  1. There are jammers for sell outside of the U.S. Do not get caught with one. These are highly illegal! You can get in trouble in many different ways. Someone has paid for the rights to use these freqs (such as cell phone providers etc.) and you can be prosecuted for theft of service. Most "jammers" on the market kill a wide spectrum of freqs. Fire one up in a downtown business district and you will kill wireless access, cell phones, pagers, comercial phone wireless headphones, wireless cameras, as well as other devices. If you fear an "Attack" you can try to overcome this by using higher wattages rather then using a wattage that is just bearly getting your signal to it end point. Using poles, or towers or mounting antennas on the highest part of the building can help get you above "street" level attacks. If you plan on setting up a lot of wireless projects you can get info from the FCC on all of the listed transmitters in you local area. Everyone is aware of radio stations, tv stations, and other transmitters but sometimes people are not aware that commercial accounts have transmitters such as plumbers, electricians, school bus districts, and no one thinks about all of the fast food drive thrus. When you see one of these freq lists you will be very suprised how many listed transmitters there are within a 5 mile radius! If you attack one of my systems I have radio direction finding and can triangle you in less than 5 seconds. Video is emailed to all law enforcement agencies involved and they are in turn emailed to the responding squad car. I hope you can run very fast! Dont forget to bring a disguies change!

    "Line of sight" question

I usually get a service call from the DIY ers who need us to come in and fix their southern engineering. I agree with everyone on these posts. The package say 300 feet. I usually use this analogy with these customers. If we use a flashlight with 2 AAA batteries and we are standing on a football field can we see the opposite goal post in the complete darkness? They say no. I then ask, if we move closer can we see it? They say yes. Now I want to see the color of the goal post in good detail what should we do? They say "move closer". Great! Now they get the idea! There was a service call some time back that I could not figure over the phone. As she described it the system should have worked! I arrived at her house and started to trouble shoot her husbands installation and I finally figured it out. The receiver was in the master bedroom and the camera was in the garage. In her master bath she had wrap around mirrors! The silver lining that creates the mirror was blocking the signal! Moving the camera in to the laundry pass through allowed the system to work!
  3. How do you all feel about those 24V ac to 12V dc converters? I have a customer who has a 24 volt system and he has to reactivate a 12 volt camera. I debated using a wall wart at the power box end or using the coverter at the camera end. I truley don't think it matters, but I wanted to see what you all think.

Now I'm ready to pick my DVR for 2-4 cameras

I have not used the Mace version, but I have used a "sister" camera with the same specs. I super Highly recommend this camera! It works great!

    grainy picture with IR Cameras

Hello everyone! I doubt you will find a power problem with this bar project. For the DIY who reads this post I would suggest taking a wall transformer and an extension cord and plug directly in to the camera, this should trouble shoot any power problems. The problem as I see it is with the cameras IR throw. The maximum distance is rated at something aroung 30 - 35 feet. I would suggest to the DIY to throw the IR double the distance compared to the distance of the object or area to be viewed. I assume things at 10 feet look really good in this video. The other question is how high is the camera mounted? The higher the camera the less distance you will see. I would test another camera that can throw the IR farther. You could try using an Illuminator ( or another IR camera) to side light the area. Good luck!
