    Camera Video on 2 TVs

P.S. do not use Radio Shack splitters! They are not designed for high def freqs. If you do, look at the mhz on the splitter. Ask the employee if you are not sure. Pay good money for good splitters, do not use cheap no matter what you do. MY service call is $100 an hour. I will be more than glad to fix it for you! Do it right the first time!

    Camera Video on 2 TVs

In the old days I did a lot of modulators, but I have not done this at lately since they started making t.v.s with multi inputs. With smart remotes it easy to push the camera icon and let the remote go through a series of commands. Step one is t.v. ON? Turn on t.v. if off, go to input #X (for camera view). Using xantech products I send the I.R. commands back to the DVR (order a DVR with a remote control). With the smart remote programmed with the DVR commands, I can press button #1 to go to camera 1 or I can press multi view button to bring up crosshatch with multiple camera views. Out of the blue, I had a customer who asked to modulate his cameras for me. He said he only needed it for the tv in the kitchen. I could not run a wire (coax) to the kitchen. I modulated 3 cameras on to three channels of brighthouse. The t.v. in the kitchen looked beautiful! In the house he had two t.v.s with no cable boxes. Just reg analog signal plugged in to the f connector on the back (screw on terminal). He had two t.v.s using regular cable boxes giving him the basic digital channels. He had one t.v. that ran a high definition (HD) cable box. I new it was going to happen because I had not isolated the digital cables that were plugged in to the brighthouse amplifier multiple output device. That customer blew a fuse. "what happen to my HD T.V.!!!!!!!!!!!! BLAH! BLAH! SCREAM! SCREAM! RANT! RANT! RAVE! RAVE! HA! HA! I told him just to hold on I will have it back up in a second. The customer did not know that I had already toned all the cable wires and I new what wires went where. When I went out to the van to get a device that puts one signal in and splits the signal out for multiple t.v.s, and I had to get another amplifier. What I did is I split the incoming cable signal. One going directly to his computer modem, one going to the new path for the H.D. signal, and one going to the analog path. For the H.D. path I used the original Brighthouse amp/splitter. If any problems down the road they cannot blame me or the parts that I use. Even when you use the best parts money can buy the cable companies will blame any piece of equipment that is not theirs that is attached to their cable system. You will find most first responders may be entry level people and are completely thrown when they see extra equiment and travel paths that they cannot comprehend. They also tend to get lost in those big boxes that have all of the systems in them, such as cable, telephone, computer networking, front door answer, and front gate telephone adapter, and such toys. They take one look at the clover leaf of coax cable and start disconecting till they have the basic circuit connected then they finally come to the same conclusion that I gave them that such, and such part is bad and needs to be replaced. I then get a call from a customer that the cameras are not working and when I show up the cable tech did not hook everything back, just left it hanging there, or they did a poor attemt to put it back together. Hey at least he tried. I hope he learned a new trick about cable stuff. For the analog path there is a device that you have to put on the cable feed going to the splitter it is called a low pass filter. This takes out all of the higher channels (freqs) and passes the lower channels (freqs). Now you have a feed coming from you multi channel modulator and you have your cable feed. Put the modulator cable to an amplifier and then combine the two signals. Here is where it gets tricky if it does not work, it may be that you have to balance the two signals. If one is stronger than the other you will have beautiful camera video, but the cable looks bad, or vice versa the cable looks good, and the cameras will look fuzzy or grainy. When I first tested my modulation it crashed all of the digital, and HD boxes. Some of the channel would work (very few) or it would just lock up and freeze. I ran seperate coax to the digital cable box t.v. and they just switch the input (source) button to watch the cameras. Now the question is how would I modulate so that I had cameras on all of the t.v.s! Introduction

    Hello!
  6. Does anyone hate bad sales people? Does anyone have any horror stories resulting from a bad site survey? Like showing up for a single story house install and there sits a two story house and the "plan" goes south real quick? How about the sales guy who says for a fact it has an attic good enough to walk through and you show up to a flat roof? How about the sales guy who tells the customer, "no problem the tech can run the wire anywhere in you want and the building design says other wise! How about the sales guy that says to the tech all you need is a six foot cable to hook up the network when in fact the modem is on the opposite side of the house? How about the sales guy who forgets to explain to the customer that they need to call an electician to install an outlet in the closet? How about the sales guy who starts talking technical to the customer and make all kinds of product recommendations and paints himself in to a corner? ??????

    Remote monitoring and control

We probably will need more information. Is the guard shack enclosed with environmental control. In florida we need some serious AC!! The reason I ask is I would probably see if I could put the DVRs or ONE large multi channel DVR in the Guard shack. When it detects motion he can look at the screen. Does this guard have to write down license plates as they drive thru (guests), and does he have to fill out a guest slip for them to post on the window? Will these activities distract him from watching the video monitor? If it is an open style "shack" this is probably out of the question. I assume you have power at the shack. Where would the various DVRs be placed? Front office? Day room, Pool clubhouse? Maitenance shack? What is the budget of this system. I would imagine a wireless system is out of the question. Do you need a license plate recognition system? What kind of threats do you have? Do you have a side gate where cars crash in to it all of the time because they are impatient? Do you have teenagers getting in to things that they should not? Are people jumping over a chain link fence destroying the fence in the process? Why are they jumping over the fence? Is there a donut shop, or a convenience store on the other side and people do not want to walk all the way around to get to it? Do you have a really nice neighborhood but it is slowly being taken over by renters? I can ask more if you are not bored.

    Problem With Honeywell DVMS-1600

Good Luck CoolDude! For the other people out there, check your fans, vents, and heatsinks and make sure they are not blocked and overheating the componets. OK! OK! Everyone know this! I sorry for being reduntant. Just wanted to get this out to the Newbies.
  10. Jisaacmagee, I can relate to that! On a new subcontract for a company, the first issue was to resolve a customer complaint. This lady was going off! She was 55 - 60 years of age and she lived in one of those 55+ trailer parks. She had a really nice trailer. Even I was impressed! She had this double wide custom fitted with the best! I had to agree with her about the bad video. Even I had to say to myself what the hay is up with the wiring? Her other complaint was that she could not see at night with the two cameras. Walking around the trailer I saw B/W bullet cameras. I recognized the brand and model. Great camera for entry level pricing. No IR though! I told her I would swap out the cameras for IR cameras. The company was trying everything they could to make her happy. She had a multiplexor and they let her borrow a 4 channel DVR to help her out. She had an exboyfriend who would drive by her trailer everyday. He threaten to kill her and he had done various things aroung the trailer. Since the police dept did not witness the events they could not do anything. This woman was petrified!. The complaints got worse and worse until it just became impossible!. I rewired her trailer with new R59 16/2. I did an autopsy on the old wiring and connectors and could not find anything. The connection was not up to my standards but it was doable. The R59 was good copper so go figure. Maybe the ex pressed a needle through the coax somewhere along the line??? I met her new boyfriend right after I had rewired the trailer, and he was doing his best to mediate between her and us. The problems were impossible now. She cannot read his license plate with the cameras, this... and that... blah blah blah (4mm 30feet IR bullet entry level) and she wants her money back and she want this system out today!!!!!!!! Out comes the green pea soup with the head spinning around with the deep devil's voice!!! Looking back at it now we get a good laugh talking about this customer, but now it dawns on me. She had a new boyfriend and he must of kept the old one at bay. What does she need with a video surveillance system now??? Since the company would not give her the money back she disputed it (you business owners now what I mean). Company lost and had to pay out another$400 for mediation costs! That floored me. They documented everything and showed where she changed paper work and changed dates and turned them in to the dispution. Live and Learn
  11. Everything will be honky dory until something goes wrong! I know, I know, I will get the blame! When it cost the owner money, or custome wants a full refund then he will be on the spot. Hey don't get me wrong we all have to learn, and I can cover anything thrown at me. It is when I show the guy, or forwarn about an issue, or give him the "please be a advised" and he IGNORES the advise, or ignores the education, or ignores the forwarning. Today was funny. I am to do a little bar with seven cameras and a 9 ch DVR, (jpeg, 250GB, network). The salesman failed to mention that two cameras were actually going next door into another business (through a fire wall), and the customer was never informed in regards to upgrading from a business class to a commercial accout with a static IP included. Customer was cool about calling the cable company and having a new modem brought out 4 days later. The sales guy quoted so many hours and the bar owner wanted it done before noon time before opening time. OK lets sprint! It was not a time problem, but on a future installation I forsee KAOS! Really I not venting. I thought these issues would be an education to someone starting their own business, or for them to take these hints before they get out in front of their very first customer!
  12. I do subcontracting installs for another company. The owner hired his "best buddy" to help out with the business.

    Free google wifi as mesh?

Ha! Ha! Ha! I have seen this before! This is the first time I have seen it with google! If they are promoting it then it must work pretty good! I have a question. How do I prevent a neighbor from tapping in to my line via their "Tisp" access point? Is this password protected? Has anyone used it yet? I have a home owners association that could use this! They have no ip connection. What are the bandwith issues? Does anyone know a hacker that can get me Tisp modem in case that enroll the millionth customer and start charging a fee?

    access control setup

Fail safe! I had a heart attack when I was at my personal storage unit to place plastic over my personal items and I found out that the gates were unlocked and wide open, and the doors were wide open to the building. A hurricane was coming and I wanted to protect my stuff in case the roof got peeled back slightly allowing rain to come in. I was angry that my stuff was available for any one with a bolt cutter to come in. I have sinced move all of my personal stuff elsewhere! Fail Secure. When the power goes out this locks you out! This would be good for a liquer storage room at a bar. You can alway run a wire to a secret spot and hook up a gel battery to activate and open the door.

    access control setup

I did my first install not to long ago myself. I was in the same boat as you. Luckly my bid was not a high end install or very sophisticated. They wanted two doors covered with some cameras. P A N I C T I M E! I ordered the parts from ECLIPSE and set everything up on my bench and played around with it and it went like clock work during the install. I cannot speak for a high end install but for a simple one it is not hard at all. I used the ACC-950. It is an oudoor reader. I chose this in case they moved the indoor units and placed it outside to cover the front door. This gave me this flexibility for future up grades. The hardest part I had was programing 25 cards to the reader. With tech support I was able to figure it out, and then I programmed the second unit with the 25 cards and I was good to go. I used the maglocks on purpose. This way I was not digging in to the frame and also attaching a strike. I am not a locksmith and I do not have much experience in hanging doors or to try to correct doors that do not pull themselves closed. I have a power supply that ran my cameras and my maglocks and my readers. ( I know, I know from an electronics point it may be better to have some isolation, but this is a non threat situation. If I put a rectifier and a cap at the reader would this make you happy? What if the rectifier blows, the cap blows, the wall catches fire, the building burns down to the ground, I pay out my deductable and they build a new building and all of the employees are out of work for a year)!!! Any ways I have a battery back up 12 volt power supply. I have a wire going out to two cameras, and two wires going out to two maglocks, and I have two wires going out to to readers. The readers are installed right at the door. Door one was easy. It was a hollow wall with no insulation. The wire going to the maglock from the reader was an easy pull. The second door was on a concrete (note interior) wall. The wiring was ran on the wall on the inside of the room. The secure side. I removed the trim and hid the wire here. I did not need to but I ran a wire from the farthest reader to the closet reader and they I left a 100 foot "roll" of wire up in the false ceiling in case they want to hook it up to a computer with some software. After the fact I wish I had used 1200 maglocks instead of the 300lb maglocks. The one door had issues and did not pull it self close (note latch itself). I squirted wd 40, I took a hammer a hit the top of the door where it friction rubbed with the door jam. The hammer pushed in the wood a little bit allowing for some clearance. The in house maitenance was going to resolve this issue, and it was not my responsibility. I can now do install cheaper than my competitors. Most do not want to do 1, 2, or 3 door installs anyways. I will do them!!!!!!!!!

Where do you buy CCTV Products?

I have never used this camera. I cannot speak for or against this camera. I am more of the type to order a camera for a bid project and test it in the environment (or simulate the environment) and what you see is what you get. I use pretty much the same cameras over and over and for a bid project I allready know what camera I am going to use. Using the price that is shown in the Eclipse catalog, I order a camera priced very similar from a different provider. This camera rocks! It has 4-9mm vari focal, 50 foot IR, vandel resistant and the night time video using IR is good. Remember a majority of my clients are in the ENTRTY LEVEL price range, and I am not doing HIGH END INSTALLS. If I am doing high end installs I use the best of the best. I want my products rated at 100% and I want the product installed and working at 50% of its rated capacity. Now I know I have some "headroom" to play with. My luck the customer always trys to move the camera and make it do what it is not designed to do. I am sorry that I cant help you more. PM me and I tell you the camera and the price and where to get from.
