flowers but have one as a camera! They are designed to pick up the curvature of the glass lens. Have you ever seen those clocks under a glass dome? If you shine a light at the curved top the light always shines right back at you. This is how the detectors work. These will not find cameras hidden behind trick mirrors, or behind fiber optic. You can also carry a bug detector. They look for RF energy. They are looking for transmitters. You can use the bug detector to find wireless cameras that are hidden in monkeys, teddy bears, AM/FM clock radio ect! Pros will use "off" freqs so that they are not easly spotted with tech's wireless monitor that can tune in 800 900 1.2 2.4 5.8 freqs and channels. In residential houses the master bedroom is the most likely place to find cameras. You mostly find microphones more so than cameras. If you are looking for hidden cameras, start at the alarm keypad, and remove it from the wall to see if the power has been tapped. Remove wall socket plates to see if electronic parts have been "stuffed" in behind a recepticle to power a camera. You can power a camera remotly through the t.v. cable as well.

    Give me a break!

I look forward to the day I can plug in my cameras, alarm panel, and electronic access in to the internet, and be able to control all of the above, and perform checks and maintenance, or make changes as needed! Now I want everything to comunicate with each other! Access a door, bam, gotcha on cams, if you are not authorized, bam alarm signal, bam, laser range finder finds you, bam, laser fires! IP controlled lasers? Great! Now anyone with a 10 in one tool can be an installer! We need a license program similiar to electricians. Journeyman CCTV, MasterCCTV.

    Is this a camera?

There is more to this story than what is publicly known, but I'll just stick to the public domain. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/InsideWalMartsThreatResearchOperation.aspx?f=25&MSPPError=-2147197912 This guy is a scapegoat, and WM is acting "shocked and betrayed". They are firing people left, and right, and putting out warnings to everyone else. After this "firestorm" blows over they will reactivate, and continue as usual. It makes for interesting reading!!!!!! Anyone heard of HP's "little problem"?
  14. I thought you would push record on the VCR when you started the car. I would say buy a 9 hour tape. I would buy seven tapes and mark them sun/mon/tue/......ect/sat. Do not forget to mark the tapes BE KIND REWIND! I would def recommend a dvr! No rewind! I think you pretty much got in the bag. Good Luck! Keep me posted! I want to see how it turns out!

Hey Whizkid! Is this indoor, or outdoor? Is this a restaraunt, bar, or night club? If this is indoor and it has to be on the cheap I might suggest the Eclipse ECL 374.

    Whats wrong with this video?

Kao! You have me stumped! You have done everything to trouble shoot this problem that I would have you do. I thought for sure the wire across the ground would isolate this problem! The fact that you have changed cameras, lens, and wiring! You checked the voltage, and I wondered if you changed the power wire to a different "channel" on the power supply? This will sound really dumb, but I would suggest getting an extension cord, and plugging in to a different wall plug, and plugging the DVR in to this. I wondered if it was possible to have a bad plug, or a ground issue? I probably will get flamed for that idea but you have some serious GREMLINS! Take a compass and set it near the camera location and video tape it. I want to see the video with the needle just spinning around!
  17. I was trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill! Lets go the other way......... Lets set up a 12 volt to 120 volt inverter. Lets plug a VCR in to this with a quad multiplexor. Plug in some mini cameras in to the quad. You all ready have a 12 volt power supply. How does this sound? Maybe add a tie, or a button cam, or a hat camera w/ microphone. Plug in the wireless receiver in to the quad. When you get out of the vehicle you have video and audio that follows. You will have night time video failures when trying to do this on a limited budget. When you get pulled over try to go to a gas station, or a parking lot that is well lit. This does not solve the lighting problem, but it will help some. Note to others who may read this. When you get pulled over at night turn on your blinkers if you are going to drive a "bit" to pull off the side of the road, or to turn off a side street, or to get to a parking lot. This will let the police officer know that you have acknowledged him. When you come to a stop turn on your interior lights, and place your hands in plain sight. You will make a cops night if you do this. Those who say this will not help.......OH BOY! You got real problems. Maybe this will calm a police officer down a bit.

Hey guys! I just got my "kit" in and IT WORKS GREAT! This is going to revolutionize the industry! It didn't cost me a dime! The only problem I had was getting my cat 5 up in to the ceiling, running it through the attic and to my computer. Other than that no problems! Ha! Ha!
  19. Hey Jabaroon, Did you get your system up and running?

    i'm new friend

    Hello! Welcome Aboard!
  21. Is this a basic system? Do you plan on having gps overlaid on the video? On the high end side, you can have the dvr transfer the video when you get back to the garage using transmitters. I did not know if this is for a personal vehicle, commercial vehicle, or a goverment vehicle. How do you plan on getting the video off of the vehicle, transfer to vcr tape, built in cd burner? What gauge wire are you running to the battery? What kind of fuse box will you install? I recommend a full wave bridge rectifier from the battery to the DVR. I am not familiar with the vehicle, but sometimes when the cars stops, the alternator stops, and the collapsing magnetic field "may" create a reverse current. It is momentary but it may be a large "spike". Are you running a large sound system? I would recommend a large capacitor to even out the power to the DVR. Have you ever seen dashboard lights flicker with the bass? Do not use any lens smaller than a 6mm for the dashboard if you are using minicameras. Too many questions? Sorry! Just wanted to cover all of the bases.

    Is this a camera?

Lolo Wolf, how does this systme work? How does it work compared to the photos posted? I haved asked to speak to someone in loss prevention, and I was told they do not have any security. In the Customer Service area at a WM in Palm Bay Fl you would be suprised to see the shape of the various cameras in place. The tv show a quad with two videos out. Another camera (vandal dome) was installed after the fact and you can see that it is wired to the tv and no longer shows the quad screen. I had to laugh because the video cable magically pops out of the tile's edge and plugs into the composite plug on the front of the t.v. Looking at the whole room it is rather tacky looking. At first I thought this was a stand by attempt until they could get more equipment installed. I guess notany time soon. P.S. Based on some of the stories that have been in the news this LP is very much on their toes. In florida there is a new crime that has popped up and has even shocked me! I wont mention it publicly but it is frightning, (not to the public but of concern to security personal).

    Is this a camera?

I am more curious about the construction of the frame. At first I did not believe it to be a camera based on the observation of the picture. I do not believe the object is deep enough for a camera. For a camera I thought the angle was rather off. Unless there is an object that draws your attention in this direction then you will only get a side shot of a face. Would you not prefer to get a "head on shot". Am I miss led, or is this at less of an angle then I am assuming? If there is a camera then that would mean the camera is in the frame of the door way. I would be looking for the travel path of the wiring out of this door frame. This would be installed at the time of construction. I could not see them using the wire that would have been used for a detector then converting the wire to receive power and send video. If this is an retrofit, I would assume you would find wiring to the frame somewhere, then snaking it to this position. How did they mount the camera in the frame? Is there enough room for a camera in this corner? I ask, is this object warm? I did not know if this camera puts out heat or not? I am curious to know if LP approached you after taking close ups, or did you use a telephoto lens?
  25. I would could a video splitter. I could find a splitter and post it here so you can see if this is something you can use. Camera #1 Input to video splitter. Output A to DVR, Output B to Quad Camera #2 Input to video splitter. Output A to DVR, Output B to Quad ECT. ECT. Is this a viable option?
